According to diagnostics, we’ve printed 3786 pages over about 5 years! So HP’s 300 page monthly plan is probably a bit ott for us!

Probably need colour more than half the time as MrsP prints teaching resources out. Kodak have left the business, apparently.

Hmmm…will check what the cheapest ink deal HP will do. Probably not talking about much printing at all….

I see two slightly different, but connected, issues here.

The first is that she can and should pay her way….if her education is complete, then you’re not doing her any favours by sheltering her from the real world and the money it costs to have a decent standard of living.

The second is that you see her living what you consider to be an unrealistic, unsustainable or otherwise disapprovable lifestyle. I may be misinterpreting, but I guess you may think that she is wasting her time and opportunities?

Issue 1 – fair enough. Issue 2 is less yours to judge and will certainly cause grief if you get overtly involved too deeply. In my book, you can probably positively influence both by making her pay her way. If you don’t actually NEED the money, you can give it back as a lump sum at a time of your choosing…wedding, house purchase etc. whether she knows this is your intention is up to you – could go either way in terms of influencing her life choices.

King….never driven any of my suggestions or yours, but had discounted anything x35i on the grounds of far too easy to go far too fast and turbo restricting engine noise….tell me I’m wrong?!

If I got wind that the seller needed to sell, I absolutely would do this, I’m afraid.

Hand made cards from my 8,5 and 2 year olds, some ale, an OS map and a Vertebrate guide to the North Dales. Spent the day in Whitby. Happy with that!

It would have been earlier but I had a headache and couldn’t be arsed. Now I’ve had a fry up, a walk and some coffee I feel able to have a reasoned go.

Wow…..must have a go at that….will get up in the morning, find something to take offence at then plan my other daily activities around the “reasoned go” I’m going to rev myself up for!

Ooh, didn’t know these existed. It now appears that I have wasted many bits of weekends digging out stumps!

Thinking on, Is there any kind of disc I could use in my 9″ angle grinder to do a similar job with shrub-type stumps?

Find a back street garage with some friendly grease monkeys, a dirty bog next to the tea making area and lots of personal recommendations. They will understand the cost / benefit ratio of keeping a 16 year old jap hatch on the road for another year or two (or longer, if you tell them).

Then they’ll fit the right parts quicker and better than you could do yourself, dealing with any rusty/seized fixings along the way. You won’t be sponsoring fancy waiting rooms and dolly bird receptionists…..win all round!

    +1 interested in this.

Got a gym at work. I want to get stronger rather than bulkier. I’ve been adapting the 5*5 program for weights machines, but now need to learn decent form for free weights.

Just out of interest, what’s the deal with people who have jobs like doctors, nurses, professional drivers etc where being alert (and not suffering from low blood sugar) is a necessity

I saw one of those Police Interceptors type progs when the officer featured was fasting and had to give foot chase to some crims. Low blood sugar caused him to go all pale and puky after a few seconds. Not sure fasting in that role was the best idea….he could have put a colleagues or member of the public’s life in danger by not being able to react.

V8 – almost but not completely true. My old man was asystolic for over an hour and a half before being declared dead. Major organ donation was ruled out by this time, but they were still able to take corneas, femurs and skin. It was a small help to us to know we’d been able to help someone.

I would make the case that it is as much your loved ones’ decision as yours. Based on the fact that you won’t know much about it, if they need to feel that they have laid you to rest “properly” instead of leaving your earthly remains on a medical school slab being hacked about, they should have that chance.

Donation is a different matter entirely and I can’t think of a rational reason not to. It was one of the first questions I asked after being told my Dad couldn’t be resuscitated and the rest of my family backed me up without hesitation.

Death, it’s a strange thing. Difficult to know how you or anyone else will feel until you actually get there.

Not a fan of cats tbh….obviously some folk line em but I find them a bit self-serving and of course they’re pretty destructive to wildlife and neighbours gardens.

    LOL at “repurposing” a pig!

Just an update….my boy is fine – been to dentists to have his cut gums looked at. Need to keep an eye on him for potential nerve damage but chances are he’s going to be fine. Reported the incident following morning – all at letting agents upset and concerned by the incident. Co-owner of agents came round in person with pressies for the wee man.

Landlord came round with his joiner same day and checked and put new fixings into all other units. He managed to antagonise my Mrs slightly by asking her if the boy has been swinging on the cupboard door. To be honest it was the first question I asked, but not sure I would have done in his position. After all, with the right fixings, I should have been able to swing off it…

The way I see it, if I bought a house, I wouldn’t have all the kitchen units off the wall to check the fixings. If I paid a kitchen fitter, I wouldn’t stand over them to see what fixings they were using. So even though we could no doubt take the landlords insurance for a couple of grand, it doesn’t seem fair to do so when we’re not out of pocket.

Not sure I’d fancy being a landlord though…..

Jeez. I would be speaking to a lawyer straight away

Won’t be doing that – landlord has been spot on so far. The property was fully refurbed before we moved in. He used the same contractors for most of the work and the bits you can see are of a high standard I.e. Kitchen, downstairs loo, main bathroom and en-suite all brand new and immaculate. They’ve obviously let themselves down a lot here but I don’t blame the landlord for trusting them on the basis of everything else.

No ethical point in sue-ing as we haven’t lost anything. I’d rather have the goodwill in the bank come return of deposit time.

Thanks for the feedback on the fixings though.

Some Rockshox (don’t know if reba’s included) can leak oil from the damping chamber into the lowers, causing the dirk to hydro lock midway through the travel. Cured by changing the seal on the rebound piston. You can buy kits on eBay for just this purpose.

Yep, I helped with beavers for a year or two. There’s an amazing amount of support within the movement, and it’s a fantastic thing for both kids and adults to do.

As far as other adults go, there are do-ers and there are talkers. Despite what you may think, both sets are important but you might not feel that way from time to time. Especially when bring told you’ve done something “wrong” by someone who could quite easily have helped you proactively. No different from most workplaces in that respect though.

Do it, you won’t regret it. It makes you a better human being and you get see your own and others little ones thrive as part of something much much bigger than school or sports teams.

The theory – boiling water is not the same as sterilising if. The air in your kitchen isn’t sterile either. The formula powder isn’t sterile, so basically, from the moment you make up the formula, it is a breeding ground for the bugs that will undoubtedly be present in it. At the kind of Luke-warmy temps that a bottle will cycle through as it is cooled down and then reheated, you could very well be incubating something nasty. NHS, baby formula manufacturers and midwives have to assume the worst case hygiene scenario based on a small number of documented incidents and advise you to make fresh every time.

In practice – babies become more robust very very quickly. Cooling batches of water to store in bottles in the fridge is fairly low-risk. You can buy a little gadget to keep 3 pre-dispensed quantities of powder to hand. The downside of this is that the powder doesn’t disperse as well in cold water and there is a small theoretical risk that not putting the powder into 60degree water misses the chance to kill the bugs that may be in it. Once our 3 boys were a few weeks old, we tended to assume the middle ground and make up bottles in 2s or 3s for the night shift. Never a full days worth.

I don’t get it, just looks like another boring car that’s not very handy for bikes, yet you put a link to it under the title “Best bike carrying car EVER!”.

    Please explain.

    In fact, I don’t care.

You do though, don’t you? You’d flippin love an argument on the Internet at 8 o’clock on Sunday morning. Well I’m not going to give one to you. I respect your right to claim not to understand something that I thought looked cool. Enjoy your day.
