    are you overweight?

Def think about intermittent fasting / 5:2 diet if so. Maybe do it anyway if not as you will still benefit metabolically.

If I go for a 2mm gap as per recommendations then the outer plate catches the chainring teeth when shifting down. I have 4-5mm gap on mine.
If your outer cage plate is 2mm higher than the top of your big ring how can it catch it when shifting down ?

Can’t remember without having it in front of me. Seem to recall that the “downward” component of the mech swing catches the teeth before it has moved in enough.

Following up on my previous post – it sounds like he / you definitely have plenty of issues. Maybe look into some counselling for at least on of you. If it’s him (sounds like it might be), then the board and lodgings can be used as a bit of leverage if needs be….

A bit of tough love is called for…..if you’re bankrolling his current lifestyle then you’re part of the problem. He may well blame you and your Mrs for his state of mind, but he needs to start taking responsibility for himself.

Put your own feelings of inadequacy or guilt to one side and give him a wake-up call. As others have said, charge half-realistic rent, attach conditions to any non-vital support you give him. He may f-off somewhere else for a night or two but let him.

Who else apart from a parent would put up with it. Don’t be threatened by any hold his mates dad may have over him – he won’t put up with his style being cramped by an extra Kevin the Teenager for too long….

I’ve got an Xgen which seems to have a much higher mounting point than equivalent shimano mechs.

Looking back on my life when I had fewer ties, I kind of wish I’d done this or something like it. Not necessarily from being some kind of army-mad weapons fantasist, but just a way to broaden horizons, keep fit and learn transferable skills.

    No chance these days, though!

Rickos – is that true?! Rented a flat for a couple of years with electric under laminate and one of the simple pleasures was sticking your feet under the rug on a morning!

+1 for liquid sealant. Might not endear you to your next tyre fitter, though!

you can, but my personal experience is that Avid brakes are VERY sensitive to trapped air. most of the in-depth official bleeding method centres around deaerating the new fluid and that already in the system. you pays your money and you takes yer choice….

Pharmacist. Hugely in demand therefore pays well, civilised hours and a lot more varied a job than standing behind the counter of a retail pharmacy.

It wasn’t until I failed entrance to med school, studied Biochem and worked in the pharma industry for 6 years that I realised there was such a thing as an industrial pharmacist…..

Agreed. Seeing as we shouldn’t really be on there at all, there’s no point ploughing it up at the moment. As Simon said, roll on the sub-zero temps though…!

Not a big fan of judgemental posts on here, but you need to take responsibility for this. Get the dogs trained asap. Otherwise you may want to consider what you will do when it’s someone’s cat, small dog, child etc. Get professional help.

OR a Mazda 6 2.3 or 2.5. The latter are SERIOUSLY cheap for the size of car and age.

Just a thought, may not be up your street at all….but have you looked at Honda Accord 2.4iVTEC Type S Tourer?

Seriously bulletproof, nice places to sit, prob better on fuel than a 6 cylinder but still smooth and sound nice thanks to balancer shafts.

    It’s what I’d buy if I needed a “fuel-no-object” fast, cheap wagon…

ah, I was going to ask if you’d considered the accord tourer or FRV if you don’t need 4WD. I guess neither will be as tall inside, anyway….

driven recent examples of both as holiday hire cars. Reason being, the Doblo broke down and was replaced with a Berlingo! Citroen much nicer fit and finish. Engine more tractable, smoother. Surprisingly good handling.

    Don’t know about towing, though.

Ask them to hit those who failed to deliver rather than those who did.
    That was them IMHO

So are you bothered about upsetting an employer who makes you both look stupid and loses you money?

That’s it, although the ‘contract’ is a few emails which complicates things a bit.

    lesson in there, IMHO

not being smug, just have life experience of making life hard for myself with “wooly” financial arrangements.

oh – should also mention that the boot will take a medium hardtail frame SIDEWAYS. I don’t even both taking out the pram, kids bikes etc. Just thrown a blanket over the lot and the bike on top. Love it!

05 reg diesel tourer here. Taken it from 60,000 to 90,000 in 18 months. No faults at all, just servicing, brakes and tyres.

Plenty quick enough for a big load carrier / family car. Handling is tidy enough but nowhere near as “keen” as say a Ford or Mazda. I don’t really mind this as the whole persona of the car is pretty relaxed (by that I don’t mean boring).

It’s just really satisfying to drive quickly and smoothly and really satisfying to own. I’d only really replace it with another – prob a post-facelift with 6 shorter gears instead of 5 really long ones. Might go for the larger wheels too, to sharpen it up a bit.

Wouldn’t put much money on it but I would have thought the distances involved between a thunder cloud and the ground would make the whole “in a field half a mile from the nearest really tall thing” pretty irrelevant….

Keppy – can’t find a msg address in your profile. If you have any pics or details, could you drop them on an email to (no spaces) chris pee uk @t yah00 c0 uk.

Happy to collect from Hfx and save you the hassle of eBay if it’s in decent nick and the right price.
