    Cheers Wrighty and Total.

Next question…..do I go to gas showroom and get the whole installation package from them, or do I mail order the fire and find a Gas Safe fitter in yellow pages? Keighley area, if anyone local wants the job?!

I remember visiting the Shire Horse Centre in Devon as a kid. There was a farrier’s demonstration with some old West Country character nailing shoes onto big ‘uns. At one point, the Shire horse started to rest its weight on the farrier’s back as he was bending down. He gave it a great almighty crack on the flanks with a 2 foot long rasp file, It didn’t even flinch, just straightened up a bit!

I guess something like this would need a communal composting loo or something. I can’t imagine you can have too many people living and sh!tting in the woods in your hutting community before it gets unpleasant.

Got one of the original 1.4DSi ones. It has been trouble free for the 10 years it has been in the family.

It is quite amusing to drive round town as it is quite firmly sprung and has a very flexible engine. Great fun for punting around like a little skateboard. Gets a bit wearing on longer trips and bumpy commute though.

Loads of space in the back with seats down. Magic seats are a bit of a waste of time for bikes though.

had a boggo 1.3L micra as a courtesy car for a bit once. it was ace….really throttle-sensitive under hard cornering.

    1. catch up with original witness (presume you have their contact details). Check with them again what they saw and get them onside with you in terms of being an official witness.

    2. catch up with haulage co on Monday and give them a chance to do the right thing.

    3. if not, speak with your own insurers. they’ll want witness details. it may help if you’ve got legal protection if it looks like it is going to get messy.

    4. DO NOT do any naming and shaming until you’ve been through the above. you may prejudice your case.

    5. £1k is a bit steep for a bumper, with or without parking sensor. You won’t help yourself by being a drama queen about it.

Nasty crash and no doubt lots of lessons learned. Thanks for posting the video for our amusement and mutual learning!

There’s some right farkin tossers on here tonight though….post some videos of your own amazing riding and lets all have a good slag of you.

+1 I’m afraid its a disposable society we live in. Wang it in the metal recycling so its not a total catastrophe.

Some people (not me) used cast iron frying pans seasoned with hot oil to make them non stick. Never worked for me with a griddle pad and deffo not dishwasher proof!

Dunelm Mill do some very reasonably priced but decent quality non-stick gear. Or Lakeland.

Our caterer said that every wedding he has ever done has always averaged out at the equivalent of 1 bottle per adult. No matter whether the parties consider themselves to be big or light drinkers.

We split ours between Pimms and canned beers in the garden and wine on the tables for the meal. We bought extra fizz for the toasts and had a pay bar.

    We didn’t have many compaints!

think you’ll struggle on this budget unless you’re going to get your hands oily. have you considered a van? Similarly wipe-clean cabin and rugged load area.

Yes, you should have joined. My employer pays for it for all staff. A surprisingly high number opt out because they don’t want the tax liability.

Those with it who have needed to use it have been seen almost as quickly as they can get the hospital.

A number without the cover have developed painful or debilitating conditions and had PLENTY of time to regret their choices.

I apply the general rule for all types on insurance – “only insure what you cannot afford to replace”. I cannot afford to pay my own private medical bills, so I can live with £15/month tax.

IIRC all modern Renaults do well in NCAP tests.
    Passenger compartment looks pretty intact.

Destroyed the bead of my rear tyre about 10 miles from home. phoned Mrs for a lift and started pushing the bike in the right direction. 2 or 3 complete strangers separately pulled over and offered lifts in the space of 20 mins. Nice Yorkshire folk!

never compared with HK, but I’ve seen some cracking deals at Vennal Cameras EBay store. And being UK-based, their delivery is very quick:

    I don’t think it is anti-cyclist at all…

And from a personal point of view, seeing as I don’t try to undertake lorries turning left, I’ve never felt particularly at risk from them. White vans bother me a lot more, TBH

don’t worry too much about spares costs. Honda engine families go on for years and share many parts between models.

    see?!

Parts WILL NOT be an issue!

If you’ve run out of ideas, get it to a trusted / recommended garage. They’ll have it fixed in no time…

all the above +1. There is no room for sentimentality in the property game. Buyer can legally walk away without it costing them a penny right up until exchange of contracts. If she’s mid-divorce I would suspect it almost certainly will not wrap up as quickly as she’s expecting. Estate agents and solicitors will do bugger all to help you out if it gets sticky either.

I can’t imagine she will pay a non-refundable deposit large enough to cover your expenses if you lose the house you want…..

Also, although you could state that a deposit was non-refundable, a wily property lawyer would take all of about 5 minutes to accuse you of non-disclosure of a minor something or other, making the original agreement void.

I know this because my wife’s uncle is one such lawyer who serially makes his wife happy by committing to buy houses, then (when the excitement is over) pulling out at the last minute by citing minor details.

OK – I know a good Honda Indy in W Yorks but thats out of the way for you. To be honest accelerator cable / throttle linkage isn’t a specialist job anyway. your bro or a decent backstreet garage should see you right.

From limited experience – Civics I’ve driven from late 90s had a very light and responsive accelerator. Also our current 53 reg Jazz is light and as responsive as can be expected given what it is. Engine tech very similar between models.

I’d say yours needs a bit of attention. No wanting to put the frighteners on you but its best not ignored as you don’t want it to stick open, do you?

Ha ha – I just had to “log in to post”!

My experience was as a self-conscious 17 year-old Venture Scout spending the night camping next to Red Tarn at the summit of Helvellyn.

Didn’t really know what the done thing was, so I went and rolled over a boulder and set about obliterating the spiders nest under there. Only once I was sprouting a hefty fifth appendage did a helicopter full of Japanese tourists pop up over Striding Edge and start snapping away…cue involuntary pinching off blade action and a nasty clean up job…

This reminds me a bit about a TV program I was watching the other week about a young lad with Tourettes syndrome. From an early age, the lad was prepared by his parents and carers for for the fact that someone would probably stick one on him one day, for behaviour that he couldn’t help.

No, it isn’t right, and violent thugs should be dealt with robustly by the law. But they will always be out there (useful in times of war, if nothing else). It’s just a fact of life and the way we all conduct ourselves in public whether on a bike, in a motor vehicle or just down the pub should reflect the fact that we don’t always know who we’re dealing with.

In my head* I’d like to think that if it was me, the moment a driver jumped out of the car at me, I’d jump off the bike, stash it out of the way and tidily incapacitate the driver before he took his first swing.

All of these kind of videos seem to end in a bit of ineffectual handbags followed by the lycra-crad biker sitting on top of a mangled bike whining for the police. surely your average cyclist must have a decent bit of strength, determination and short-burst anaerobic capacity over typical white-van-man?

*in my head I said. I’d probably sh!t it too….

    hmmm – from what I can see…

cyclist attempts ill-advised undertaking manoeuvre between van and reversing car. ends up cutting in front of van from undertaking position.

cyclist obviously set up for confrontation with helmet cam and stupid little compressed air horn.

hey presto – idiot van driver rubbed up the wrong way

    100% avoidable

What has a clean and safe overtake got to do with that

because I’d bet quite a lot of money that it wasn’t, and that other drivers had to make allowances for you and that if the old bill saw that particular manoeuvre they’d want to be having words.

Well it’s beyond what they warrant the frame for…..BUT….

Bearing in mind your weight and the inherent excellentness of the frame it’ll probably be OK. Depends what you do with it though.

    AGAIN BUT…..

You might find the bike slack at 140mm. Think it should be possible for the forks to be spaced down to 120mm which will be kinder on your frame and probably give you nicer steering.
