Is there a reason to switch off the transfer pumps at the first warning? Wonder if you’re not supposed to run the pump dry so he turned it off and tried to continue on the other tanks…

Why would you waste your time arguing with somebody who does it for a living, and charges through the nose for the privilege! You’re very unlikely to get anywhere…just take a deep breath and get through the experience as quickly as possible.

Seen Tornados @ Hamsterley pretty often.

Makes you wonder if our forces are quietly getting ready for a bigger rumble “over there”….

Woody, how do you think you were targeted? Bikes on view / on car outside house? Followed home? Strava?

Google shows that even Everest do alu frames. Should be easy to find someone local

A lot of commercial buildings use narrow profile aluminium frames with double glazed units. Think the alu sections are filled with insulation.

I’ve seen a couple of Grand Designs use them domestically. And bi-fold doors are made of similar profiles, so it can be done.

I’d be interested to price them up against upvc

Osram not bad, but all these +60 / 80 / 100 bulbs trade a bit of extra light against lifespan. Smaller coils and more of them = less margin for heat degradation and vibration.

My old car was such a tw@ when it came to accessing the bulbs that I went back to standard ones and concentrated on making sure the lenses were well polished instead.

Haven’t watched the prog, but read a similar article a bit ago.

When I was a prospective med student, we toured the anatomy labs at Leeds Uni on an open day. Really weird experience seeing the bods carved up like a roast dinner.

Having met a few med students along the way, there are lots of urban myths about entrail necklaces and hands in shoeboxes for rag week / Halloween. In reality, I think the respect is drilled into all concerned from an early stage.

Still not sure I’d want to be a whole body donor though. I’m not religious, superstitious or even that squeamish. Happy to donate organs to help the living, but I’d like rest to be “tidied away” pretty quickly.

What the the surviving relatives make of it? Did they go and see pre/post dissection?

Sounds a bit migrainey. Which is influenced by blood flow “up there”. Do you suffer, or do parents / siblings?

    Detached retina sounds scary.

Definitely one to get checked out I reckon.

If the tank, lines or filter were full of crap or (worse), watery crap, the added solvency of the Redex might have carried a slug of it into the fuel filter and blinded it. Cheap and easy to change, doubt it’s been done before, so nothing to lose….

Think I read that there’s 400kcal in a unit of blood. Either that or it takes 400 to replace one. So it can only make you faster!

Almost certainly dry skin. It’s a vicious circle, as damaged skin dehydrates at 10x the rate of intact skin. This time of year is bad as colder air seems to have a more drying effect and we are all still wearing shorts.

+1 for moisturiser morning and night. Nowt fancy.

If they want to call part of the money you’re prepared to give them a prep fee, fine. So long as it’s not over and above what you were prepared to pay in total.

These places aim to move metal as quickly as possible, so they won’t even have changed a battery if they could help it. I would be a bit concerned that a 4 year old, 60k mile car has a duff battery though. I run older cars and would normally expect 6-10 years out of a well used OE battery. Suggests either lots of cold starts and short runs or an underlying charging issue or battery drain fault.

There was the 2.3 turbo as fitted to the 3 and 6 MPS. Not sure if that was developed before or in parallel with the n/a one. Haven’t heard of fuel pump or injector issues but worth looking out for I guess.

I instinctively agree with the yoga and strengthening exercise approach, but if the worst happens, I wholeheartely recommend malleting the muscle spasms with the best pain killers and anti inflammatories you can get your hands on. Then TAKE IT EASY, don’t muck about trying to do stuff whilst pain is masked. I find that if you can on top of the pain and inflammation once, the spasms stop and you can carefully get your movement back.

We’ve hired these before. Now have a share in a family owned Vax. The problem with all detergent based carpet cleaners is that they leave residue. The more you use them, the more sticky residue accumulates and makes your carpets get dirty again faster – vicious circle. IME, the professional type of hot water extraction machines are loads better. I “think” they can be hired, not sure where from though. Although there are loads of outfits that’ll come and do it for you for under 50 a room.

I’d give Chesters a miss Went yesterday and it’s gone right down hill. Smelled on sewage outside too

Went BH Monday. Rammed and expensive but great food and cakes. Looks like they’ve got a little activated sludge plant round the back. I’ve smelled far worse riding past a farm. Would rather they had that than pollute the river!

OP here – just back from camping weekend away. wow, this escalated!

Interesting to hear other experiences – good and bad. I’ve long held the opinion that in our raving 20’s when we can lose a nights sleep without missing a beat is when biology wants us to have kids, so maybe the 20s/30s/40s argument holds true.

Yes we have strong routine with the kids – everything with them is sorted. They’re 3 fantastic little chaps and wouldn’t change them for the world. We’re lucky that we have very complementary parenting styles and very similar underlying values relating to boundaries, routines and fresh air! We’ve never argued about the kids.

Date night is a struggle as finding a babysitter who’ll take 3 is a big ask we are newly relocated too so don’t really have the depth of knowledge on the local teenaged girls to entrust any of them! I wasn’t really referring to sex life in my original post, although that is a strong symptom of what is missing. For something that used to just happen, and that we sometimes struggled to contain, it seems like a lot of effort now! Obviously biology wires us up differently for a reason, but whilst I’d never be too tired for the act, I’m not prepared to feel like I’m begging and / or cajoling for it and just being another demanding boy in the house who wants something from her at the end of long day. There was a time when “getting in the mood” was mutual and part of the fun, but when it’s one sided it feels a bit demeaning. Mrs seems to be completely ambivalent about it apart from 2 days a month, but that winds me up as well!

It’s started to occur to me that this is damaging our relationship and I’m spending part of every weekend feeling frustrated, dismissed and resentful. This doesn’t make me as fun to be around as I would like to be. Getting out on the bike takes the edge off it and all the family notice the improvement. I used to laugh at the empty nester couples who sit in restaurants with nothing to say to each other, but now I’m worried that this will be us in a few years. We probably will still have our interests in common, but 20 years of feeling like this isn’t going to help, is it?!

For her part, she would rather I wasn’t as easily annoyed, more spontaneous and romantic, and didn’t leave her to plan everything. (Although 99% of the time she is a self-confessed control freak). but when I’m at my worst, my attitude really towards her really hardens and I kind of think that I’ve already handed over all the vast majority of my money and time, what else does she want!

Had to LOL about the Ashley Maddison comments. I’ve got enough on my plate! Although in all seriousness, I don’t want anyone else and would never go looking for it. On the other hand, I’ve kind of gained more of an understanding of the breathtakingly stupid mid-life crisis-type disasters that sone blokes get themselves into. There are times when a bit of an ego-boost and light relief would seem like a good idea, but I know I’ve got too much to loose and have hopefully more respect for myself and women to go down that road.

Anyway, that’s me vented. Thanks for listening!

Cool, cheers. Thought about silicone buckets and postcrete….it’s just the chain or loop that I was struggling with as I don’t really want to write off a u lock or hardened chain. The tyre idea might help though. How do you fill it…in sections?

I had a worrying conversation with a work colleague who I generally regard as pretty sound. Someone mentioned coming across a mum with pushchair round a blind bend in a country road with no pavement. He suggested it would be her fault if she got hit by a car for “not taking responsibility for her own safety”. He then extended this viewpoint to cyclists and mobility scooters on busy or tight roads. In his head, the car is king and his entitlement to drive how he wants overrides anyone else’s right to safety. I don’t think he is that unusual though….

If you’ve lived long enough to get to hospital, you’ve done better than a good number of unsuspecting heart attack victims. As a rule of thumb, if you’ve got this far and now do as you’re told, you’ll be right!

Sounds like a good thing – not really in the same league as trail sanitisation. Towpaths are there to get from a to b. As for icing, there’s plenty of opportunity for ice to form on the hardback-only sections round Bingley. Can’t see Tarmac being any worse.

As an aside, I can’t get my head round this bit…..

said daughter has an as yet undiagnosed liver/low blood sugar issue which they are aware of, and keeping her hungry aka blood sugars low can send her into seizure in the worse case.

How can it be undiagnosed yet the worst-case scenario be known? Has she had a seizure before?

Think you’ve got this just a smidge out of proportion. She got fed, hence no danger. It’s natural to be defensive when your kids have been punished, particularly if it is in a way that you wouldn’t do yourself. But soon (very soon and quicker than you think is possible) Kryton Jr. will have to start learning to play by others rules. She’s probably learned something today. Ask yourself if you’ll still be this angry in a week?

Not sure why but I spent a while watching this and other police shooting videos. A few things in common with most….

There is a very clear socio-economic and therefore racial pattern to most.
American cops appear generally very panicky and poorly trained.
The speed at which things escalate over there is scary
You need to shoot somebody A LOT with police calibre weapons before they keel over…

Scary. I’m glad to live here!
