    Answered my own question….Frog actually sell a 25.4dia x 540mm width x 35mm bar. Sounds like just the thing…

I for one have certainly skipped over more topics recently….there’s been a lot of antagonism and professionally offended. Even quite interesting posts that I would previously have contributed to have descended into ridiculous points-scoring and deliberate mis-quoting.

I like to think of STW as one of thoses particularly friendly pubs where strangers just mingle naturally. But there has been more and more people who in real life I would turn my back on and try to ignore.

In view of that, I don’t actually know who got banned or encouraged to leave. Am I allowed to ask?

Year before last  it was a cloverleaf pattern of 3 loops from same starting spot. Timing only works this way or with repetitive laps, the latter would be sh!t….

For Yorkshire, I think the ambulance trust seconds paramedics to the air ambo. The trauma medic i know of looked into it and I think for him it would have been 50% volunteer, 50% on works time with employers support.

I have nothing to add on each specific bit of arseholery….others have it covered.

May i just venture a bit of advice to you, though…? Having helped my Mum deal with all practicalities after my Dad’s sudden death, i realise it is very easy to sweep all the little pieces of cr@p into one huge insurmountable pile which then gets you down. Its especially easy to do when you’re feeling fragile yourself.

Try to keep each problem in its own little bucket, work out which one to deal with first and just sort one thing at once. And as others have said….a lot of this isn’t for you to sort and cam just be shut down….banks, farmers, mates etc

Would she accept an assessment from an expert driver? The IAM offer something along those lines and deliver pretty clear verdicts on observation skills, anticipation, smooth use of controls etc.

I guess if she has found nothing to take on board from 2 speed awareness courses, then probably not…but a more practical approach might help?

Show her the worst examples of Russian dashcam footage on YouTube….the majority of which shows the consequences not just of breaking speed limits, but inappropriate use of speed and excessive closing speeds between vehicles. I’d say that it is this, combined with the need to retain moral high ground over my own Mrs’ 2 fines and a course that made me start taking limits more seriously.

Cant’t remember the brand of ours, but its a piezo electric active one. To be frank, the electric gubbins don’t seem to make much difference, but its really well insulated and will keep bags of ice at least partially frozen for a couple of days in a tent awning in 30 degree heat.

its all about the insulation (and build quality)

General checkup = nice little earner for most places that rely on private health insurance.

if you’re over 40, your GP should be able to do you a checkup and tap into some health promotion funding to do so.

or do what I did and mention a bit of chest tightness combined with poor family history. That gets everything checked over VERY quickly….!

The Honest John guidance is spot on re rights and liability.

    There’s a bit BUT though….

there are alarm bells ringing with this guy….

    obvious attitude problem

unanaswered phone / overflowing mailbox. Other unanswered unhappy customers?

not a director of his own firm – has he previously folded to avoid liability?

    Go legal, and quickly.

Picked up a flying into the upstairs window victim tgis week. They don’t weigh much at all…no need to brake or swerve if its car damage that you’re worried about.

i know that its sometimes difficult to override empathetic insticts though

Good: dog-egg count noticeably down now its lighter and harder for scumbags to go unnoticed not picking up.

Bad: early season pollen allergies are starting to prickle, although that is more indoors than out as MrsP insists on having cut dafs and tulips in every room

Please could you add a bit more detail to this statement:

Get behind them and with your arms under the armpits / around the chest do a squat-lift, sliding up the wall.

Absolutely do not lift anyone especially the elderly like this.

I know nothing at all about the subject, but the guidance seemed like a fairly pragmatic bit of advice for helping a family member on a very occassional basis. Please tell us why it is absolutely not the right thing to do.

We got a trailer tent! 2 Proper slatted beds with foam mattresses – King Size in our case. Sleeping compartment goes up in 20mins for intermediate stop-offs. The awning is essentially a 3 sided frame tent and is a right pain in the arse – probably an hour including pegging out, but gives us 5m x 3.5m x 2m high living space. If it rains on camping weekends away with friends, they all pile into our living space and we keep the brews going constantly.

We have a second awning half the depth, which might be easier, but never had it out.

Proper kitchen with sink, 2 burners and grill too.

This was all bought immaculately for a grand on Ebay. Pretty competitive if you consider what you would pay for a very robust 6 man tent, beds, cooking equipment and the wherewithal to transport it all.

We would only change for a more modern trailer tent with rapid pitching awning and sewn-in ground sheet.

Pfft…bit quiet tonight. USAF passing over a bit in C17s, but looks looks like the cool stuff gets off early on a Friday.

Air ambulances and police choppers always out and about somewhere though!

Ashy – that website is AMAZING! See the same kind of thing for civil flights before, but not military!

Just popped my head out of the back door to listen to a couple of C130s on their way back from the Lakes loop.

If you want an insight into American paranoid gun culture….have a watch of Active Self Protection.

i actually find the presenter guy quite likable, but hus perception of risk is so skewed its unreal.

Apaches used to be based in Dishforth, N Yorks. Now Middle Wallop.

RAF Leeming issued a local flier pre-warning of round the clock helicopter activity in support of exercises this week and next. It’ll be that.

Conversely….what you actually need is 2 dishwashers. One to keep clean things in, one to put dirty things in. Alternate every 24h. You then don’t need a crockery cupboard and avoid all the double handling.

It occurred to me that he may have been secretly drinking. Not uncommon amongst relapsing dependents, and would explain why his Mum was in the car.

I feel sorry for him and his problems, but drink driving is a really serious thing…the fact that he’s in the public eye means that he needs to be seen to feel the full force of the law.

When he’s well enough, which will be a while, no reason why he shouldn’t still work, IMO

    Depends hugely….

How much time do you want to spend walking it?

How long do you want to be able to leave it alone for?

What do you actually WANT a do for? To join you in outdoor sports? To sit on your feet on an evening? To teach the kids a bit of responsibility? To mooch around the house and garden? To work or show?

None of the above are mutually exclusive…you can’t go far wrong with a general purpose lab, but they are bloody big daft lumpy things and by no means insignificant in the impact they will have in your house and life!

After a protracted period of window shopping, I would love a cocker poo at the slighly calmer end of the spaniel spectrum….but we’re out for too much of the time.

I’ve quite liked a couple of Borders that I met, and the odd Pug for general chilled out companionship.

There was / is an issue with clutch slave cylinder failure contaminating and ruining clutches. Look up on Honest John for more info.

The 1.6 150 is also a nice thing, though pretty rare. Should still do 40mpg….perhaps more consistently. If I was in the market for this size of recent used car, I’d also look at the (non-turbocharged) Mazda 3 Skyactive 2.0 petrol. Even the lower powered ones can be chipped up to the full 170-180bhp by BBR as they are mechanically identical.

Some people don’t perform well under pressure. I’m a reasonable driver but still took 4 attempts to pass back in the day. Having said that, I’d still happily submit myself to refresher training and retesting if everyone else had to.

As far as compulsory retesting goes, i agree that driving is seen as for more of a right than a privilege for retesting to be accepted by the majority. It would have to be a gradual culture change….possibly via the following steps:

    1. Incentive for voluntary refresher and retesting, possibly via reduced or subsidised insurance reduction.

    2. More marked and unmarked camera cars monitoring driving standards, with the discretion to dispense seeds of wisdom where the soil is fertile.

    3. First Incentivised, then later complsory fitting of dash and rear view cams with the aim of properly determining fault and poor driving standards.

    4. Taking all moderatly to seriously bad driving offences to a proper court case, with video being shown to magistrates or judge and compulsory attendance of the defendent in person.

    5.  Compulsory retesting at 6 points.

    6. Gradual introduction of retesting for all.

Camping Sunelia near Benodet was good last year. Mainly decent weather too.

For anywhere on Atlantic coast I’d recommend trying to get as far down as possible on the ferry i.e. Caen / St Malo because driving through Normandy from Calais takes ages and isn’t very interesting.

So what if I don’t have any devices capable of taking an ethernet connection? I do, but could do without the hassle of moving desktop pc out into the hall.

I’m pretty sure it is a contention issue….considering the only times of the week when it drops out…..how would Plusnet fix it…is it as simple as bunging a few quid to BT or whoever owns the copper or fibre going into the greem box?

    +1 for pilates.

i did an hours swimming on Saturday, and climbed a big hill on Sunday. Expected to feel sore after both forms of unaccustomed exercise…..but didn’t. Been doing Pilates for 6 weeks and feel loads younger physically

    My username pre-dates my procedure.

4 yrs post op here. Slight infection on stitches but nothing a course of antibiitics didn’t sort.

    No after-effects.

In common with most of my mates, i was gutted it didnt lead to more sex.

Someone on here in a prev thread reckoned that if affected his relationship. To paraphrase, his Mrs treated him like shit because he’d served his purpose and was now a less attractive prospect to a younger model. Never heard that anywhere else, but it makes you think….

I can’t see any other course of action other than to go round to accusers house and try to be the voice of reason. What happens next will probably make next steps self-explanatory….
