what people don’t know about the brown is the fantastic metallic fleck it has in it. looks amazing in the sunshine and belies the budget frame that it is…

Mr Dodger, it rides very similarly to the original although difficult to make direct comparison as the new one has 29er mtb wheels and 28 section tyres.. the old one was great – the new one, with the added flexibility of discs, ss, fixed etc will be even better. it does need a second set of eyelets on the back though…

Rik, it’s huge.
Dunno about 42s, but I’ve had 32s and guards on both the pomp and the kaff. I’ve added a load more pictures for you to check out those stays…

kaffenback and bob yak by placid casual, on Flickr
it’s true. i’ve currently got a prototype to test and i’m delighted to say that it is everything i’d hoped for.
my original kaffenback has covered 8000 miles in the last 4 years. mostly to work and back, but some trips further afield, including last year’s tour of flanders sportive.
for 150 quid, it is a lovely, comfortable steel framed bike with a position that i like very much (exactly the same geometry as my pompinos i think).
the mark 2 version has replaceable drop-outs, meaning that you can run discs, fixed, single etc. this has meant some tweaks to the stays, but it all looks very nice, especially in the sand colour that still gets positivive comments (most of the time).
i’ve done 300 miles on this prototype, most of them towing a bob yak. the discs are invaluable in stopping the load. the steel frame and the 28 section tyres on 29er rims make for a smooth, fast rolling tourer that should easily clock up the miles.
i’m not sure on plans for putting these into production – worth a call to rotherham…

i have to tell you mr. in cars (can i call you cows?), that i haven’t once noticed how the dog looks when i’m riding the bike.
it rides so well, that the bike could look like a baboon’s arse. fortunately, it doesn’t

kaffenback mark 2? replaceable drop-outs so you can run it how you like.
