Trek – better specced in my opinion, by quite some way. Plus the backup of excellent customer service, a proliferation of dealers across the nation, and it looks nicer.

I won’t be able to do until late March / early April – work are sending me to South Africa and Mauritius.

    Better than London!

personally I’ve never had any problems with Shimano QR’s, and can’t say whether this one is better or worse.

Personally, I think it solves a problem that didn’t exist.

I’ve got one on my stumpjumper. Can’t see how it could come undone without noticing, and even more unlikely to lose the wheel considering the lawyer tabs on the forks these days.

I like juicy 7s a lot. they work, and whilst not superbling, they’re nice enough, and carbon levers don’t feel right to me.

    pics?

    “Who loves you babe?”

Is that because he looks like Babe, Pig in the City in pink?

not for a couple of years, so the chap who built my wheel may have moved on, but I’ve had two years of trouble free riding.

Same with Merlin – I’ve had a set of theirs for 5+ years, and personally would choose them for service reasons over price.

Fred will agree for sure, there’s Gordons wine bar that has plenty of space outside at embankment. And wine.

The real world works like that if you wish to mark yourself out as a troublemaker, and don’t want any sort of payrise, bonus or promotion prospects year on year.

Spine has nothing to do with it. Knowing when to toe the line and when not to is part of working life.

Oh, and I have to do mine, generally say I did most things well, a couple of things very well, and mention a couple of things that didn’t go quite how I wanted, which was a learning experience and yet deadlines were still met to client satisfaction.

Appraisal box ticked for another year.

Should be done in works time. You are effectivly doing unpaid overtime. Stop.

Sadly, the real world doesn’t work like that.

Might I suggest a tour de force of wine bars, delicatessens, and also beauty departments of department stores. Fred, I guess you’d be first on the list for that?

Oh, and apparently I’m King of all Metrosexual Land according to that quiz.

    It said:

What can we say, you are 99-44/100% metrosexual. You walk the walk, you talk the talk and you live the life. All hail the primp King.

    Result. All hail the king!

oh my god, don’t ever by the cheaper end “man” products (the Gillettes, Tescos, supermarket brands etc) as they load them with what smells like concentrated Lynx mixed with condensed skunk jizz. You may well end up being a ladykiller, literally.

As for the basics, all a moisturiser has to do is hold moisture in the skin without being excessively greasy. Given that there’s a whole raft of different skin types due to hormones etc, you’re best off trying until you find one that works for you. If a cheap one works, then use it, it’ll do the same. If you want to spend more, that’s prerogative.

You’ll be fine with them Mark, I wouldn’t have bought the £90 ones from the running you’ve told me you’ll be doing.

In terms of lasting, if you keep them stored well (dry, and out of direct sun) they won’t degrade as fast and so it’ll be your mileage that’s the deciding factor. Realistically you should get about 800 miles out of a pair which if you’re not training for a particular distance event should be easy.

Top tip – get some 1000mile socks next time you’re near the running shop – they’re nice to run in.

There’s some SC Johnson (a family company) wood floor cleaner that works quite well with a mop and a bit of effort.

I tend to just get the MR sheen out and bosh that on the mop. And then remember not to wear socks for a week else I’ll be on my arse.

The front is either 20mm specific or QR specific – there’s no way of using it for both. Not sure on the rear though.

Real nice hubs though, my front one is still super smooth.

It certainly used to be NWMTB that brought them in.

TJ, again, I draw you to my point in the other thread. There is a mass of real world data to draw from on this one – how many people have been using forks of an identical design, with discs, perfectly successfully for an extended period of time? I’d say a hell of a lot.

No-one is contesting that the forces exist, that’s a mechanical fact. But, it’s the extent of those forces being sufficient to cause the wheel to remove itself from the forks as they are presently designed that is the fact under contention. I don’t believe, that without contributory negligence on the users part that they are. I’ll happily be proved wrong, but at present I’m not aware of any evidence to do so.

Stoner – it has clearly been shown

Where? I still maintain that it has flaws, but at the same time in 99% of cases I’m certain user error will be the contributory factor.

I don’t check specifically other than the tyres, and the front QR is usually sorted as the bike doesn’t fit in the car with the front wheel on.

Ultimately I’d be surprised if there was anything mechanical that didn’t manifest within the first few minutes that could cause any real probs.

It’s very tempting, but I work full time. And I live in Kingston which is a shortish ride to chiswick. Hmmm.

Do you need definites, as i may be able to take a day off or something?

You see tj, that’s fine, but of the people I know and have ridden with for the last 20 years and countless hundreds of miles, there’s only one incidence of this that I’m aware of, which was with marzocchi forks and hope quick releases.

So, that begs the question is it just luck or not? I still believe that whilst it’s a design that has flaws, they’re not sufficiently bad to cause such a number of problems compared with user error. Oh, and before you ask, the one incidence I know of was on my own bike, and I freely accept that on the balance of probabilities it was likely to be my error in putting the wheel on.

Personally I would have liked to see fox go through with it as although there is no formalized judgement or precedent set I think it sets an informal precedent that further removes the individual from their personal responsibility and shifts the blame elsewhere. It would also have concluded whether forks are inherently dangerous, which I don’t believe they are if operated properly, and looked after. If they were that bad, wouldn’t we all be mashed up by now?

Looks like we’re in the minority nick. The number of “I’ll teach them a lesson” idiot comments on here is just scary.

For those that advocate the damage, do it while the driver is there if you’re brave enough and want to teach them a lesson. Maybe next week push an old person over as they took too long at a crossing, or kill someone in a supermarket because they took the last tin of your cats favorite flavour. Alternatively, have zero complaint when your insurance premiums rise due to other idiots doing this.

It depends whether you believe the marketing hype or not. Personally I use clarins for men, accompanied by clinique for men oil free anti-shine, as well as their pore minimiser and m-cover stick.

For the rest of me I use kiehls creme de corps which I rate highly, especially immediately post shower.

Whether any of them work any better than the 500ml pots of aqueous bp you can get from boots for £4 is open to question, probably not hugely, maybe not even marginally.

The car would never have been damaged if it had been parked off the bridlepath, and it was only damaged as a result of the thoughtlessnes and ignorance of it’s owner, who has only themselves to blame.

I’d suggest it was damaged at the thoughtlessness, ignorance, and no small helping of arrogance on your part.

Personally I don’t think that’s something to be proud of.

indeed, and then look at the structure of the two families and it’s time to bin the nanny state in this country and enforce personal and social responsibility.

Could you have got past the wing mirror without much inconvenience to yourself? That includes hopping off the bike for 5 seconds and leaning away from the car, and then hopping back on?

If yes, then you should feel bad and should at least offer to make appropriate reparation. And perhaps have a think about the motivation behind the damage in the first place – how would you feel if it was your car, particularly at the moment when cash isn’t as readily available?

Mf, be very careful with this now, as if she has even so much as verbally accepted their offer, it could well constitute acceptance of a compromise agreement, particularly if they have followed it up in writing – that should have a timeframe in which you can refute acceptance, similar to that when tendering a verbal resignation.

If this is the case and agreement has been reached, if you wanted to pursue it further, legs to stand on and heather mills comes to mind.
