ride there, it’ll be a good warm up.

The pump track is pretty well lit from the road next to it so you can ride it after dark.

yup, £6 a litre in my local motor factors. also has the added benefit that i can use it to top up the hydropneumatic suspension in my roller. 😉

    Buy an A2 instead.

Seconded, although you won’t find one nearly as cheap as an equivalent age/mileage A class as they’re very sought after at the moment. especially the tdis.

on a technical note, and not in anyway trying to say this is anything other than a tragedy, i thought most ejector seats were now zero zero, as in zero elevation and zero speed required to make them safe?

Sorry but I’m not a fan.

    A ‘fan’ of what exactly?

I’m guessing he’s not a fan of death.

Thousands are killed and seriously injured every year yet it takes an incident like this to bring things into focus.

Andy, read my link above, incidents like this don’t bring things into focus. If there was a train crash that killed 7 people large scale changes would be bought in. As it is, there were almost 2000 people killed on Britain’s roads last year and the government have cut road safety budgets and removed targets to decrease the number of deaths on our roads. As it is, the m5 is open again 48hrs after the accident and nothing has changed.

well, given that i failed my first driving test attempt for accruing 5 minors for depressing the clutch pedal too early when braking i now use the transmission to brake all the time in conjuction with using the brake pedal.

Grauniad comment piece about the reaction of politicians and the public to motoring deaths. It’s really very interesting – 7 people died this weekend in Taunton and the road was open 48hrs after the accident and there have been no knee jerk changes to laws/policy. 4 died in the hatfield rail crash and there was disruption to the entire rail network for months afterwards to ensure similar accidents didn’t happen.

about a thousand times more people die on our roads in year than other transport means, yet there isn’t any where near the same regulation.

erm, isn’t a 29er so called because the outside diameter of the tyre is approx 29″ (the rim is only approx 24.5″ in diameter). So if you put a 4″ wide tyre on you’ll have an OD of more like 31″ or something.

i can’t remember which teams now, but I saw a photo that showed that a couple of pro-tour teams had additional pockets on their jerseys for litter this year. The pockets were further round the hips from the normal three and were there purely for stuffing used gel wrappers in. I thought that was a great idea.

Or just sousvide it if you’re going all fancy

Well, that’s pretty much what it is – just without the need for posh kitchen equipment! only really works for steak though as your average cool box looses too much heat from warmer water.

what i’d do is take one cool box, fill it full of water at 52 degrees c, put the room temp steak in a zip lock bag with a bit of rosemary and garlic. seal the zip lock bag while squeezing as much air as possible out of the bag. pop the steak in the bag in the cooler. put the lid on. leave for an hour (you’d be surprised that my cooler lost only 0.5 degrees c over this time). 10 mins before you want to eat it put a griddle on the stove as hot as it will go, wait 9 mins, take steak out, flash it on the griddle for 30 secs a side. leave to rest for about 2 minutes then eat.

Anyone know where the rapha condor guys came?

They were racing as Barrow Gurney CC, so came second to the torq boys.

I think the new trails don’t really help with the passing situation, there’s no overrun just very loose earth/rocks at each side. I always asked people if i can get through and normally they let me, although there was one bloke who i’d been behind for a while who when i tried to overtake in one of the few places where there were two lines actually accelerated to cut me off before slowing down again. thanks for that.

Hope you heal soon Mike. Was quite a sight to see you come in covered in that much blood. Looked like you were doing really well too, glad i didn’t do solo now as you would have put me to shame!

Yup, LVIS singlespeed superstars continued their unbeaten winning streak. Team Wideopen won the who can heckle the loudest prize (i think the megaphone helped). Apparently Peaty only did one lap and they were only in the afternoon 4hr (it was quite considerable the number of people who’d entered that, the course really filled up from 1pm). I think the wideopen mag videographer got some footage of Peaty on the course, they should have a video up in a couple of days. Paul reckoned that there more people racing Oktoberfest than Bikefest this year.

you could just hard reset the router (normally holding in the reset button for 10 secs or something) and then it will default to factory settings and you can set a new password.

Unless we all mysteriously disappear at 5 minutes to 9…

If we all disappear then no one will race, shirely?

I spoke to Paul on Sunday, and he said it was full.

Anyone thinking of entering on the line – I’d phone up and check first!

Some one said this in the pub last night too – something to do with not enough parking available at Ashton Court. He was going to talk to the Council and see if he could get any more space though.

    No it doesn’t.

Depends on the definition of reasonable grounds though and i don’t think not being able to produce a receipt is reasonable grounds. If they just saw you cut the lock off a bike on a sheffield stand that might though.

I do, do it about once a month in Bristol (Southmead Hospital). They’ve started taking triple doses from me recently so now takes about 1hr 45 mins in total, but you can give single or double doses which take less time.

Has far less effect on you than whole blood donation. I think you lose about 40ml of whole blood. I always ride there and back with no ill effects (other than once having to wait 5 minutes to calm down once as i’d come in with a high pulse rate which would have adversely affected the machines apparently).

Think I’m now up to about 20 donations in the last two years and generally do it once a month although you can do it every two weeks I think.

Have had some nasty bruising on the venipuncture site in the past, but that’s because I’m not very good at keeping my arm still for that long… Have also had the lip tingling thing where there’s too much anticoagulant in the mix, but it’s easily sorted and again not a problem.

I just don’t believe this is a power the police should have. They’re essentially being allowed to pass judgement on whether or not a bike is stolen – this goes beyond their remit.

Nope, joined team Wideopenmag this time round – had my fill of solo I reckon – a non-competitive 4 has to be more relaxing…

I’m in a 4 with the Wideopenmag crew. Not so much a serious team, more of a downhiller outreach programme – introducing them to the joys of riding uphill, pedalling for more than 30 seconds at a time, that sort of thing. We won’t be taking it terribly seriously (I hope).

I can’t imagine it will be taken that seriously – got to remember the megaphone…

Running 33:19 on my 29er (don’t ask, I seem to have a very random selection of cogs and chainrings).

I think the course will be slightly longer than last year as I imagine Paul will have the changeover at the (or somewhere near) official start of the trail, plus all those new twists and turns will also add length.

It does seem to me that the times will be a bit longer this time round – the extra bit at the top of new barn wood will add a minute or so. be interesting to see how overtaking works as well – the new trails definitely only have one line in a lot of places.

so its a shops job to honour a warranty if the manufacturer won’t?

No, it’s the shops job to honour a warranty full stop. the op has a contract with the shop, not the manufacturer.

to be fair he shouldn’t have to. just teh shop he bought it off should

So therefore it’s the shop he should be ranting about. They should be sorting him out the new link, not Jungle. If Jungle won’t give the shop a new link then that’s the shops problem. QED.

But this is not so simple, as there are not fewer emissions, there are just as many as before.

Correct, the emissions are the same (C02, DP10, NO2 etc) but there are less of each of them.

You want to do something like this really DIY Streets– talk to your councillor about it to see if the council can fund it. As above the highways team will not be the slightest bit interested if there’s no pressure from the councillors – who do you think sets their budgets?
