    Smurf-Mat,

You seem to not know what you're talking about.

    "I can't believe how much they've hyped a small announcement…"

Apple invited tech journos yesterday – for todays announcement! No hype, they're clearly trying to limit the damage here – the (non?) issue has gone mainstream – Oprah, Top Gear etc – time to explain things.

Oh now hang on there! You actually own the phone and yet are saying it is not a major issue!??!? How can that be right? When it flies in the face of all those shouting about the problem existing on the phone they do not actually own!

    You should be ashamed.

ha! it certainly feels that way!
If they give me a free bumper i'll be chuffed (cus i want one!) but honestly, I can't say it needs one.
See what happens at 6 – a load of talking I expect.

I have one. The bars dropped a little – about the same as picking up any mobile – maybe a little worse – never dropped a call for me tho. Since the update yesterday, it doesn't seem to reduce at all.

Hating apple is so cool, but if this is an issue, it's a very small one compared to how good the product is in every other way.

Nick, are you into 60's music? I have a gem I could yousendit to you. It's primarily good, happens to be obscure!
A bit Kate Bushy. It's the only thing that's touched me in that xmas prezzie kinda way

Avi Buffalo, Laura Marling, MGMT's congratulations is worth a proper go, some of Darwin Deez – bit novelty tho.
Yeasayer, Broken Bells is good but a bit soft, too clean. I like Gorollaz, I'm loving Midlake but that was last year i think.

Yes, nice fit. dropped back, collar that stays up if zipped right up. I've never had any issues with any merino care wise – wash on a sports wash, 30º I think, no conditioner, coolish in the drier.

Not sure where it's made – just says 'new zealand alps merino'

The SC – that Shutt looks nice, I'll have a proper look.

still, the idea of deleting the tunes of the computer is surely nuts – had a mate who lost everything this way

or can you drag playlists too? – never tried it (i'll shut up now)

The only thing is dragging and dropping is such a poor way of getting music onto a player. I'd be lost without all my playlists! The smart playlists in iTunes are great, I think people miss them often.

If my iPod was navigable just through artists / albums etc, I don't think I'd use it as much

you should think of the iPod as a mirror of what's in iTunes. Personally I'd never delete the library from iTunes – what if the iPod breaks or you loose it?

Michael – nothing to do with snobbery, the design language of citroen is very different from that of Peugeot.
    Irrespective of who's doing it

they look like 4 or 5 designers with different ideas fought over the same pencil. the resulting mess getting turned into a car. honestly, some of their rear lights are laughably bad! and as for the smiley face…

jeez, peugeots are ugly – at least the crease round the wheel arch stays circular on this one. the flattened front bit on most pugs makes me queazy.

    Bunch of townies!

Did none of you lot spend your youth whittling with penknives, setting fire to stuff, climbing trees and drinking ale? Can't just be me! No fans of Ray Mears here??

it's traditional woodcraft skills in a wood, not carpentry. She's trying to pick something that's totally 'him' and join in. very selfless on her part. the OP says he's into woodcraft but would hate her present of doing it with her.

    gutted for her.

    PM,

I have to say, I'm with your missus – if you're an 'outdoor' kind chap like a lot of mtb'ers seem to be, her train of thought makes total sense. Traditional woodcraft skills like hand hewing that you won't know about – weekend in the woods together round a fire – sounds great.

if she'd booked a weekend shopping somewhere, I'd be gutted for you.

you sound a bit closed minded to me.

I love this brief – always crops up when you're a designer. Always has the same results too. Brooess, I feel for you.

Confab, Communique, Things with 'talk' in the name, erm chat-flow… ouch erm Money Talks (I'm making myself laugh now) – OK, I can't think of anything… monkey tennis?

Wrightyson. I don't think that's right. It's the gps that determines your position and the cell network that pulls down the maps (with the google maps app). So if you have an app with the maps stored, you should be fine.

I use trailguru to record rides and runs. Works pretty well. I'd be happier with a dedicated gpsi think.

"Oh and we've been selling PDF only subscription for nearly three years and we are preparing for the iPad already"

Interesting – So, have apple handed out Mag specific sdk's? or other info?

I'll be looking for mtb (WMB or ST) content for my iPad for sure. Personally I'd rather not subscribe but go into a 'MagStore' and buy one when I fancy it. I'd pay a little more than a printed mag if it had bits of video and other interesting stuff too. Not much more tho – 😉

Be very interesting to see TV / magazines merge on the iPad…

anyone who doesn't think 6music should be saved is, in my opinion, a ****.

adam & joe, jarvis cocker, lauren lavern, marc riley, steve lamacq – pretty much the only thing i pay my license fee for.

A decently secure OS? Mac? Hardly. The Mac OS is not the most secure OS around and is arguably less secure than Windows. The main reason it seems to be more secure is the fact that the Mac OS has not really been the target of hackers as the installed base is not really that big, or hasn't been

This is such BS – MacOS is probably the biggest target as it's so publicised as being secure and mac users are so smug about it – and still nothing has touched it.

I'd go mac by the way – but if you need to actually buy CS, that's another grand. If you could, y know, borrow it – go for that one

if there's nothing you fancy, don't upgrade. Once your contract is up, get on a cheap plan and wait for what you want.

I'm waiting for the 4th gen iPhone this summer – I have the 3g and went from £35 to £19 / month for basically the same calls/text/data

i'm looking at the GF1 also – seems like it might be the best all-rounder of the (limited) crop.

(sorry, I realise me saying 'yeah I want one' is adding SFA!)

Well of course we don't. Parallel universes may exist they may not but ghosts don't

but the point is, a 'ghost' might not be a dead thing / spirit; it could be some an entity out of sync in some way – different dimensions etc – something scientific / based in reality – but just not yet understood.

well, it was in New Scientist: Images were flashed up on a screen; pleasant and horrific – brain patterns were identified. After a while the correct 'response' happened slightly BEFORE the image popped up.

I don't see this as hocus pocus 'paranormal' – I see this as a fascinating glimpse of the (possible) non linearity of time. A persistent illusion as Einstein said.

And yes – we do need to keep scratching. Multiple/parallel dimensions are, for instance, serious subjects.

… and notice how no-one has answered the 'Do you think we know everything' question!

    pjbarton

    To all the sceptics:

Do you think we (scientists) know everything?

Do you think, within physics, chemistry and biology, there is nothing left to learn?!
500 billion galaxies, each with a billion stars and we're still learning about our star!

Replace 'paranormal' with 'un-learnt science' and be a little open minded.

Read up on proper research into these subjects. For instance, there's been amazing research
    into pre-cognative abilities. Positive results.

I think we're just scratching the surface.
