kingtug – ah, that thread, they don’t mention bikes after the first 3 or 4 pages – just lots of slagging, got bored.

KINGTUT, where did you read / hear that? I’m just presuming it’s better – haven’t found much in the way of reviews.

STONER, would I be right in thinking the £399 wheels are all a bit TT? (I’m new to roadbikes)

I keep wanting a bike like the ones in this thread. But every time I ride my Cannondale Rush (still in one piece!) I really can’t fault it. 5 years old I think and running like a dream. Love the lefty too!

The anthem always looks attractive option.

Be nice to ride a Canyon.

Ah, looks like I can’t use it on the plane after all

    From the spec sheet:

    Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet
    Maximum storage altitude: 15,000 feet
    Hmmmm

if you’re wing walking / browsing, you’re screwed. Inside the plane you’ll be fine.

So I bought about the fastest laptop available 18 months ago-ish (MacBook Pro pre i5/7) and yes, the new Air would beat it in many areas.

But the new air is also slow because there’s a faster MacBook Pro out now?!!!

    it’s nuts

also, how many usbs do people need?

Both my productivity machines (earn me money) are macs – very good for work as you basically never have unexpected downtime. My iMac’s been running for nearly 4 years, never crashed, only turned off for week+ holidays / moving house.

You’re bound to struggle a bit if you’re used to windows but it’s pretty intuitive – you’ll love it.

The new Air looks really strong – good processor now.

I still don’t get the garmin logo

me neither. apparently triangles are “clever”

I still don’t get why the garmin logo is ‘clever’
    ?
Me neither. It’s not like you need to be a genius to work it out. I kept looking for something more subtle and was rather disappointed with the explanation TBH.

so it’s logo with a triangle on?!!

Artist/furniture designer – more arty than engineering methinks.

you don’t know ANYTHING about James Dyson then.
He is very much an engineer – hence the very engineered look of his cleaning products. not really product designed in a styling sense. pure function over form

i just got one of these…

the nicer track pumps were pushing 80 quid* anyway – i’m hoping it helps blast a tubeless / get it seated.

    * i fooled myself on that one!

re flash – apart from being a processor hog, many sites require a mouse, drop downs etc – a touch interface doesn’t have a hover state so many of these sites simply wouldn’t work.

and flash to deliver video has never made sense!

i imagine sites like bbc will switch to html5 within a year…

i have nike frees for casual wear – super comfy, looking a bit tatty I suppose. But they are light and so not tough. quite a chunky sole too so not very ‘barefoot’ in that regard. very flexible.

you probably wouldn’t have much trouble running more or less straight away in frees (despite what they say) – unlike fivefingers which are a totally different experience!

for fell run / zero cushion – check these out!

i’ll also add that (for me) stability is overrated – the more I run in fivefinger, inov8s and racier, low cushion shoes, the better I feel.

Nike and Adidas certainly make good and bad shoes – more niche / run specific brands like asics and saucony certainly make sure you’re not choosing their product for the way they look!

Edhornby, that doesn’t mean anything! The most powerful computer it the world would still need an external audio / midi interface!

The korg software is a good example of how powerful the ipad is. Really cheap too – 10 quid instead of a few hundred for the hardware version.

It seems apple hatred is trendier than apple fanboyism now. And more irrational.

Why would you choose a patently inferior product, with 20 or so apps designed for it (vs 70,000), for similar -some cases more- money… Just because you don’t like the company’s CEO?

The iPhone certainly has some decent competition – the iPad does not.

And as for consumption only, the next gorillaz album has been CREATED entirely on the iPad.

i should add my name to the list – maybe there should be a facebook group of bike riding graphic designers.

“how many people buy there bikes through finance?”

    that’s “their bikes…”!!!

am I alone in getting annoyed by the ‘they’re, there, their’ thing?

    (sorry)

Give up on riding. I’ll take that horrible bike off you for £100. You’re welcome.

As a rule of thumb, keep planes the same. Floor and tops especially. Units and tops in wood or units and floor looks ott. The other issue would be the ‘nearly not quite’ mismatch issues of different woods

Fact is we don’t need dinosaurs with archaic sexist opinions (even if only voiced in ‘private’) is a sport that NEEDS more women in it. Surely it’s hard to argue with that?

    pjbarton

The banter argument falls down because he wasn’t joking. We all make jokes, I might make crappy remarks about women knowing their place, tied to cooker etc – lazy and unfunny but comments made in jest. But Gray really believes women shouldn’t be in football, and that she really couldn’t understand the offside rule. It certainly seems that way. A total knob.

The tucking in his mic remarks did seem like banter. Although it wasn’t going down well..

i’ve made quite a bit with apple – or i will when i sell! they’ve been steadily growing for a long time. iPad2, iPhone5, all new macbook pros should keep things cooking this year. should become the worlds biggest company this year (market cap) going past exxon-mobil… crazy!

mine lasted a month before returning to regular – but badly shaped (wiiiide) jeans.
not very helpful at alpkit either – although that totally goes against my experience with then re other stuff. normally very good.

Thanks for the tips chaps. Budget, £20-30 I suppose – a ‘I’d never get round to it bit an ideal gift’ kin a way.

I have another cheapy which is an all plastic wilkinson sword – big chubby head that’s tricky under the nose.

I fancy the butterfly only for the action – the gadget / engineer in me!

    Big hands also, long handle?

    Brilliant thread! 6 pages!!!
For me, I quickly realised that 9 blades all shoved up together just doesn’t work! It’s a proper design fault – irrespective of how sharp they are, they just clog up! So I bought an ‘old fashioned’ razor with the double sided blades and, bingo! Nice big gap behind the blade so you can keep on shaving and all the crud just keeps moving away!

So I’m at the cheap ones from boots stage – love to move upmarket a bit, don’t know where to start.

But seriously, these modern multiple blade razors are a real con.

i’ve got a macbook pro 15″ – i’ve used the dvd drive twice i think – if i was confident this would run indesign, photoshop, illustrator, (and i was buying now) i’d be very tempted. it’ll be very interesting to see the pro machines when they lose the drive…

    ooh, another con…

don’t wash it upside down! – mine seems good in water when the right way up, but i knackered it washing the bike that way – Leisure lakes sorted for me.

    Pros
    very stiff, in all directions
less sticktion’ – although all forks seen good in that regard
    light weight!…
    140mm – 2.83lbs
    120mm – 2.75lbs
    110mm – 2.56lbs
    looks cool

    Cons
Very expensive – especially bought alone
    looks weird (i like 😉

    but crap it is not

i'm going though the same issues right now – want to do my first tri, sprint in Stratford on 3rd October. My swimming is terrible! I think I'll have to do breastroke – I did about 900m but super slow I guess. Crawl I'm faster but I could barely lift my arms out the water after 100m! useless.

I'd like to do a half ironman / 70.3 next year – that's my big target

I also need a road bike. missus not so sure

I want a planetx SL red – looks like a bargain (if £1,100 can be a bargain!)

    So that's a 69er right? Trek is it? Doesn't look quite right…
