I’ve noticed that you rarely get people coming on here complaining how a retailer has reduced the price of a product ‘overnight’ and how dare they.

Depends if they’ve already bought the item ;)

I work for an online retailer (not Planet X) and I can assure you people do complain. They were happy to pay the price at the time!

I’ve got a howies merino T that’s about 4 years old or so, wear it every day for the commute and it still looks good, a few frays here and there but pretty impressive considering the amount of use it has had!

Its a great single speed course I only got off 3 times for no more than 50 meters!
    but i am oar some

You beat me by half an hour and I was pretty broken by the end, good work!

Having never ridden SS off-road before I wasn’t sure what to expect, it was hard.

I was on the pink monstrosity swearing my way around.

Just give it the beans up the first climb and its fine.

Ride a Singlespeed, you then have no choice in the matter.

5th one for me, Still the bike highlight of the year for me.

Managed to slog round SS in 4:22, 8th and last luddite round the long route.

Still beat my previous best by a very big margin, no doubt due to the fact I had no choice with the speed I had to go.

This really boils my piss, I’m no twitcher but I love seeing big raptors in the air.

I think there should be a prison sentence if it is proven this was done intentionally.

Check auto-aid, cheaper for me and flawless when I had to use them.

Dairy work destroyed my hands. Admittedly the opposite to dust as you have wet hands a lot and also scream around on quad bikes in the cold.

Neutrogena did the trick for me.

Those calling to mtfu need to get out of the office :P

Ok, well at least theres some encouraging stories!

If I can’t find any second hand in the next couple of months at least I know I can purchase with slightly less trepidation from them.

Cheers for the heads up on the ones on Pinkbike.

After a quick search it seems Mark Anthony/activesport don’t have the best rep…

I think I’m sold on them, just got to decide where to purchase from.

    Anyone used activesport.co.uk?

Silver is the choice so no worries there.

Boxfish’ issues don’t sound so great though.

Yes pretty much, going on a Singular Peregrine.

So all sorts of road/easy off road.

I think 1×10 would have enough range for the leisurely riding I have planned.

Heres hoping someone matches Sram as you say :-)

    Cheers.

I agree, I think some H plus son TB14’s would be spot on, 23mm wide but can still use high pressures if needed. Bit more classic than the archetypes.

    http://www.stradawheels.co.uk/shop/h-plus-son-tb14-rim/

I think a custom build could be on if I do some penny pinching.

Go an eat in the top(ish) floor of the MBK mall where the locals eat

Agreed, I had no idea what to eat so followed a guy around and copied everything he had, it worked out great.

Scooters on Koh Lanta are a good idea, the roads are a little more chilled and its very nice to have the freedom to explore.

I was on Koh Lanta in the off season and still loved it, after 5 weeks of excess on Samui/phangan/phiphi a little quiet time was much appreciated!

    Enjoy it, Im jealous.

I think I’m right in saying he warranty is void unless fitted by a certified mechanic. Or at least it used to be that way!

Wheels are a bit of a dilemma for me at the minute. Id like:

    Wide-ish rims for big tyres
    Light as poss.
Strong, for a bit of rough stuff and loaded touring.

Plan is for Rohloff rear and dynamo front. But that could change.

What do you reckon are the best rims? some of those new fangled wide road rims or 29er mtb rims?

Im with Norwich and Peterborough, no fees at all when withdrawing money abroad. I was away for a year recently and must have saved about £400 in fees compared to my (arguably silly) mate with a barclays account.

On the contrary, I did 60 miles on the road, no aggro, asked two cyclists with punctures if they were ok and still managed a couple of KOM’s on Strava. ( yes, they were downhill)

    Best day in ages.

Excellent, thanks for the input everyone.

I have bitten the bullet, should have a frame on its way shortly.

Big plans for the build. It will be exclusively silver.

Yeah to be fair to deore they are very good for the money. Slx are a little shinier but I think I’d rather have £30.

    They are post mount calipers.

Cheapest I could find was £63, but they didn’t come with olives and inserts, so actually came to the same price once I’d bought them!

Looks great, only slight gripes are the rear facing dropouts (no good for removing the rear wheel with a mudguard fitted) and the fork dropouts (unless you can get a decent dynamo hub to fit) otherwise perfect!

I think the Surly Straggler still edges it on the above two fronts.

Although I prefer the caliper mounting on the chainstay.

Bristol’s too far from the Surf (for me, no idea about the OP)

I would say Aberystwyth but its fairly out of the way.

Surf can be good, either at the harbour trap or Borth/Ynyslas. The walking and riding is great though.

I have been looking into this too, I’m 5’10 and I think I will be going for a 54 due to the long top tube.

Yeah I’d go shimano, xt if you want shiny. Deore if you want a wedge of cash in your pocket!
