I’ve got a plain gold band which used to be my Grandfather’s (just needed a chunk cut out). I’d have gone for platinum or titanium if getting one new, but this is a bit more meaningful, and my Mum was delighted that I wear it. Anything in your family which means something to you?

and the sheer number of perfectly coifed mums driving Mercedes M-classes or Range Rovers (slowly) between the two different parking areas via the MAIN FLIPPING ROAD is un-flipping-believable!

    This cheer you up?

In other amusing driving related antics, a 3-series driver (new looking “60” plate) managed to drive over a jutting out kerb round the corner from my flat at about 20mph this morning, despite there being no other cars on the road (which is easily wide enough for two cars to pass). I had headphones in and still heard the crunches as the front then the back wheel went over. I winced at the thought of two new wheels.

Hopefully laughing at other people’s misfortune / stupidity will help you.

Mrs PixelMix and I are gatecrashing other people’s enjoyment of Valentines day by spending a long weekend visiting friends who recently got engaged. (Failed to notice the date when getting that sorted out) :)

We normally just have a nice meal in the flat on our own, as it’s not worth battling for elbow room in a packed restaurant.

I guess I’ll just need to wait for Trout’s retina burning all-in-one light unit to be made then (hint hint).

Excellent work from all involved (WCA, Troutie, Smudge etc). Mark’s story is very moving, and this is a fantastic cause.

I read that as ‘Brain fade’.

Clearly doesn’t take much to cause it in me

I did exactly the same!

Maybe I have been brainwashed by riding a Specialized Epic

Mrs PixelMix has a “Petite” Cannondale frame, which is pretty tiny. Her sister rides a 14″ Scandal, and seemed to like it. Both are 5ft. When I was looking into new frames before, the Dirty Jo Semi Creme was suggested as being a small, cheap frame.

Thanks cupra. There is a good site for that trail. Could maybe head along to Alyth on there, or head north for a bit, as it seems to suggest that the Blackcraig Forest is reasonable for biking. I accept that I might not find “rad” riding on a two hour bimble from Blairgowrie, but at least I can get the tyres dirty.

Good call re Dunkeld – thanks. I’ve walked around the Hermitage plenty of times before, but never explored by bike. That looks like being a good option if I can’t ride from the door then.

I suppose the lavish new visitor centre starts to make a little more sense then. In the other threads, there was a lot of scepticism about filling it, but I suppose the Go-Ape visitors will bump up the numbers slightly.

I also don’t see the point of a diesel in a sports car.

Some people only have one car, need to do 15,000mi pa in it, but want something interesting that can be thrown into a bends.

JCornford – I’ve got bugger all personal experience but a mate of mine quickly returned his iphone 4 upgrade and reverted to his old 3. He said the 4 was crap to the point of unusable.

Just to balance out, I have an iPhone 3G (now over 2 years old, so a bit underpowered). I had an iPhone 4 from work for a few months and thought it was brilliant. Much snappier, great screen.

I don’t get the fuss. You can already get lots of soft tops in diesel (Mercs, BMWs etc). Modern diesel engines aren’t as noisy and rattly as they used to be, and for out of town driving, are the most economical option (even compared with electric assisted etc).

I drive a diesel (not a roadster), and whilst I would prefer the sound of a petrol, my wallet much prefers the diesel.

Aygo does look a bit small for bikes.

We had a Nissan Micra for 3 years (the model just before the new, slightly odd looking one). It might not be trendy, but it was totally faultless for the whole time, did the best part of 50mpg, could easily get a bike in the back with the front wheel off and back seats folded, and I also had a halfords rack for the back. Nippy enough around town and reasonably comfortable, although slightly noisy engine at *cough* 80mph *cough*.

    excessive use of tags

I think this is a newbie thing. I’ve noticed a few other posters do the same thing, presumably because they see the tags option, presume that they should be used, and don’t realise that tags are rarely used on other postings.

btw, how do i put pics on here, or do I just link a photobucket pic?

Host photos elsewhere (flickr or photobucket etc) and then link to them, or use the “IMG” tag above to insert an image URL.

You’ll be fine. Cycling kit dries really quickly anyway (much quicker than the usual cotton stuff in the wash), and it’ll get a blow dry on the first descent anyway (or soaked in the pissing rain on the first climb).

Good pics all. Now hankering after a blue or white Pompino with drop bars, CX tyres, front brake and a fixed gear to give me something fast, cheap and intersting to ride until I get enough funds together for a proper CX bike. Plenty of inspiration here.

How far are you prepared to travel? Could be an opportunity to ride somewhere new / have a long weekend away.

10 Under the Ben in May
7 hour race at Glentress in June (see the other thread floating about on here)
    10 @ Kirroughtree in July

Can you tell which country I live in?

    +1 the above.

I used to get a sore back when riding hard for even just 1h30. Strengthening my core muscles slightly and doing a few stretches has made a big difference. I’d lie low for a few days, and hopefully the current problem will clear up (assuming it isn’t something more serious), at which stage you can make a point of doing a few situps and stretches every week from now on.

Best just to tell your nearest and dearest which solicitor holds your will, or keep your own copy in an obvious place in the house with a note of the solicitor’s details. There isn’t a central register where all wills get logged in Scotland.

There are often ads in legal journals looking for people who might hold wills etc for Mr X, but I suspect this approach isn’t terribly successful.

I’d got hardcore hardtail if you already have a full sus. Then you have one bike which you will be less worried about in the mud.

The Anthem is reckoned to ride rough stuff as well as a lot of 5″ bikes too, so better to go for something really different, rather than two relatively similar bikes.

If it is a run of the mill letter, I’m sure you could find someone to do it for a lot less than £520-£780.

    pixelmix

Hmmm, I could get by with one, but since that would be a full-sus, I would be overbiked for trips around town, would be paranoid about it getting nicked, and would no doubt have to replace the bearings and drivetrain far more often. In my head, it is cheaper to have a second bike too. :)

If it helps your survey, Mrs PixelMix only has one bike.

260 quid per hour and 2-3 hours to write a letter

    I’ll rise to the troll…

£260 per hour less staff (secretarial etc) costs, rent, heating, power and related overheads, professional membership, cost of several years of training.

2-3 hours will also include time taking your instructions, any necessary research, and probably includes an hour allocated for listening to you warbling on about high fees.

You could get lost in some of those, or at least buckle a wheel. :-)

I’m off to download that CTC app before I trash an alloy wheel in some of the chasms around Edinburgh.

This is a bit of a hot topic these days. See here.

Kinesis DC19 is popular if you want carbon. If you want cheap ‘n’ cheerful steel, the fork from the On-One Pompetamine is available for about £39.

    pushup test

    ?

I’m currently riding the stock 670mm ones on the Anthem, with a puny 620mm on the singlespeed Inbred. Eventually (when I have funds) I plan on sticking the 670mm on the Inbred, and getting 660mm carbon low rise ones or similar for the Anthem, giving a lighter, marginally more racy feel.

Looking at the above posts, I didn’t realise 670mm was now considered to be narrow.

And that is not threaded through the mechs?

Yup, big ring at the front, biggest cog at the back, and add two whole links whilst NOT through the rear mech. Bear in mind that a link is made up of two sections really.

I think Al is referring to chainstays effectively getting longer on some full-sus bikes depending on which point in the travel you are.

If you are happy with your phone, and will upgrade when the next big iPhone update comes out, then I would suggest going for a 30 day SIM only iPhone contract with o2. Then you can change your phone whenever you like. Change ASAP, as it will be much cheaper than letting your current contract continue.

Lovely weather in Scotland as usual, dry and sunny with a light breeze. Unfortunately I’m taking the better half to look at wedding shoes….

Having just been out, I can confirm that the light Scottish breeze is however a headwind whichever way you run into it.

I’m out on the bike tomorrow, which the metoffice suggests will be a rather wet ride.

Sounds like wiggle based on one of the other threads the other day. I’d give them a call and talk to someone about your issue. Hopefully someone there will see sense, or I’d be taking my business elsewhere. I’m sure your LBS would be keen to do a deal of some sort with some extras if you took your business there instead. It might not be 20% off, but your average LBS will give you much more personal service IMO.

Just select the album / tracks in the item, right click and delete.

No need to remove from the iTunes media folder (which you have already done) as iTunes will give you the option to do that when you delete tracks from the iTunes library.
