I was mountainbiking just south of Machynlleth in a place called Artists Valley about 15 years ago and came to a farm with a strange looking chap sitting in the garden. Stopped to open a gate and he engaged me in conversation, nice day, where've you come from etc. He didn't look like your average farmer and a few days later I saw him on the telly,it was Jimmy Page, apparently Robert Plant still lives just up the road. Rock n roll or what? Just wish I'd recognised him at the time but would probably not known what to say.

If i the UK it was probably a Real Tennis court if in Spain then Perlotta as before.Real Tennis is the fore-runner to the normal version and courts are to be found attached to Public Schools and mainly in the Home Counties, if you think normal tennis is elitist………

Try http://www.vamoosecamperconversions.co.uk they are in Langsett Sheffield about 1/2 mile from the forest carpark. They often have 1 of their creations outside the house gates. Our blue van is in their gallery and is the best thing we have bought in a long time. They specialise in VW T4 and 5 but he can turn his hand to most things.

You could try Isabelle Patissier, good on rockery as well.

If they wanted to get off on a technicality they would have had more success claiming that there isn’t an A619 in Brockholes, its the A616. This road is on the way to where I go turbo training and is on a steep downhill just after it goes from 40 to 30 I’ve nearly broken the limit on my road bike.

Forgot the obvious but important bit. Swop is for a right hand or possibly rear opening box. Doh!!

Perhaps I should have qualified it by saying mountainbiking. Do you think 30+ miles is possible on a towpath without finding a section that has been resurfaced in the black stuff?

Not strictly on topic but related to biking. What’s the furthest you can ride in the UK without touching tarmac in any way (and I don’t mean jumping across roads). The route would have to be linear or a big circle i.e not gratuitous up and down forest roads in somewhere like Kielder. I found one which starts about half way between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth and comes out on the A44 by the rally school called Sweet Lamb, a distance of 32 miles. Its not all on the OS map but pretty well legal, certainly no footpaths or private land. It’s a very good day out and by simply crossing the A44 you can add another 15 miles again all off road to Devils Bridge. Any advance on this?

Went on a motorbike trip exactly a year ago to the North Cape, myself and a mate. We had several discussions about the oddness of 24 hour daylight then he asked do you think we’ll see the Northern Lights?!!!! Worrying thing is that he is a Policeman.

“IS THIS RIGHT?” Yes it is right as in correct but IMO not just. I found myself in a similar position 4 years ago. Doing silly annual mileage (still do) and I got away with a hefty fine but no ban, the only defence that can be used is one of the loss of your licence would cause unreasonable hardship to parties unconnected with you or your family. I ran a small company which, it was argued, would fold causing unemployment to 4 people if I was unable to drive to get orders and see customers. Found myself a very good solicitor as I was too emotional to argue this in court. Bit late for your mate but as for the hand wringers saying it’s all his fault, they should try doing the sort of mileage I do and meeting deadlines with traffic jams, roadworks etc. It’s a complete lottery.

That’s a bit spooky, was watching this last night whilst on turbo. Anyone up for a spot the mistake quiz in the Italian Job (original version only). I’ll start with a couple of obvious ones, fixing the differential whilst under the rear of a front wheel drive mini.Left and right hand drive Fiat car transporters.
    Brilliant film though!!

How far do you want to cast your net? If 1 hour from Bergamo airport is do-able, I have info on San Colombano which is a fantastic little village at the head of Val Trompia, very natural riding accessd via a chairlift if you want an easy day. We stayed in an old monastary which is perfect for 8-10 people and is next door to a bar.

Sorry uplink, I should have added that I am a complete numpty regarding such matters. I don’t actually think I should be let loose with a mouse and that tin box that’s on the other end of it. What i really want to do is completely eradicate all traces of MM from my computer and fool it into thinking I’m installing it from scratch. Could this work or will there always be a gemlin which stops me doing this?

Thanks for that, just had another thought, I have a Garmin Zumo which I use on the motorbike, that came with Garmins European Navigator software version 10. Some of the photos on the site show them using an Etrex. Is there a way of transferring the route to my Garmin software then uploading it to my foretrex without the complication of converting it. I know I really should know how to do this but it is doing my head in.

If you want something off the beaten track this http://www.laboucoule.com is heartily recommended. They have various options from sleeping 4 to 14, the swimming pool has got to be seen to be believed and there is great mountainbiking literally from the doorstep. Its at the foot of Mt Ventoux and 10 mins walk from Montbrun Les Bains in lavender country. Owners are Dutch and very laid back, will cook for you if you want. Best Gite type place I have ever stayed at.

If you want a really good guide book, try LE to JO’G The Great British Bike Adventure by Phil Horsley published by Cordee. I followed it and did it in 11 days, average 100m per day, very scenic includes the old Severn Bridge and up the Wye Valley so check it is still possible to cycle across the old bridge. It was an experience I have never forgotten.

The Cardrona across the road from Glentress is fab. Lots for the kids, pool, gym, golf and did I mention across the road from Glentress and 3 miles from Innerliethen? Some good natural riding on the other side of the valley as well. Quite expensive but willing to do a deal on BB & evening meal which is also very good. Not as stuffy an attitude as some big hotels.

Recognise the area from a motorbike trip me and a mate made to the North Cape last year, it is the Trollsteigen road near Ardalsnes. The Troll Wall nearby is the highest cliff in Europe, truly spectacular. We were the first vehicles up the road in 2008 after it had been cleared of snow, made the Norwegian press! The road itself makes you giddy but throwing yourself off the top and buzzing the traffic on the way down is for nutters only.

Correct, they’re rubbish. I have one on my Touran which packed up after about 6 months, despite attempts to get it fixed, the dealer seems to know less about how it works than I do and blamed the hands free mobile kit for knackering the wiring even though the kit was in from the car being new.

Been using Ultimate Ears Superfi 5’s for about a year, they’re amazing compared to standard or even Sony/Sennheiser ones. Much better range and isolation. Must admit I was a bit cheeky and tried the various options in the Apple shop and then bought on line for £100 compared to £160.

Thanks to all, managed to get FF onto desktop now, working fine. Just shows the shallowness of my computing ability, bit like driving a car without knowing where the oil goes and what it is used for or even how to open the bonnet.

Thanks very much Rich I followed the instructions to the letter, comma, hyphen etc but when I got to the last instruction which I typed in verbatim 3 times, I kept getting invalid command. Any clues? Obviously I didnt type ftp> after the prompt.

Scardypants: Thanks but how? I’m using one ofthe kids’ laptops atm which has got Firefox on it but cannot see howto save to a disc drive, is it do-able?
Richc:Also thanks but your reply was not exactly what I meant by words of 1 syllable i.e making the assumption I am a 49 year old numptie who only recently worked out why there are 3 buttons on a mouse. Instructions starting with”turn the PC on” is about my level.

Any clues how I can download anything when the IE is the only way a I can get onto the web on that computer. Can you download it on another and transfer via memory stick or suchlike? Dont think porn is to blame unless other hands have been busy on the thing.
