Just bought one in preparation for the WRT, not been out in it yet but it looks the part, seems well made and importantly packs really small, had the bag adapted with loops to fasten it to the downtube on my Blur which works really well.Would be interested in any other novel ideas on how to carry stuff on a FS bike, apart from spending £100 on a bag from Carousel.

Saw (sic) them in Holmfirth end of 2008, good night out and possibly the most oirish band ever, only the drummer didn't look inbred. 8O

Perhaps I'm being picky when considering the relative ineptitude of most chain bike shops. I registered for the opening offer for EBC Sheffield as I am in the market for a bike box and £30 off seemed a good deal. Their blurb said I would be sent a voucher on the opening day which was yesterday, still waiting. Not a great start.

If you have ever been to Ystrad or anywhere in the Rhondda valley you will know that this is perfectly feasable. Was in digs in Ynysybwl whilst at college, christ it was grim.

I got a Pace riding jacket brand new for £30 last year, I always think it's where old cycling stuff goes to die. Last refuge of the sandals and socks with optional tracksters brigade. :D

Reminds me of the Father Ted scene where he's telling Dougal that the toy cows are small but the real ones area long way away. Grinning Brian wound me up as well.

Reading the report, the reference to Lady Moss made me chuckle, is it the female equivalent of the fur found in James May's Gentlemans Area.

Not sure which one exactly but try http://www.slotforum.com and oldslotracer as he has done loads including a Mille Miglia track which is out of this world. There is also a slot version of Pikes Peak which has been posted on You Tube, again a sight to behold. Warning you may lose a few days.

Thanks for all the politics and Gates baiting, so I still need to solve my Googling problem, anyone? Also if I have to get yet another browser, which is the best?

Having read the article which says he was presented with the Rhodes Trophy for achievement by a Yorkshire rider I'm concerned that his advertised appearance at the Yorkshire Cycling Federation Lunch on Sunday may not happen as this was due to be done there. I am going just to see how he gets on with a room full of testers moaning about the road surface on various TT courses in the county, which to my mind are like billiard tables or complaining that they didn't PB last year as it was too windy, there were fewer lorries to get a tow off due to the recession or other such nonsense. My wife is a tester before the flaming starts.

Seems quite a few STWers live around Barnsley, riding varies from Wharncliffe where there are a couple of decent cross country loops and several scary downhill courses frequented by wannabe and actual Peats. For mixed trail riding the area around Silkstone and Cawthorne is ok with the woods by J37 alright for pootling about. Not much to the East apart from the Trans Pennine Trail, can be a bit dodgy with broken glass and vicious dogs. Then there's Langsett and Cut Gate if you want a big ride.

For a very robust seatpost rack try Cycle Promotions in Barnsley,01226 294991 they have an aluminium rack with a better clamp than Topeak with similar weight and adjustability for £13.99 got one on my Blur and it clears the rear wheel on max compression. They also have Altura rack packs with little fold out panniers for £35 so all in under your budget.Make sure you're using a sturdy aluminium seat post, carbon will just break.

I found a great game to play on it, place your webcam upside down recording the stranger's screen. The w@nkers get to see how ridiculous they look and the rest of the twonks just look confused for a bit and then turn their heads upside down. Hours of fun.

Oh what short memories we all have. They ran probably the most successful xc racing team in UK history, Barrie Clarke, David Baker,Paul Hinton, Adrian Timmis, Caroline Alexander, pity the stars were on hand built money no object bikes painted to look like the run of the mill whilst the rest of us had to put up with Tiawanese tea trollys and glued together frames. I guess that most interested bikers couldn't make the link between the Team bikes and the rest of the range.

My mother bless her used to have a mini traveller (old style half timbered) and my dad could never work out why it did bugger all to the gallon, putting it down to short journeys. One day he went out with her driving, she got in, pulled out the choke knob, hung her handbag on it and drove off.

Joking apart, it is quite difficult to park in poor light and the 300 distance sensors which each make a different bleeping noise when you come within 500yds of the kerb or another car make life difficult. I far rather trust my judgement than a cacophony of noise which sounds like the check outs at Morrisons are about to self destruct.

Sebastian Loeb(multi World Rally Champ) is a keen mountainbiker, nearly lost his title a coule of years ago through breaking an arm. Colin McRae RIP was often to be seen out with the Machynlleth crew. In fact most of the top motorsport stars are bikers. Jenson Button does triathlon if that counts.
    Oh and that knob Cameron.

I always pack shoes, helmet, jacket and tools/pump to put bike back together in the bike bag, does this mean this is against Easy jet rules even if the whole lot is well under the limit?

Try the Marin Trail in the Gwydyr Forest, not too technical and lovely views. The climb up from the official start is a bit demoralising for the youngsters so I would recommend driving up past Swallow Falls and take the lane up the side of the Ugly House (very steep and narrow) and park where you meet the trail for the second time, this means you can ride a couple of the loops and not loose too much height, when you come to the crossroads above Llanwrst, leave out the loop down to the carpark and this will keep you up in the forest. Trail map is downloadable from the FC website.

Rented one of the cottages over this New Year, the area is really lovely but the trail was under a foot of snow. Rode there about 5 years ago and although it's a bit short, the surrounding area has a massive network of riding so worth a trip IMO.

Wonder if they're paying the full £40 entry fee?
Didn't get an entry in either this or the Etape du Dales this year mainly due to not being an insomniac and having a social life. Who thought up opening the Etape entry at midnight on New Years Eve? Not bitter or owt :(

At slightly the other end of the scale a McLaren F1 road car (the one with 3 seats and you sit in the middle one)was new 10 years ago for £500k now worth £2.5 million according to Top Gear and they're always right!

The most useful model I have come across which is sadly now defunct was the Garmin Foretrex 201, it had a multitude of screens including 10 figure o/s grid location, altitude, download and upload ability from both Memory Map and Anquet, arrow to show you where to go and all in a unit not much bigger than a trip computer. The only problems were they were a bit fragile but for around £100 couldn't fault them, wish you could still get them.

Was on a 200k road bike ride in Italy a couple of years ago, riding along the side of Lake Iseo broke a spoke on my rear Kysyrium SSC, stood at the side of the road feeling sorry for myself and soaking from an earlier storm, guy in a people carrier stops and seeing my problem sticks me and the bike in the car and runs me to the LBS whilst phoning forward.Shop is a Pinarello dealer with nothing for sale under 4,000 Euros and a workshop that you could eat your dinner off . Despite much grubbing around in the spoke box they couldn't find the correct length spoke, so they do nothing more than take a wheel out of a Prince on display, remove the spoke rendering it unsalable, fix my wheel, true it and charge me 8 Euros, true spirit of cycling and probably only in Italy!!
