Depends what spec you want. What is the current rim, could existing spokes be used, if not, what type of spokes do you want. Also the tubeless conversion, do you want the Stans conversion kit or yellow tape and valve, depends what type of tyres you are proposing to use. Hence suggesting you e mail me to discuss properly. I can assure you of a strong pair of wheels .

I can do it, DT Swiss trained and done the same thing on my own Pro2’s with Stans tubeless rims a few weeks ago. Based 5 mls from Huddersfield (South) e mail in profile.

So many questions. How have you got the left off without the right? They are a 1 piece unit connected by the brace. Are you loosening the nut on the bottom of the leg, removing the crush washer and replacing the nut, then using a good quality socket with the nut undone about 3 threads, giving the socket a sharp tap with a mallet? If you’ve tried this, it is a matter of feel as to how hard to hit it but I would recommend taking it to someone who has experience and throw yourself on their mercy, especially this close to your hols.

Glad to see you had a good ride, the wind must have dried it out today, either that or you avoided the bits Mrs PB found last night. Strangely I’ve never seen any fish up there either 😉

Ton, you are right if you are only planning to ride Mickleden Edge and a little bit towards Cut Gate but where it starts to level off it is still extremely boggy. Also the track down North America which hasn’t had much work done is very claggy so not suitable to do a circular route back to Langsett. I’d be looking at the tracks around Tinker Well and Hepworth if you want a decent pootle without mud up to the axles.

Unfortunately they closed down last Monday, real shame, one of the owners is a mate. The shops in Worsborough and Barnsley have also shut, combination of Internet competition, bad weather at 2 York Rallys and the general economic climate.

Did it in early May after a couple of weeks of rain, it was hard work on the section across the hillsides West of Lloyney to Llanbadarn Fynydd. The river Irthon at Llanbadarn can be by-passed over a bridge. The climb out of Bwylch Y Sarnau will be horrible. The stream crossings I would be cautious of are at the top of the Elan Valley at Claerwen and I would definitely use the road before Claerwen Dam rather than the RUPP which is waterlogged at the best of times. All in all it will be miserable.

Mike Hawthorn, Mexborough’s first and last Formula 1 World Champion was killed. My Dad was a works rally driver at that time as well but strangely I was named after one of the casualties of the Munich Air Disaster who had spent several days in a coma, nobody in my immediate family has any interest in football 😕

My main thought is that you must have grown out of it given the size of the frame and how high you have mounted it on the wall 😉

Same applies for Eurotunnel, point 1.1 of their T&C’s allows them to take the full standard fare if you don’t turn up for the return within the allotted time period. Thats why payment must be made by card.

Sorry, didn’t read the original post carefully enough, not sure the green/blue combo will work as the tab will be at a completely different angle. Worth playing about with swapping them side to side though. I’ve got a feeling that the silver/black combo is what you want. You could try OnOne for replacement washers.

I run the same arrangement with an Alfine 11 and OnOne Scandal with horizontal dropouts. I used the washers that came with it i.e blue green but reversed, this gives the up the seatstay routing you are looking for, the green washer sits on the non drive side with the tab poining backwards and the blue on the drive side again tab backwards.

    Hi Matt,
The minimum that you will need to impress insurers is Sold Secure Gold, is the bike parked outside, if not, get a ground anchor and lock from Oxford Products, they won’t stop a determined thief but as Oxford are a recognised brand, the insurers are sometimes influenced by this.

I guess some rocket scientist will be along to correct me but the basics are that grease is not compressable and should be used in roller bearings where it sits between the balls and lubricates the rolling action. Copper anti seize is compressible and goes on threads to stop them seizing due to oxidisation. So use on bolts, etc and the seat post. The moot point is that there are some components that need to be prevented from moving such as EBB.Maybe a smidge of anti sieze will make disassembly easier.

You may be in for a long wait hilton, as far as I know, Singletraction and Forestry Commission, or whatever they are called this week, have stopped XC development. The “hidden” trails are not difficult to find but I agree, going with a local is a good idea.

I was on a rainy road ride a few years ago and a spoke broke on my rear Ksyrium wheel making it unable to turn, I was carrying the bike along the road and a guy stopped, loaded a very wet me and the bike into his car which also contained his family and ran me to a shop about 10 miles away whilst checking with them on his mobile that they could do the repair. Bike fixed and back on the road in about half an hour. I guess the main point is that this was in Italy, can’t see me being so lucky in the UK.

Sorry to potentially rain on your parade but you need to check jet2’s T&C’s very carefully, we flew with them E Mids to Mallorca in April this year, the weight limit for bikes is a bizarre 20kg over which you pay £20 per kg per flight if I remember correctly. We were ok as we were road biking with carbon and Ti bikes but even so with rigid boxes we were very close to the limit. They checked the weight at both airports and I saw some other people being charged for the excess weight of their baggage so they are enforcing it. I hope they have reviewed this but it would be advisable to double check.

We use Caxton FX currency card, decent exchange rate and saves carrying wads of cash, just withdraw what you want at an ATM.

You’re also not far from Bikeboxalan (google it) in Sheffield who also does a hire service for hard case boxes.

I rode it with a group from Penistone 12 months ago, it seemed pretty well finished then, the bridge at Selside was 95% complete. Don’t know what has taken a year to finish, probably a funding issue as usual.

I did a very similar route 10 days ago from home, I live 2 mls from the North end of Cut Gate. The better way of getting from Dunford to Royston Vasey (Padfield) is to follow the Northern Horse Route instead of dropping down to the West end of the Woodhead tunnel, it’s much more interesting than the old railway line. Also the Cut Gate track will be very wet after a week of continuous rain, when we came down it was dry and dusty but that will not be the case now. Also the bridleway across Thurlstone Moor is a bit dodgy, there is a 100m section just before you drop onto the TPT which is a footpath, the house owner at the end is very aggressive and knows the situation, you may be ok on a weekday but whoever published the route is obviously unaware of the history. Hope this helps, have a good ride.

try Nant Yr Arian, it’s just off the A44 between Ponterwyd and Aberystwyth. Take a map, there’s so much more than the waymarked trails to explore.

If the bend is over a large section of the rim it should be possible to bend it back, I used the channel that a roller shutter door runs in to recover a Crest which had 20+mm of deflection over about 150mm. It is still holding air with a yellow tape Stans setup.

You will have the question, Why do people pay £30+ to do a Sportive when there are these events all over the country? buzzing around your head for the entire route. The card or brevet you carry is a small cardboard thing about 3″x2″, take a plastic bag if you don’t want it turned into mash by rain or sweat. Don’t be fooled by the slightly shabby appearance of some of the riders at the start, many are seriously fast but tend not to be too chatty IME.

1st instruction involves turning the bike upside down, for that reason I’m out 🙂
