So, in order to remedy your self inflicted problem, you’ve decided to commit fraud. Classy.

Don’t really remember either Gran but my mother used to enjoy a slice of vendetta for pudding. 🙂

Strange this, together with the classic rally car thread. My father competed in rallies against Steve’ s dad Terry back in the 80’s and 90’s. They ran the mighty Lada Riva and entered the RAC rally a few times. On one occasion we were next in line in scrutineering to Juha Kankkunen in the Toyota Celica GT4, had a long chat with him, nice bloke.

Missed this as I was out riding today, 24 degrees and clear blue skies in southern Catalunya. Still, wishing alpkit good luck with the Sonder range, before we left the uk, I was tasked with the job of building the first 6 prototypes. The 650+ is a really nice bike as is the gravel bike. Neil is a really good tech guy and top rider.
Brant, if you’re lurking, I managed to get the bolt through forks I was after when I was home at Christmas, good job that nothing’s changed at PX, picked up exactly what I wanted at the clearance shop for next to nothing, never been on a bike 😆
Invite to visit still stands, bring Neil and some bikes, you’ll love it.

What about this, Catalunya north to south[/url] which is 400 miles, self supported and finishes about 20 km from where I live. Max time limit 5 days.Term time as we’ll.

Met about 20 club members at 9am and did 38km of single track and hooning around the woods. One of the older guys met us at half way with beer and crisps on a table out the back of his car, all foc! Clear blue skies all day and a little chilly in the woods otherwise 16-18degrees. Did I mention I was in Catalunya 😉

Met about 20 other club members and did 38km single track exploring and hooning about in the woods, one of the senior guys met us half way with beer and crisps on a table out the back of his car, all foc. Clear blue skies all day if a bit nippy in the woods, did I mention I was in Cataluna 😉

The Tuscan trail is logistically more complicated than the CAT700 as you have to find transport from the finish to the start or vice versa if you do the transfer before you start the event. The CAT700 is a virtually linear route from north to south of Cataluna but the organisers bus you to the start. I happen to live about 20km from the finish and have offered to sort out any uk based riders who can get themselves to Reus/Tarragona airport. For you southerners, Ryan air is now flying to castellon from Bristol and stanstead. There seems to be a fair interest in multi day self supported events in Europe but unlike many of the uk ones, the organisers will charge for taking part.

Your best bet is to go to Bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk as there was a lengthy thread on this year’s event on there. Also one of the head honchos at Alpkit did it and posted his thoughts on their site. I know this as I built the bike he did it on. Also there’s a similar event in Northern Spain i.e Catalonia in June their site is http://www.cat700.com

Just finished Squeeze’s greatest hits and half way through Massive Attack’s Blue Lines. To complete the picture, wood burner is on, drinking a cheeky Fidencio red sourced for under 3 euros and had a 45km club mtb ride in clear blue skies this morning. Did I mention I was in Cataluna 😉

How would a strong hanger break a frame?

By not breaking and transferring the force to the chainstay or seatstay or dropout which would mean a new frame rather than a cheap hanger. The way I usually explain the need for a mech hanger is like a fuse in an electrical circuit.
Re the carrying of a spare, it’s the sods law rule.

CNC-ed by Wheels Manufacturing and a lot sturdier and better made.

Surely having a sturdier mech hanger is an engineering oxymoron, personally I’d prefer to have a hanger which is marginally stronger than it needs to be to allow accurate shifting then break if impacted which saves the £700 frame from snapping. I’d also be inclined to buy one before it broke and carry it as a spare, thus ensuring i never needed it.

The best way to get a definite size confirmation is to measure the head tube, if it’s 145mm you’ve got a medium. It’s the way the PX builders do it if they are in any doubt.

Ton’s got it from Holmfirth but I’d be inclined to follow the canal out to Marsden then over Wessenden Head heading down the road towards Holmfirth for about a mile, then take the packhorse trail on the right which drops you down to Digley Res and to Holme village, start up Holme Moss, forking left off road to Cartworth moor and down to Dunford Bridge, scoot down the TPT and round to Langsett and then Cut Gate to the Peak. A grand day out. Decent cafe at Langsett with a Polka Dot painted wall.

I’d be ringing customer services and demanding free postage or the new one for a tenner, believe me you won’t be the first.

Just checked on the bomb site they sell stuff from and if you try the non taper carbon fork page, it actually directs you to the wrong bung under “customers also bought”!!! if you try the tapered option, there’s no link which I suppose makes the choice slightly more random. Keeps customer services in a job I suppose.

For the umpteenth time, it’s not your fault but you’d think that their all singing website would direct you to the right one this one is the one you want. You simply remove the sleeve that comes with it and bob’s your uncle.

There are lots of routes around the Garraf, your best bet is to log onto wikiloc.com where you can search trails located in the area where you are based and select the length and difficulty that suits.

I’ve got one and am in Sheffield. It has been used twice then we changed the car that it was the only option for. I got it at trade plus vat as I used to work for PX who were selling them at the time. I’d be happy to let you have it for what I paid plus courier. It’s in perfect condition. E mail me if you are interested.

I think I’ve sorted mine by elongating the slot in the speedbone bracket and putting an allen bolt and nut through the hole in the frame. The allen bolt is quite sturdy, 8mm head. Is it pedalling torque or overrun torque that is being held back by the bracket, not sure I understand why it has to be quite so beefy compared to the no turn washers on alfine hubs.

Has anyone experience of elongating the slot in the speedbone attachment piece as my frame has a conveniently located hole that I can put a peg in but it’s slightly too close to the dropout. I’ve not explained this well but would need to file the bit that attaches to the hub by about 6mm.(this explanation isn’t getting any clearer is it??)

I’m having exactly the same dilemma with a Van Nicholas Redwood frame which has rear facing slotted dropouts. I have a speedbone on the brake mounts but the gear cable arcs out over the caliper and looks poor. Ben, if you have a spare one of those OEM 1 plates that I could buy or swap with you so I could try this option. I’ve heard the torque is quite high but the dropout is about 8mm thick and made from titanium plate so hopefully it’ll be ‘reet. Could you mail me if you can help

Bartering is offering payment in some other currency than money such as goods or services, I think the word you’re looking for is negotiating. Pedant button now switched off.

The National Off Road Duathlon championships are at Sherwood Pines tomorrow, you won’t get an entry but there’s another on in about a month in Nottingham for which entries are still open. The series is organised by One Step Beyond.

I helped Colin McRae change a tyre mid stage in Keilder on the 1995 RAC Rally which enabled him to go on to win the rally by about 40 seconds and his only World Rally Championship.

Going back to Ari Vatanen’s run was a bit spooky. Just last Sunday I was out watching the Rally Cataluña up in the hills behind Tarragona, got talking to a couple of Irish guys and chatting about the old days of Pond, Arikkala, Blomqvist etc and who should walk past but Ari Vatanen. He stopped to talk and have photos with a few guys but I was too starstruck to get a photo.Bugger.
