Might be one or two GMBCers out on Sunday morning but probably a bit later – 10.30 ish. Dumgoyne Loop looks on the cards given the weather…

Andy, no the top swing mech has the pivot mechanisms and cable clamp sitting behind the seat tube and above the level of the clamp, right where the tyre clearance is at its minimum. Conventional top clamp/bottom swing mechs have all of this more to the side. This is certainly the case on all the Shimano mech’s I have to hand.

Metalheart and Stoner – thanks those pics are useful. My old non-dual-pull LX mech fits, so yes, perhaps Shimano need to revisit their design and go back to top and bottom-pull specific mechs, given the rise in popularity of 29ers? Would prob put the price of mechs up though unfortunately…

Tomaso, I’ve got an old LX 9sp mech on which works, so I’m guesing most Shimano bottom swing mechs will fit…

The fact that Brant’s on here sorting out problems and giving advice is appreciated. It’s one of the reasons I go back to On One for frames (well that and the way they ride).

I’ve calmed down now Brant :-/. This is my 3rd frame from you guys and I was just initially peeved. I’ll just have to fork out in a new top swing mech. The wife won’t be happy though.

The frame does look lovely. Really neat welds and lovely detail around the dropouts and brake mount.

Are you getting in any 120mm forks anytime soon?

Current front mech is top swing. No way will it fit. Just tried an old bottom swing mech and that fits, but only by a baw-hair. Inner cable is only just not being fouled by the tyre tread, and it’s a Racing Ralph, so not exactly a chunky tread. If I stick with it it’s a new front mech then…

The chainstays are too short! There is no room for a front mech between the tyre and the seat tube. It was sold as being triple chainset compatible. I’m using an XTR FD M970 mech and there is no way it can fit.

Not happy. I’ll be on the blower to On One in the morning.

And they’re not actually caves strictly speaking but an abandoned limestone mine. Worth a wee look though.

The headset size required quoted on the On One website is ZS44, EC50. Is this the same as ZS44, EC49? I think the lower measurement is actually 49.57mm?

Well I hit the button for one.

Any info on seat and front mech clamp diameters? Need to get my list off to Santa…

    Richie,

Which forest? If you’re talking about Lennox then I’d be interested. What about a trailquest type event? Less racy and all abilities can enter. Map skills can offset lack of fitness etc.

42:18 is perfect for my “mixed” terrain commute on a CX bike… Use a 48:18 on the single speed road bike.

I have a set on my 29er. Nice and light and never had issues with too much flex. I’d buy them again.

My Dad had it for years. It’s called Graves’ Disease. Treated by zapping the thyroid to make it underactive, and then bringing the thyroxine levels back up with medication. Dosage took a little trial and error, but once they got it right treatment was very effective.

The start of Flux, off the road to the left of the top of Rosie’s, has been destroyed but I believe if you fight your way in for a hundred yards or so, you’ll pick up the path.

6’1″ here with a 32″ inside leg and find the 19.5 with a 90mm stem fits me perfectly.

I’ve had a pair of the Superstar Wheels for just over a year now. only head to true the back wheel and regrease the freehub pawls once. i would expect to have to do at least that with any other wheels. For the money, i can’t fault ’em.

I’ve got a 2010 CdF. It’s pretty good as an all round road/commuting/light touring bike. I mainly use it for on-road stuff as a general training/winter bike and for youth hostelling or B&B weekends. It’s certainly comfy. Only grumbles I have are that it’s not what you would call lightweight, and I had to up the disc rotors from 160mm to 180mm as I wasn’t that impressed with the stopping power of the Shimano cable discs. I think in 2011 they changed to Avids, so that might’ve sorted that.

That’s a track hub so is for a frame with a 120mm dropout spacing. Most CX frames are 130mm and those for discs are usually 135mm.

If you don’t know any trails then I would think a trail centre would be your best bet – just follow the waymarkers rather than having to stop and check a map at every junction… For only 3 days, peebles and innerleithen is the obvious choice as loads of trails and facilities and only minimal travelling time from Edinburgh – so more riding time!

I think it means an offer has been accepted but the missives have yet to be concluded. The sale can fall through until then. Once missives are concluded the house is sold.

Just had exactly the same issue. Turns out a pipe to the expansion vessel was blocked so when the heating system warmed up it couldn’t expand so water vented outside and then when it went off and cooled down the pressure in the system was too low for the boiler to fire up in the morning. Works fine now the pipe’s clear.

You can check if your system is venring water by tying a plastic bag round the end of the vent pipe outside.

Mr. Plow, GMBC try to avoid the muddiest trails at this time of year. We always have. Other groups now ride the trails as well and the muddiest bits just can’t cope with this increased traffic…

XR4s are a great all round tyre. I have them as front tyres on two bikes and for year-round use they are fine but I wouldn’t recommend them for particularly muddy conditions.

I’ve had a C4GP for over 2 years – it’s the 2.0HDi Exclusive with the semi automatic gearbox. The Exclusive also has the self levelling suspension which is frankly bluddy brilliant for heavyweight family outings. The gearbox can be a bit hesitant but let’s face it, this type of car is not meant to be driven fast. We traded in a current shape Galaxy for it. OK the Galaxy was bigger but it was a complete **** donkey – the most unreiable car I have ever had. And Ford customer service was apalling. The C4GP hasn’t missed a beat and the service at Citroen (for routine servicing!) has been excellent. I would get another one.

What size you looking for? I’m considering selling my Langster (2007 model, upgraded and mint condition).

They are sized a bit bigger than older Shimano shoes. I had a 5-yr old pair of 225s that were size 43 and the 183s feel about half a size bigger.

The Land Reform Act doesn’t really deal with ‘pavements’, it’s intended for ‘open spaces’. The Outdoor Access Code states we have a right of responsible access “over most land and inland water in Scotland, including mountains, moorland, woods and forests, grassland, margins of fields in which crops are growing, paths and tracks, rivers and lochs, the coast and most parks and open spaces”. It doesn’t mention pavements or built up areas.

The OAC does state: “In some places, byelaws, management rules or other regulations may have been introduced by a local authority or other similar public body and these may affect how you can exercise access rights”.

I think that most local authorities have byelaws that do not permit cycling on pavements, although you would have to check for your area…
