I found it a bit formulaic. Gravel bike was welcome, but I didn’t make it to halfway before giving up

That’s interesting, as I found it to be quite against the norm. Mrs P has zero tolerance for formulaic action and very little tolerance for predictability in films and she loved it. It kept us guessing, and had much more suspenseful impending threat rather than just shootouts.

I felt the writers wanted to go against the grain with controlled non-lethal stuff. There was even a slow-speed car chase at the end :D

I thought season 1 was pretty ropey, with bad acting*. Season two is snowballing into a pretty gripping and epic story. I’m especially enjoying the characters/performances of Celebrimbor, Galadriel, Sauron and Dwarf King**

*The Queen (regent) of Luminor was a terrible actor in season 1, but seems fine in season 2. Her acting style is conducive to blindness it seems.

    **What a way to go

Additional votes for The Rustic Crust and the Wagon at Halam.

Limes Cafe is great, but don’t expect quaint or fancy; it’s a greasy spoon through and through, where the lady calls you ‘Love’ or ‘Duck’ as she brings you your (Richmond sausage type) breakfast cob. Perfect for after a ride at Pines, not so much for a first date.

Speaking of Pines, yes, they did do a fine sausage roll, but everything has changed lately and they seem 50% smaller yet more expensive.

All Mine (Cake by the Lake) in Maythorne (a beautiful setting and all gluten free if that’s your thing) It’s cycle friendly (ie they have racks and a pump) as its right off the old railway line trail.

Also Little Brunette Bakery in Southwell: more on the artisan side, it has limited seating but everything is delicious. It’s not open on Sundays.

Maxey’s Farm Shop on the A617 just before Hockerton is pretty good. It’s more like a posh supermarket with a large cafe.

I think “colourway” is maybe forgivable if used to mean a colour scheme or combination of colours. One colour? No.

Is it Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs?

I always imagined Booker T to be a cool, seasoned mature cat, only for my podcast to tell me that he had to quit the band to go to university after school finished!

The Saris Bones type are handy and I have yet to try a car that it hasn’t fitted. However, They are fiddly to install, they are fiddly to mount the bike, and they may well obstruct your lights/number plate. And they will interfere with the operation your rear wiper. Also, you can’t be too precious about your car bodywork.

Mine is a bit of a last resort.

I haven’t used a Seasucker, but by the looks of them, I’d wager they are quicker and less hassle than a Saris Bones

I work with furniture, and it’s amazing how many people spell it draw instead of drawer.

There are two factors as far as I can make out:

    – Many carpenters are strong on maths/spacial concepts, but weak on literacy

    – English people don’t pronounce ‘r’ so it does sound like ‘draw’.

Assuming the MMT is an accurate description of how things work, why do we think the current government have things so wrong? Has the Chancellor been indoctrinated into the false dichotomy through her education?

Surely once you get into the top spot for anyblength of time, you will see for yourself how things work?

Just as I press upload, I hear Hal on the Loop album!

In my memory Hal was all over the album, but obviously not.

So please ignore my stupidity. If anyone fancies a bit of nihilistic space rock, Heaven’s End by Loop has aged very well!

I just recieved a surprise in the post; a 12 speed chain as a runner up prize! I run 11 speed, but will pass it on to one of my riding buddies. Thanks Mark/Singletrack.

Obviously I didn’t watch the  video at the time. I’ve just watched it, and no Benji, I’m not the controversial Rhianna Ex. I think he was named after me.

What a rambling mess. “Kamala is so far left it’s unbelievable. You’ve never seen anyone so far left” and “Kamala is Marxist communist. This country isn’t ready for a communist president”.

That might wash with the hard-core MAGA demographic, but it’s the undecided in key states that he needs to convince, and surely they can see how ridiculous he’s being?

The way I see it, the government, fans of organised immigration and wanting to be seen as effective and proactive, are putting things in place to expedite the processing of legal immigrants and the “return” of illegal immigrants. The articles you posted links to mostly criticise the rhetoric leaning towards the Return Flights stuff. I can see the sense in their policy, and agree that they should be emphasising the more positive aspects, but it doesn’t read to me like they are demonising all immigrants as a whole

Thing is, if you can be bothered sitting down with a piece of paper and figuring out all the words first, it’s not hard to get 4s and 5s

No note-taking here, but I do usually work out all the words in advance.

I also got Wordle in two today (very unusual) so the day’s off to a great start! Happy Waffling Wafflers

Just for something s bit different  this is Grianan of Aileach (aka Greenan Fort) in Co Donegal. It’s my favourite as I could see it from my bedroom window when I was a kid, and we used to mess around on the terraces and climb through the long wall tunnels.

Hmmmm, I don’t mind a bit of respectful, unobtrusive cheeky route action, but this is starting to sound like next level trespass.

I’ll contact the council and hopefully the footpaths will remain, or be rerouted.

    Thanks all.

I’ve never had an issue with the button, gloved or not. And the charging is fine. The rear bracket is angled so that it sits horizontally when attached to a sloping seatpost, which is nice.

They are visible at the sides, which is great for the rear, but on the front, it’s really annoying as it’s in your field of vision. I had to paint the top half of the outside of the lens to prevent this.

My one is an older model which was post mount only, so I bought the GRX groupset, then flogged the GRX callipers and bought some Deores.

It’s my understanding that the current model has the FM adaptor included.

I’ve never understood when people say on gravel threads here that a hardtail is just as fast as a gravel bike – absolutely not IME.

Comparing a Stanton Sherpa (then a Stif Squatch) with carbon wheels and bars to the alu-wheeled A.L.I.C.E. there is a huge difference, and it’s not in the weight. It feels more spritely, and is (per Strava) faster  on smooth XC and flowy trails.

    Anyway, this thread needs pics

I’ve had one for over three years. It’s mainly my XC commuter, but is very versatile; I’ve done plenty of road and trail, had it single speed, and towing a cargo trailer. It’s by far my most-used bike.

Happy to answer any specific questions.

    Quick sanity check please:

The latest from my GB News colleague is that “apparently mobs of Muslims in parts of London are stopping cars and beating up/jostling* anyone who’s white”

I know the counter protests have been peaceful, but are there any pockets of more aggressive behaviour? I can’t see anything, even on <apologies> GB News website. I’d like to get all bases covered and facts sorted before challenging.

    * I don’t remember the exact wording, I tend to zone out during these lunchtime rants

Just an insight from the mind of the GBN-watching Farage lover (my boss)

    – Starmer is a disgrace, as the two-tier policing is massively biased in favour of the Muslims. Police are telling the Muslims to hide their weapons so that they don’t get arrested.

    – The far left counter protestors are just as violent, yet none have been arrested.

    – Soon there will be civil war, and the Muslims will be out hacking white people with machetes.

    – “They” are attempting to buy a private island in Scotland to establish Sharia Law.

I’m intrigued, I think blue leather strap and possibly a GMT?
