I bought an Exped Mira III HL a few months ago, openings on both sides with reasonable porches both sides. The cheapest place I could find was http://en.aventurenordique.com/ but for some reason the Pound appears to be worth a bit less this week.

I’ve got a couple of pairs of Old Skool. If you can find the all black ones with suede front instead of canvass, that’s what I’d go for.

A very good friend was in the RAF and worked on “crash and smash” in the 80’s/90’s. The usual stuff was picking up bits of fighter pilot from Welsh hilsides until they got called out to Lockerbie. His section removed 120 bodies from the crash site, some from trees and the ground, most by just undoing the seat belts and popping people into body bags. It’s reckoned that people were alive in their seats after they hit the ground but didn’t survive for too long. He also attended the Kegworth crash a year or so later although the body count was much lower.

KCNC do a bracket to mount ispec shifters, I bought a pair last week and wouldn’t recommend it. It’s impossible to get the shifters in anything close to a usable position, they’re either way too far left or right from the brake lever. Sell the ispec shifters and buy some with a normal mount.

Their undies are excellent, 6 inch leg for day wear, 9 inch leg under shorts at the gym. I seem to have accumulated many pairs.

I wasn’t impressed with the Alpkit self inflating mats, I could never find a comfortable setting. For car camping I use a Thermarest Neoair Dream, for lightweight an Exped Synmat. Both are air beds. I fully inflate the mat, lie on it and let air out so that I sink into it. My back isn’t great but I have no problems camping.

Definitely a DIY job. Easy to open the case with the right driver, the battery is glued in place but comes out with a plastic pry bar. A battery kit should supply the necessary tools.

Volkswagen Up (Skoda Citygo, Seat Mii). Wifey has the Seat version with the whopping 75hp engine, whilst not the quickest thing on the road it’s not a bad thing to drive.

I’ve just discovered the full series on Amazon Prime. I’m going to save the new series for a while.

Was a little like the way I imagine the moon landing to have been. People looking at any screen they could find, and glued to it.

I watched it live, an awesome feat but nothing like the moon landings.

I was six when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon. It was shown live on telly about 3am, this was a time when TV finished at midnight with the national anthem. My parents woke me up to watch it. We’d talked about nothing else at school for weeks leading up to it, everyone talked about, which is why six years olds were fascinated.

No support for Chromecast. If you try and cast from an android phone or tablet you’ll either get a phone/tablet size picture on the telly or a big square one with large bits missing from the sides.

I’m sitting on one at the moment. The firmness of the ball changes noticeably with atmospheric pressure, it’s become oval with regular use, otherwise it’s OK. I haven’t got a six pack.

It’s a remake of the Empire Strikes back with a villain that’s trying really, really hard to be like Snape from Harry Potter but failing. I stayed to end just in case there was something new, I left feeling I’d wasted time and money.

With a couple of days to reflect on it, I’m going to score it 2/10. I got dragged along to see The Lady in the Van a couple of weeks ago, that’s pretty bad but not as bad as Star Wars.

Got out of work early so thought I’d go to see it. I’d give it 5/10 at best, I wish I’d gone out for a ride instead.

Tuscany is a long way for 2-3 days riding.

I’ve been looking at it for next year. Flight from Stansted to Pisa (leave bike box in left luggage) then either cycle or train to Massa. Do the ride, train back to Pisa then fly home.

If you fancy riding in France there are sportivs all over. The French cycling federation usually lists a few http://www.ffc.fr. The Ardechoise (www.ardechoise.com) is well worth a visit.

I won’t ride sportivs in the UK. Too many badly organised events with appalling riders (taking themselves too seriously) mixed with appalling drivers doesn’t make for a good day out. Try a French one and you’ll see what I mean.

I’d take the bike you don’t mind getting covered in very fine sandy grit, probably a rigid singlespeed.

I wouldn’t call Thetford a trail centre. It’s mostly flat and very sandy pine plantation with a few marked trails. There are better trails than the marked ones but you need to know where to find them.

They’re OK for keeping very light road spray at bay, if the roads are wet, as mentioned, you’re better off with something bigger. I wouldn’t use one off road, it would be a waste of time.

They don’t fit easily on all saddles, so may need some modification with scissors. They don’t work well with seat packs. I bought one a couple of years ago, used it a couple of times and it’s now in the garage somewhere, I might even had binned it.

I’ve had a go on one those round the Decathlon store, it seemed OK. I’ve got a similar thing that does a couple of miles a day between work and the gym, you get some strange looks from people but it’s twice as quick as walking.

    Uphill is probably quicker walking.

I’ve got a GTech Multi. It needs emptying a lot and the filter needs washing a lot, I bought a spare filter (my house isn’t grubby). It’s great for doing the car and small jobs around the house, I use a plug in vacuum for the floors.

I’m very tempted. It would be my first cx bike and was just wondering how they tend to size up. I’m 6ft-ish (maybe 6ft1) and the marin sizing chart says I would be suited to either the 56 or the 58cm. My MTBs are size large/19in and road bike is 57cm. Would the 56cm be the best size for me – is it normally better to size-down for a cx bike anyway?

It depends on frame geometry. For example something like a Ridley usually has a high bottom bracket so you’d go down a size just to get your leg over it, but then the top tube can be too short so you use a long stem to compensate and the bikes steering gets a bit slow. Personally I wouldn’t buy a CX bike without sitting on it first.

No, MotoGP is only available if you pay for it.

The only reason I went for BT Sport Lite is that it seems impossible to cancel BT Sport online but it it’s easy to downgrade.

I only watch MotoGP but it isn’t worth £5 a month to me. There is a product called BT Sport Lite which is free. I down graded to this, takes a couple of minutes online to do it.

The new Bonneville’s are nice. I took one for a test ride and at 6 feet tall found it a bit small, it needed the foot pegs moving and a different bar shape to make it comfortable for me. I think if I was going to do a street tracker I’d also consider the Kawasaki W650 and Yamaha XS650 if I wanted something a bit “classic”. They’ve got kick starters.

Always check bottom bracket height when looking at CX bikes.

For example, the Ridley that was linked on the first page. This might not apply to the new ones but the older (canti) ones had high bottom brackets. The knock on effect was to make the bike very tall, tall enough that you needed to buy a size down, which meant a shorter top tube and longer stem to get the thing to fit correctly.

Another thing I read was that the lion was head of a pride. Now another male will move in and in doing so will kill all the cubs in the pride. So not just one lion killed, he killed kittens!!!!

Sadly it seems that this man has done nothing illegal.

From what I’ve read I think this one was barely legal, some of the other stuff he’s killed seems to be protected species which definitely isn’t. Legal or not there are a lot of people that see big game hunting as something very wrong, particularly when it involves wounding the animal and taking two days to find it to kill it with a rifle.

And the new Scott Addict CX…

I saw one of these at a Scott sponsored event a couple of weeks ago. It’s very, very nice but at £5k a bit spendy.

I reckon I’ve got the perfect canti setup. TRP canti’s with travel agents, Kool Stop salmon pads and decent cables. It’s still crap but it’s the best setup I’ve used.
