Great rack…. superb build quality…..carries 2X29ers virtually every time I drive to a ride (one seat dropped)….great feature that it hinges away easily with 2 x bikes on it……if your driving a 4×4 or similar with electrically operated tailgate just don’t make the mistake of opening with rack upright ;-)

Ok so we’re getting close now (9th April)getting excited!!!! I’m normally a Lycra clad mincer and am planning trying the usual as above Llandegla, Marin, Penmachno , CYB, maybe Antur and contemplating my need for a bit if armour…….should I get some knee pads???? …..what’s best/easiest to wear ???? apart from that I have a trail helmet(will I die) and a Tallboy LTC

Sorry waffling now, issue is do I need knee pads and which are best light ish options??

The rotors are whatever comes with XTR………our LBS’s top man is the only on I let touch my bikes…he maintains our island MTB champ’s bikes (Elliot Baxter…probably not as famous as we think he is) I am crap so can’t/don’t/won’t touch my own brakes….I do sometimes get the burning smell but we have some gnarly long descents to cope with any everybody’s brakes smell…I am however thinking along these lines a bit now…..don’t know how to change things .on..shitty rocky hills i need to control speed…

Anyway Magura MT8s on the Carbine to come..????

I’ve just replaced my Bonty mud x on the front of my Tallboy LTC with a Toro 2.35….really like it….still got mud x on back and it works a treat…….new bike (carbine) will have toro 2.35 front and toro 2.15 rear….think that’ll do it just fine

Think I’m getting it now….. this shim thing sits up top of the skinny steerer and allows you to fit a normal stem…..is that it??

    pipiom

I know I’m crap but do I measure the internal bore of the hole that the stem goes in?

Never met the guy but he’s been helping me ( and others) with my proposed next bike build (carbine 29) always gave good advice based on facts and experience (light bicycle wheels etc etc) no “you must buy this cos I did” input at all.

He’ll be sadly missed….big love to his family

Oops, I think you’re right there M ..black it is then…..on the spec front took a load of yours and others advice 1 x 11 + RF Next SL etc but I opted for taking this bike to a light XC fit out that will be aggressive enough for this old fart when needed cos that’s what I/We do here…….ha! HD/XC the new “Mini Enduro” so AC race 29 wheels with Spesh control front and captain back (wheels are 1450g so good weight)

I’ll post exact spec when ordered

    Cheers

Ok i know i must be doing heads in now but i’m on holiday with time on my hands….i’m simply using this time to build this bike in my head….so here we go…American Classic MTB race 29 wheelset weighs 1459g….. my LBS can supply em and they don’t have to be built…..I know a few of our crew have them and love em….they’re not massive but wider than SLR’s and surely capable of taking the Toros at 2.35

Any experience of these hoops ( tin hat is on)
