    Afternoon everyone,

I know this isn’t a cool thing to advertise, if you’re unfortunate enough to need one, but does anyone have photos of their “pride and joy” with a stem extender fitted, please?

Not suitable, unfortunately. I’ve settled for a dork stem extender. Cheap option for 3 x E-MTB

It’s blatantly obvious that I’m going to need a much higher rise bar. Probably 100mm.

I’ve now had a few short rides, and definitely can’t stay with the 40mm Renthals.

Has anyone got any experience/info. regarding these, please?

I have 35mm clamps on my stems. How adaptable would these be?

keen to do this asap so I don’t do damage by trying to stretch my neck up where it doesn’t want to go.

Just thought I’d send a little update to, once again, show my appreciation for all your  encouraging posts:

    6 week review next Thursday;

    I’ve pretty much ditched the walking pole, and have managed up to 1 1/2 miles including some quite steep hills;

    I’m still sofa bound for a good portion of most days, and still doing all the simple exercises;

    just starting to wean myself off the Cocodamol, and revert back to Paracetamol (be gone constipation 💩💩);

hopefully my surgeon will allow me to, at least ride the static bike again.

hopefully, this is me on track to mimic all of your experiences guys, and my return to MTB comes one step closer.

    thanks again, guys

    Many thanks for this, Robertajobb

it really helps, while I’m lying, pretty uncomfortably, on the sofa, feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Operation was 2 weeks last Friday ago.

Apparently all a success, and lots of screws/rods were put in.

still on maximum opioid painkillers, and still not capable of much (short walks and exercises that the Physio gave me)

first review back over in London on 6th June (6weeks post op) and I guess my future will be made clearer then)

Can we post photos directly on here now, guys?

I could put you all off your lunch with some great scar shots.

All of the above comments have helped, and are still helping, me get my head around it all.

    cheers

    Well guys,

Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy is the correct terminology….all due to massive doses of Radiotherapy/Chemo 19 years ago.

    CT/X-Ray/MRI done….yesterday/today

Major Operation required, but all sorts of “meetings” needed because of severity, and my cervical vertebrae being “mashed potato” due to Chemo/RT.

They’ve got to find a way of removing the compressed vertebrae, and then fusing, securely, what’s left.

Has anyone experienced spinal surgery with the added complication of Osteoporosis due to Radiotherapy?

Confined to sofa for some time, I fear

    ☹️

    CERVICAL MYELOPATHY

Cervical myelopathy results from compression of the spinal cord in the neck (cervical area of the spine).

Symptoms of cervical myelopathy may include problems with fine motor skills, pain or stiffness in the neck, loss of balance, and trouble walking.

Cervical myelopathy is best treated with spine decompression surgery.

I’d, appreciate any help with this one, please.

    Thanks guys.
Mines down to lots of radiotherapy to rid me of a huge throat tumour in 2005.

the 3/4 vertebrae, that were at the central point of the beam,  have severe osteoporosis, and are compacting onto my Spinal Cord.

staggering about like I’m pi$$ed a lot of the time, and grip is quite shonky as well.
    cheers again

Cheers for the ideas guys, but a combination of deteriorating health and age, means I’m just out for somewhere to solo bimble.

Apologies for not explaining myself adequately.

I’ve only hired a coil sprung hardtail for 3 days, and a couple of hours max each day is what I’m after.

I’ve done the guided day tours before in Tenerife, and they’re awesome, but I’d just not make it now.

I’m hoping to just ride up to Pizza Originale area, and try to find something off-road. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas to help.

Good info about the fines btw. Are the prohibited trails signposted?

It was brilliant Jamesmio. Thank you, and thank you all gor your help/advice. If I could find out how to put photos on, I might bore you all with a few 🤷🏻

And yes, those vans were us.

Can we add photos directly nowadays? Or, do we still have to use some sort of app related sorcery?

I’m probably letting myself in for a load of tightar$e related abuse here, but here we go (I have some Yorkshire in me):

I’ve received the Tannus (tubed) kit, and thinking I had a load of 27.5 tubes to suit, have just found out that they’re all the slightly larger ones (2.2-2.8 or something like)

has anyone had any success fitting these tubes?

A trip to one of our LBS will have cancelling the install for a few more days.

This has all really helped me grasp the Tannus concept. Especially the link “Kaiser”

Good idea re the FatBike “Mudfish” I may try that also as I’m struggling to get her tubeless.

As I already have the tubed Tannus on the way, I think I’ll try it with some sealant in the tube, and if I have any issues, I’ll transfer it to the front, and order tubeless for the rear.

thanks for all the help/advice guys. I’ll let you know how I get on.

    Does Tannus tubeless need Stans?
Or, is there any benefit in using it?

    pipiom

Good to know, but it’s on the way, so I’ll try the tubes first.

I’ve gone for Tannus, purely for the all round protection. Apparently, it needs a tube as well.

I know what size is required for

    27.5  x  2.5” – 3”

but, are they just standard tubes??

is there any extra benefit in putting Stans in the tube??

promise I’ll be gone after this 🤦‍♂️

Just this week, one of our mates, who’s a SPD sandal wearer in summer, fell off,  slipped out of his cleat, and the sandal folded onto its side, allowing his foot and ankle to slide down behind the crank.
E-Bike, so the motor carried on rotating for a few seconds wedging him good and proper.

Thankfully, there were four of us to lift him and the bike and eventually release him by slowly rotating the wheel.

    Much scraping and bruising occurred.

if I needed any putting off, which I didn’t, this was it.

It’s mainly some overall puncture protection that I’m after.

The 650b+ tyres always are a little squirmier than your usual 29er etc. and the rears seem to be a little more  prone to damage.

I had the original Santa Cruz Hightower, and had a similar issue with that.

    I hadn’t heard of Cushcore/Tannus back then.

Tannus does seem to provide some all round cover, but I’d just like some, real world, advice.

Many thank Trekster. We’ll be riding Sat, Sun, Mon, and there are 18 of us, so I’ll just take them all to the trail centres, so that they can all have a bash at something together.

it’s all about the ride, the cafes, the bike shops, and of course Maibie House bar.

I’ve been organising these for about 12/13 years, and this’ll be the last big one, so armed with what you guys have provided, we should be able to make it a good one.

what do you guys think of this:

    Day 3 Maibie am

One last question please guys. I’ve got the two full days sorted, but on our final day, some will want the full day’s riding, but some the morning will do.

if we did, say Maibie on the morning, some could relax in the afternoon, but others will jump in the van and go somewhere for a last hour or two.

where is the best place for that last few hours, for those that want it?

This is brilliant, thanks guys. I can definitely plan our 3 days from all this.

I’m almost 68 and not in good health, so took the plunge 2 years ago.
I resented the change, and felt like I was cheating myself, until I realised that I wasn’t as physically destroyed after each ride, and recovered better.
I was striving to ride in Eco and Off modes to make myself feel better.
Once I realised what I bought the bike(s) for, I started to enjoy it immensely.
Don’t be scared to use all modes depending upon how you feel.
    Good luck

Hope this succeeds. Here before you: Cobalt/Orange Specialized Turbo Levo, utter tartery, I agree, but it’s my thing, so hwy-ho.
Front is a Hope 2.3mm 220mm rotor. Rear, same but 200mm (same width was stock SRAM, but slightly wider) just rubbed on the frame.
All I’m looking to do is replace the rear rotor with an orange one. Uberbike do them, but they’re 203mm not 200mm.
That’s my task. I know all about the “muppetry” etc involved in my decisions, but there it is.

    pipiom

The 220 is on the front (somebody asked) I have photos, but don’t have a clue how to put them on here.
All I’m trying to do is replace a 200 on the rear, but can’t get one in orange, hence 203 or 180

    pipiom

It’s designed for a 200mm, and currently has one fitted.

My first pair of new rotors, yes Orange, yes I’m an old tart, were Hope. They are 2.3 mm wide/thick and when my LBS tried to fit them, they rubbed on the frame (stock SRAM Centreline are 1.7ish and tight as)

So, am I to assume it’s just a case of adding any old washer that adjusts the gap.

That’s why I went for ordering L & M. Pretty sure they have free returns within 30 days, if not that’s fine. At least I’ll have given them a go, and won’t have any more time riding without them.

I’ve ordered 2 pairs of the Royal Storm from Stif (£74.99): 1 in Medium and the other in large.
As soon as they’ve arrived, and they’ve had their baptism of Manx slop, I’ll report back.
Many thanks for all your help.

I’ve just ordered Large and Medium in these. At this price, I can send one pair back, and still have a good deal IMHO

Looking at them, they look very tight at the bottom. I normally wear gaiters in the slop; I’m guessing they’d have to be worn outside. No zips/openings at the lower leg?
