Ditto the above. If you aren’t likely to use it again then you may as well just hire quality gear 🤷

If the jacket was £220 RRP, I doubt very much that was the purchase price either, so probably looking at circa £160 for 8 years of usage and £20 (if all carriage costs included) to fix it and to keep it useable…

Sometimes you have to be a little realistic with your expectation

Have you contacted them to see what they will offer you on a new jacket from their Factory Outlet? They might be offering you a replacement for only a few pounds more than the repair

    Ok cheers again guy’s.

I wont mock the BB7’s until I have tried some off road. Having tried some on a commuter (admittedly with small discs) I just didnt feel that they would scale up well to some hard off road riding on challenging terrain with the kind of modulation and feel that I expect from a decent hydraulic. But hey I havent found a decent hydaulic at the moment so what do I know LOL. And Im not saying Im some crazed demon downhiller but the terrain and conditions vary so much in the Peak that you need a decent reliable all rounder wih plenty of power. In some ways even more so the fact that I ride a long travel hardtail.

Anyway pretty sure I have decided on the Hopes or then again the Magura MT6 if feeling brave. Will happily resurect this thread with my verdict as and when I get sorted.

    Ta all really appreciated

If anyone would like to come for a ride around the Peaks with some BB7’s I will gladly take you out. But Im not picking you up off the floor.

Sell the Elixirs, buy something else…

Organics last around 20 miles in gritty conditions in my experience, sintered will last a month or longer

Ask the folk who work/have worked in a bike shop what make is the most reliable…..

They said Hope or Magura, but they did have a set of Hopes looking for a home so thought I would ask yu guys as well 😀

Hope feedback is looking good however. What are the levers like, size/shape/adjustment/compatibility with XO shifters? They worry me a little..

Cheers guy’s some really useful comments there concerning spares/reliability etc.

I will ignore the XC/Freeride comments as cant work out if they are serious or not LOL and is probably a debate for a different topic.

I definitely dont think BB7’s are going to cut it with the kind of riding I do however… Jon I think I remember reading a while back that you do quite a lot of the same riding I do around the Cromford area, so not much legal straight line stuff 😉

Really like to give the new Shimano brakes a go, but it seems a bit wrong running them with Sram gear(OCD!lol)and Im not 100% sure about the quality for the price. £400 for some XTR’s is a lot of wedge to find out Im wrong. So Hopes with a M4 up front and X2 rear is possible or Marta SL Mag, or willing to try new MT6 if I can get a decent deal off a mate in trade. Dont suppose anyone has actually ridden on the new MT’s for any mileage yet?

Cheers guy’s keep em coming. When I say Freeride Im probably talking hard cross crountry ie fast downhill in Peak District odd metre drop small jumps etc. Was Freeride to me 20 years ago 😀
Think my biggest bug bear with brakes is piston creep and rubbing brakes and squishy levers.

Did think sheep might be coming to BR what with all the fencing going on. Cows though! :S

Ah well sure we can all live together in peace and harmony. Not sure how I would feel if I was the cow though. Wouldnt really appreciate a cow rippin it through my lounge…..

    Well sounds pretty impossible! LOL

I would be binning any aluminium or carbon parts, forks, frame, bars stem, seatpost etc…..

Same thing happened to a mate of mine but off the rear of the car. He was telling me how lucky he had been. Got to some traffic lights, we stopped and his bars snapped in half. Pretty luck considering we had been doing 40mph downhill moments before.

Doesnt help that because of the stenuous nature of MTBing most mountain bikers probably only get out for 20 miles or so often at a high heart rate. Not very good for fat burning but good for building a bit of muscle (which appears to beef you up even more) If you are roadie you get out for 4-6 hours at least and do 50 miles plus, most of it at a steady rate suitable for burning fat more readily.
Plus it has to be a bit of a lifestyle thing as well. Most roadies i know dont drink, watch the rubbish food intake and have early nights! Mtbers (myself included)like a drink, like a packet of pork scratchings…… Roadies get their kicks from the endorphins inspiring them to go harder for longer, most mtbers get their kicks from adrenelin where you just need a big pair of bollox and the extra ballast doesnt really effect that too much 😀

Well it would be a terrible shame if your bike got stolen a month before your cycle to work scheme ran out. I guess 25% of nothing is nothing and of no taxable benefit whatsoever…. 😉

Parcel force are actually VERY good.

I think that you will find that 48 hour delivery will not mean delivery on a Saturday. You will see your parcel on Monday. Perhaps you should have done some research before choosing the cheap ass postage option 😉

Unless you have anti-freeze in your viens, imagine for one moment the difference between "comfort" at + 2 degrees and even -4. Then contemplate minus 20 degrees, in a bag that light.
I think you'd be long gone by then!
Have many of us even been in conditions of -10 or under?
That's what it was on top of Kili before dawn, likewise at the climbing hut below Mt Kenya's 2x summits.

Don't get me wrong, I love Rab kit, I have an Atlas 600, but these sorts of figures are just rubbish.

EDIT: Just look at that! -10.6 FFS how stupid and misleading is that! Is that when the crash test dummy shattered? Point anything of a degree is indicative of some stupid figure plucked out of thin air by some 1/2 baked marketing dept.

Where do you get -10.6 from?

All of the new RAB bags are EN tested so I doubt any figures are 'plucked out of the air'. Thats the way the EN rating system works comfort, limit and extreme ie minimum temp before death!

EN ratings certainly arent the be all and end all when choosing a bag,(a really good mat would be a good start as well and knowing how cold you sleep) but at least there is an industry standard now so that people can no longer pluck figures out of the sky! 🙂

I have same problem with my rear one. Was also like it from new.

Constant bubbling sound from lever (ie squelchy sound) when you pull on it. Constant drag by pads on disc no matter how they are adjusted. Also original pads lasted 10 miles in the wet. Replaced with originals and they lasted 20 miles or two thirds around Dalby. Put sintered pads in now but they squeal to high heaven and i get the vibrating issue that feels like it is going to rip the rear triangle from my Soda.
Bled 4 times now but still no joy.
Have emailed Fishers but had no reply.
Going to ring them and then send it back.
    I have Mag CR's

    Both types of valve yes.

I dont doubt they wont last that long. But at under £5 (you can get them for less than £3) just get more! Same with the batteries. Not worth buying 6 replacements when you can just buy more lights. Not great for the environment but…..

As bright as my Exposure Maxx D but not as good a beam spread. For £50 they are AWESOME though, best value cycling accessory I have ever had the pleasure of seeing/using.

Seem to be taking 4 weeks to be delivered at the moment. Although that may be partly down to our postal strike…

You are going to be looking at only 1250ish anyway.

So as already said sell hard top (ideal time of year to sell) and then put the car on ebay. Probably get almost a grand. No point spending any money on paint IMO.

If he is a mate then he will obviously know if you are likely to swing both ways or NOT!

So I would tell him to **** off and if he still wants to be mates he should keep his hands to himself! 😀

Tricky one. Not sure I would want to go up against JE James despite their many faults.

Nottingham always seems hit and miss for bike shops as does Derby! So that would just leave Leicester that I know nothing about. Apart from it doesnt seem to be able to support any quality outdoor shops (industry that I am in)

Thinking about it i really wouldnt want to suggest anywhere in the mids…

You are lucky! Just been told i owe £300! I rang them to say I pay by direct debit so how can i owe them when i have been paying them automatically. To be told that my usage has gone up and it is not for them to change the direct debit amount!? I said well it should be, to which I was told that it would be far too much work….. So much for automation!

He was cursing the old bloke in the bike shop that had wrongly sold him std pads rather than sintered. Doesnt look like he would have faired much better tho LOL

Because I do bike most places I can afford to have a rediculous 3.0L V6 engined small coupe.

Plus it is incredibly good looking and sounds like a bear with its nads caught in a door….
