Yeah there are crap cyclists. But given the years of experience of driving many people have had how would we rate the standard of driving. Personally I see some terrible driving but what gets me is when the conditions are pretty grim either weather or traffic you still see people being stupid pulling ridiculous stunts.

Really saddens me when I read these things. Not only for the poor guy but the trauma to his family, the not knowing and then if when what the longer term prognosis may be.

The Pingu household has done far too much praying for speedy recoveries of late, with our own family and friends, something needs changing for cyclists. Our thoughts will be with his family and friends along with our hopes for a speedy and complete recovery,

The RF signal will reflect off the metallic surface. Your signal would be crap behind that as most of the signal is being pushed in one direction. Interesting that it works as well as it appears to from what you say as you will have a lot of multipath and it is just as likely, if not more so that you might get a poorer signal due a sub optimal antenna deployment.

    Amazed at all the sleuthing.

Sad news indeed that someone’s dad, husband, lover, uncle, brother has passed away in tragic circumstances, albeit doing something he enjoyed.

Hope the police manage to tie it all together for the peace of mind of the loved ones he has left behind.

Jimbo hope your mate is OK. Far too many drivers cut corners but that is shocking. Lucky escape and hope he heals well and soon.

    26″ wheel ss, not 29 I’m afraid

It was probably the beard and the fact that they thought if you had been on a 29er you would have just rolled through it so it was your own fault!!

Actually it is pretty grim especially the fact you were obviously not in the best shape ie just stopped fixing a puncture but covered in sh1t and bloodied. Don’t let things like this prejudice you though. I think 9 times out of 10 people don’t need help but it makes you feel good that at least you offer.

Strava, if your on a KOM or PB you don’t stop.

In reality even if there were a group with one in difficulty I always ask if they have everything they need as I carry pretty much everything except a kitchen sink as I am paranoid about getting stranded miles away.

Be pretty p’d off if I were you but glad your OK. I would have sorted your tyre while you sorted yourself out mate.

Some interesting comments from our being genetically predisposed to act like a tribe, actually never considered that. I also agree that I have problems with people I have problems with and their culture never has anything to do with it, there are idiots in all cultures.

I guess like many things if we over analyse we can find fault in everything and occasionally, or often the media and PC try to portray things as black or white with no in between or context.

We do differentiate though based on culture, sex, sexual orientation, religion throughout our culture and media, often descriptively such as the guy in the turban above. From “the Femail” pages in the Daily Fail to BBC Asian Network. I just find it difficult if we create these artificial boundaries and highlight differences that we are not allowed to differentiate and we then start treading on eggshells.

Humour is the most dangerous platform perhaps but its still amusing to observe differences but many see it as racist. Are we getting too uptight about all of this, has PC gone too far?

I firmly believe we should all live happily with each other and embrace diversity for everything good it brings but the minute someone says anything untoward that has the remotest possibility of being misunderstood they are immediately branded racist or sexist etc.

Certainly not a guilt complex and I feel it can be a grey area with sliding scales. Just that when someone writes these things you would hope that it didn’t come down to what white people say about other cultures rather about how different culture talk of one another.

If I was for example to dislike the French, they’re white so that’s ok it’s not racist, similarly the Irish? But I wouldn’t be allowed to dislike Nigerians or Indians.

Mods reading Brakes post it was not my intention to bring negativity etc but I can see where you are coming from Brakes. Naive of me in here! 🙁

I was a serial monogamist and went from relationship to relationship. I had a really bad split and realised I didn’t know who I was. It took me a long tome to learn who I was and like who I was as well as throwing myself into my career. Grieving over the relationship is natural so don’t rush into a new one. Stay off anything that you may feel will help you, alcohol, drugs. Occupy your time, work, gym, ride.

Toilet training or any training is relatively easy as long as your message is consistent. As its young give it somewhere to go, newspaper. When it has been or if you see it needs to go take it outside. Always take it outside about 15 minutes after its dinner so it can relieve itself.

Just be consistent with anything you do. Get it socialised with everything, buses, loud noises, take it the shops, meet people, go to classes. Introduce it to as much of the world as possible.

Someone will be along to point out there are no such things as accidents!

Glad everyone is ok and you had the stones to pull over and apologies and come on here to say you made a mistake. Whatever the cause mistakes and accidents do happen. It is not always because someone is driving like a c0ck.

Definitely sense stuff. They know when I am due home even though I don’t keep regular hours, they get excited 10 mins before I get home so couldn’t possibly hear the car etc.

One of mine goes to bed at exactly 1030 every night, just disappears t his basket and that’s the last you see of him. He has started getting up at 530 though which is a pain in the aris.

Well it looks like interest rates could be pretty static for 12 to 18 months. Need to make a jump sometime as its pointless sat in a bank at the current rates of interest.

Thanks Rebel yes I am sure in a perfect Utopian society that would work unfortunately this is the real world and I am trying to provide the best future for my family. I trust you as philanthropic as you would like the BTL sheep to be? Not sure any of your advice was helpful so not sure why you bothered ?

Hmm building a property potentially has higher risks and ties up cash in the event that a single property did not sell after completion. I have not thought about housing developement though. Also I do spend a fair bit of time in London in an average year, not a lot in 2013 or looking like much for 2014 at present.

@alanl – I thought a cooker required an isolator within 2m. Obviously refering to a hob above you don’t so an FCU is ok.

No indication of whether it is serious or not yet. Didn’t like the guy as a driver but he does seem likeable as a person after he retired. Hope he is OK.

    Gutted for you mate.

I know that I should hopefully outlast my two beautiful dogs. Definitely will be in floods of tears when I have to make that call.

Got dumped once on boxing day! So couldn’t take gifts back and didn’t take it well but I was a lot younger then.

See if you can swap her presents to buy her a spine or a turd in a box!

Very poor form on her part but your probably better out of it mate and sounds like your handling it.

Hope you have a great 2014 and meet someone special when you are ready.

I love my dogs and would do exactly the same even though it would be a massive struggle with the big guy as he is 9 stone. In the cold light of day however and everyone being risk averse its very easy to recommend not to do something. Stupid as its only a dog, yes. Stupid as you could have died, definitely. But your both here fit and well to tell your tale so a great outcome and well done.

    Journalist.

    Cycling in exotic location.

    Fly emirates.

Can’t be arsed checking how bikes are charged.

Really can’t find it in me to be sympathetic despite the time of year.

Pretty good Christmas as I wasn’t running around like a lunatic before the break. Had to work boxing day and busy supporting a contract but as cr500dom above nice not to have the enforced holiday where I don’t earn.

Have to agree with loddrick, knowing those areas, Anfield Walton, Croxteth, Fazakerley, Kirkby, Noris Green. I think its a standard letter they send to everyone.

Lost my mum several years ago but still hurts around this time of year. I guess it’s a time for remembering. Met my OH when she lost her mum, supporting her as a friend who had been through similar and she respects that I loved my mum a great deal and sometimes it gets difficult for me. Pretty sure I will have a few tears in my eyes over the holiday.

Having a moment now thinking about my mum writing this.

It’s good to remember those we love.

Day went amazingly well, OH enjoyed herself which t me is the most important. Her sister left without getting bladdered but was still maudlin. Could have been so much worse but I have to work today, first time ever on Boxing Day but no great shakes as H is working all day.

All mine are excellent but went to GFs daughters to see grandson and her idiot semi estranged partner was proudly wearing his onesie. What has been seem cannot be unseen, I fear the therapy may be expensive. (Therapy for my traumatised mind not his warped taste).

Just been for traditional Xmas day lunchtime beer with mates and got home to discover OH has invited alcoholic sister to dinner . Now had to hide beer as she would not leave until it is all gone.

I will now have to endure endless inane conversations and my fantastic GF trying to keep me from relaying the patio until she is gone.

I was in our local beer garden with my dogs when a bull terrier type attacked a chocolate lab. The bull terrier would not let go and left a real bad puncture wound. To my shame I did nothing as my GF wouldn’t let me get involved. It took several minutes to separate the dogs. The owners squared up to everyone and then left.

I wouldn’t pick up as if a dog is going to attack my thoughts are you would also be getting attacked, I see this picking up small dogs a lot even when mine are on a lead.

If a shout does’t work, then the boot. If all else fails grab from behind and stick your fingers in its eyes or split its legs. Anything pointy will work as well. I am not condoning any harm to an animal and would rather inflict injuries on the owner for not training their animal properly and socialising and hope nobody ever finds themseleves in such a desperate situation.

Watched Man of Steel last night, quite good but I think it could be 15 minutes shorter, we get it, they fight a lot. Really liked Hunger Games.

Bit of a cock up cutting to him before they announced it. Good job personality doesn’t actually play a part.

Even though I don’t like tennis he has been in the public eye for a very long time which will always help. I actually thought Farrah would get it it.
