New bike… Parts changing might make sense but give it some time too, you’ve got to learn the bike.

+1. What bike did you have previously? It could be that you’re used to having to push the front end into things (not always a conscious decision, once you know the bike) and this new bike responds differently to that kind of riding style.

Give it more than 1 ride before you start messing around with it too much 🙂

If you get the 2014 SB95, it’ll have a carbon back end for the same price as the 2013 version was last year. Brucey Bonus! 😀

+1 for Freeride Morocco. I went out with them last september, and it was brilliant.

Don’t expect 1st class accommodation- it is very basic, but that’s reflected in the price.
Oh, and make sure to take up the offer of the Hammam on the 3rd night (i think) It’s f**king brilliant.

Supacaz, if only because you get to watch the instructional installation video 🙂
YouTube it and thank me later.

Yeah, just bare in mind that the geometry on Yetis doesn’t make sense on paper. A small technically has an 18″ seattube, which really doesn’t make sense, but overall it fits. I genuinely reckon a large would be better for you.
Try your local dealer, as quite a few of em are advertising 2013 frames on clearance. At least then you’d get a chance to have a look at one in the flesh.

I don’t think anythings changed geo wise. However, I’m 5ft 8″ and ride a medium, and it fits perfectly. I used to ride a small with a 90mm stem, but changed to a medium, and now run it with a 60mm.
If you’re 6ft though, I’d have thought a medium would be way too small for you.

If you have an ASR5 and are wanting to run a tapered fork, you won’t be able to use a zerostack lower cup. The ID of the headtube is 49mm, meaning you have to use an external cup for tapered forks. If you want to run zero stack, you’d have to run a 1 1/8th fork.
I speak from experience because I’ve run both setups in the past.

    Cheers!

Loads. The 2014 version has a carbon swingarm, is 142×12 as standard, comes with a CTDA shock, and weighs about 1.8lbs less.

Assuming you’re looking at one of the ones on CRC? You’d be better off looking around the Yeti dealers in the uk, as there were recently really good deals to be had on 2013 frames. I’m pretty sure wheelbase had some 2013 frames with the better shock for less than those old ones on CRC.

Nativity Play when I was in Primary 1 (around 1990) and I was to play one of the wise men. Our school had a real lack of ethnic diversity, and since there was no way that all 3 wise men would have been white in the original story, a few of the teachers thought it would be really progressive, and forward thinking, to get one of the kids blacked up!

So, we ended up with two confused looking wise men and a golliwog! (like off old marmalade jars)

What’s truly amazing is that nobody was outraged.

Basecamp Bikes in Grantown on Spey would be a good place to start, as they stock Yeti, amongst others. I’m sure they’d be happy to hook you up with a test ride on a couple of bikes.
I think they also do Turner, so you could look at a Burner while you’re at it 😉

Where abouts are you based? There are a handful of Evil dealers dotted around the country, who may be able to hook you up with a test ride.

Have you tried any of these bikes? That’d be the best way to find out which one is best for you.

Heisenberg, what would make the nukeproof better than the above frames/fully built bikes?

    He’s probably got one.

The new 575’s are due to land next month, I believe. My LBS has one on order.
Give the distro a ring, as they might be able to tell you who’s got one on order in your area.

Try emailing the distributors of the brands. They’ll be able to recommend a shop/demo day etc…

Bloody hell! You must really have gone to town on it, to be able to knacker the thread on a turbine crank- they’re tough as nails!

Which side is it you’ve killed? If it’s the right hand side, you might be able to find a spare crankarm, as it’s just a standard turbine arm. If it’s the left, you might be a bit scuppered, as the 100mm bb version are a bit like hens’ teeth.

The Atlas 50mm stem looks badass, and it’s not exactly heavy! Could be worth a look?
I’ve got a 60mm turbine at the moment, but gonna change it for an Atlas. If you’d be interested in the 60mm turbine, let me know 🙂

    @Deanfbm:
Have you contacted Silverfish about a crash replacement price on the front end?

IIRC the back end is the same on all the models, so if you wanted to get a medium front end, I’m sure they’d hook you up.
You’re saying that the reason for sale is that it’s too short, why not try and do that?

Damn sight easier to sell a medium than a small anyway, when the time comes to move it on…

Had an ASR-5. Loved it, but sold it for more travel. Regretted it. Sold long travel bike. Bought another ASR-5 today.

    100% recommended- an incredible bike!

I’ve been thinking the same thing, though maybe not for racing. I’ve got all the parts I need to build one, just need a frameset. What’s the general opinion of a Pompino frame & fork? Worth plumping for something a little better?

Reverb. I was always cynical about them, but now that I’ve used one, I doubt I’ll go back. They’re great!

They’ll be a hit here, I’d have thought, as you can get em in 100mm width for fatbikes!

Catvet- Yeti are keeping the SB66, and they have launched a new sb75.

There are still plenty of options for 26″!

STWer makes up his mind about a bike without actually riding one shocker

Fellow member in “deciding that said STWer hasn’t ridden one, without actually bothering to find out” shocker 😉

I have ridden one actually, if you’d like to know. However I feel that for the riding I do, and what most people do (typical mtb trail riding) there is no functional advantage to one over a conventional MTB. I certainly wouldn’t take the plunge and have a fatbike as my only bike, so there would really have to be some specific need to make me buy one (such as consistent heavy snow every winter)

As far as I can tell from the videos I’ve seen of them, they’re designed for carrying overweight, middle aged men, across beaches slowly.

If you live in somewhere which regularly gets a lot of snow then yeah, they make total sense. Over here though… 😕

Don’t get me wrong, if I won the lottery, I’d probably have one (in addition to the dozens of other bikes I’d have.) However until that happens, I really couldn’t justify one myself.

Gaffer tape your pump to your seatpost, and a tube under the top tube somewhere. Problem solved!

I’ve got a set in a DH bike which I put in about 6 months ago, and they’re still fine. As above, it definitely seems to be hit and miss with them.
Everyone I’ve heard of who’s had them fail has been able to get a refund or replacement under warranty though.

It’s a shame, as the idea’s really good, and if they can pull it off consistently then they’ll be brilliant- just needs some QC issues addressing first.

Could be something really simple and stupid. Have you checked the derailleur hanger? Take it off, clean the two faces which meet, pop a little bit of grease on and tighten back up. You’d be amazed how common that is.
A colleague of mine was convinced his frame/cranks/bb/wheels were all f**ked as he had an annoying creak and couldn’t find it anywhere. Turns out it was the derailleur hanger.

a bike shop near me is getting a load of them in today. They’re the first drop in the UK, so there’s not going to be any reviews for a wee while yet.
A buddy of mine has got one on order from said shop, and I am suitably jealous…

This was just a post to put something out there to see what was available as she was interested in getting a new hardtail, partly caused by me occidentally buying one of the last Yeti ARC frames at Easter and then building it up recently

There are still a few of the older ARC frames kicking about. Silverfish still have 1 each of the small and XS. http://www.silverfish-uk.com/ProductDetail/0/7260/Arc-Frame
