    I love this thread already.

Kettle's on if anyone wants one…

Unfortunately only M&S Italian blend, but I'm getting plenty of ideas reading the above.

Cheers guys. Finally got a £20 option on DHL, after a lot of hunting and form filling. Next time I think I'll specify that I don't send outside the UK.

Thetters would be my suggestion, followed by Tunstall near Ipswich and Danbury for some hillier and jumpier stuff.

I was coherent enough to type without too many errors, so wasn't 'drunk' in the dribbling wreck sense of the word.

    :P

    I shall practice more tonight.

I'm not sure what would go best with Baileys… I like a bit of Bad Brains with my rum though.

    Ditto all of the above.

I'm in Tring – near Wendover – and it's very damp outside. There was quite a bit of snow to melt – it's going to be soggy. Aston Hill is closed, to give you an idea of conditions.

Could be fun on a 'cross bike though. ;-)

A good whiskey should be enjoyed.

Unlike the dubious lager that coogan obviously drinks.

cheers for the tip, it is however a chalky rooty skidpan all winter….

True… Makes you a better rider. Honest!

I wouldn't – it's shut after the recent snow. The road was impassable, but is OK now. However, the thawing snow is going to turn the place into a chalky, rooty skid-pan.

It's my photo – the 'mistified' bit is snow coming off a falling tree and nothing to do with any post-production work, which is why Rich and Mark are staring at it. :D

I did do some Photoshop work on it, but it was a tiny bit of cloning (nowhere near the 'misty' bit), some sharpening and converting it from colour to monochrome. As a rule, I'm not a big fan of massively altering photos after they're taken.

    Thanks for the compliments!

Nah, ti's fine. I had all four done at once. Other than aching ribs for a bit where the surgeon used my chest to lean on, it was fine. Eating solids in a few days.

Ive seen a fair few threads on pistonheads discussing the pros and cons.

Ah, those reliable sources of information. ;-)

On a quick medium size estate note, it could be worth having a look at a Ford Focus ST170 estate if you can find one – there weren't too many made, but they did get good write-ups.

They are not that annoying really.

Still a reason to get the estate though…

The vRS is a little newer and more of a premium product, but the Mondeo will be much cheaper.

The STs are holding their value really well – you'll be doing well to get a decent condition ST155 with less than 100k for much less than £8k. I saw a 55 plate ex-Police vRS go for £1850 on ebay the other day. Admittedly it had 151k on the clock, but the STs are still generally more expensive, unless you're going for a mk2 (200bhp) vRS.

I've also been looking at them for quite a while… :-)

The weight seems to be on the lower back with the wing nut, my Camelbak Hawg give me lower back pain, does the wing nut prevent this or is the weight more evenly distributed.

    Was that a question?

If it was, then I'm not a physio so couldn't possibly answer definitively whether it'll cure your back problems or not.

However, personally I think that the weight it better distributed – it's supported by your core muscles and hips, as opposed to your back, so potentially it could help with your back pains especially if they are caused by your back taking the full weight of your current rucksack.

Got the MPS Alpha pack and used it for night riding, two day bivvy/bothy trips, guiding in the Alps and commuting. Going to get a Hyper 3 as a 'grab and go' bag for shorter rides. Few minor niggles (no pump port is my main one) but the stability and weight distribution makes riding with a regular rucksack just feel – well – wrong. Very very good.

Not cheap mind, but very very good.

Not sure whether to w**k at home tomorrow, or head into the office and w**k there.

Don't think there's many people in to see my w**k, so may save myself the journey and w**k in the comfort of my own home. That way if anybody wants me they can call and listen to me w**king over the phone.

I'm not a baker by the way, I w**k in electrics.

You don't have anything to do with Alfa Romeo do you? I heard someone call their wiring department a right bunch of w**kers once. ;-)

But w**king with cream cakes sounds like fun. :-D

I was signed of w**king for 3 weeks. Went back to see Dr yesterday and he said it was ok to restart w**king again. The occupational health people thought I may not be up to w**king so I had to do a few tests to show them that I could w**k again.

Sounds similar to me. I've been w**king at home for the past three weeks following an operation that involved my dominant w**king arm. Since then I've been recuperating and gently w**king, even though I'm technically signed off.

I hope that my employers realise what a diligent and dedicated w**ker I am.

In its final guise it was running an 80mm Titec stem, Titec El Norte 690mm bars, a mix of Deore, XT, XTR and Hope, with a few other nice naughty bits here and there.

If building again I'd put on a shorter stem and change the forks – the Minutes are plush when moving, but it takes quite a thump to get through the SPV.

Actually, if I was building it again I'd get a bigger size – I'm 6ft and this came up a little on the short side, hence it's now a frame one wash and a polish away from ebay, so if you fancy a 17.5" 2007 HJ frame, make me an offer! ;-)

My old Fuji F20 was an absolute gem until I lost it. The F30/F31, if you can find one, is probably the pinnacle of the Fujifilm tree for photo quality and usability at the moment, despite being a few years old.

The replacement F60 is OK and seems to have most of the decent Fuji elements, but is a little too faddy and Microsoft 'it looks like you're writing a letter'. On the flipside, it still takes a decent shot and because it's been superceded already only cost me £120.

manitou produced forks that were so crap that even after spending a fortune on them i wouldnt defend them.

I really like my '07 Nixons. And the '07 Minutes with TPC replacing the SPV are very nice…
