Like what you’ve done with the lawn.

I don’t like Golfs either. Bloody reps, clogging up the roads, using their phones while driving.

I’ve been looking on there too regarding getting a detachable towbar on my Octavia – it all seems a little grey, especially as the gent in the police weighbridge horror story was towing.

Shared space, but got one of the Aldi jobbees ready to build.

They were on old towels over plastic sheeting, but as they’re all clean at the moment and the flat is on the market they’ve been allowed to stand on the carpet (or moved to my sister’s garage).

Hopefully be moving fairly soon tho…

Never rode into any vert ramps, but dropped into them from the pegs. Big rush tho!

Used to like riding minis back in the ’90s – even rode Rom with Jamie Bestwick once, many moons back. :-)

I could get two people and two bikes in a 205GTi, so a Fabia should be no problem.

Hmm. A mate has got a 335D saloon and runs roof bars – I’ll ask what his experience of it is.

De_void: That’s awkward – what are they like with adding in things like roof racks? Probably a better option.

    Surf-Mat: Nah – as it’s a beamer it’s probably an optional extra. :-)

I was amazed several years back when a colleague wanted to get a Z3. The basic car was reasonably affordable, but by the time she’d added things like a stereo, basic alloys and floor mats the price had increased quite substantially.

I’d go Helius everytime. Mainly because they look ace!

Be careful not to cross the streams and make sure you bypass the flux capacitor.

You never complained (especially when I wore the horns). :P

69er or 29er SS. I still believe it could make a great winter hack, especially round our way.

Bikes covered in and out of house for up to £3k. Doesn’t quite cover one bike, but it’s a cracking deal for the money otherwise with Lloyds.

Jimbo – can of worms, opened. ;-)

    But yes – I would.

A 100mm fork on the original IO is fine for most stuff, and excellent for swooping through wooded singletrack. My only reservation is that it gets a bit sketchy on fireroad descents, but then hey! It’s a singlespeed! And everyone knows long, straight fireroad descents suck, particularly on a singlespeed.

Christ alive. Good job we’ve still got some Spitfires in working order.

I agree! That’d see those damned commies off pronto.

Really? No one going for the P51b Mustang?

Pah! Mass-produced rubbish. The P47 Thunderbolt was a far better plane!

(OK, maybe it was a little pricey though)

I manage fine with an old LX triple – couldn’t fit an SLX double on my Five due to the swingarm.

    rootes1 – that’s quite incredible…

    Monster indeed.

Apparently the original idea was to use them as invasion craft – they were intended to ship entire divisions and/or armour at 300+ mph under radar levels. Quite a scary prospect, really.

Both Cyberduck and Fetch are pretty good and intuative. I use Fetch – it’s quite literally a drag and drop.

I use XTR chains and like ’em. Broke two Powerlinks while guiding and only use them now for emergency repairs. I also carry a couple of spare pins with me.

The pins are a pain, but they also have a wedge profile which theoretically makes them stronger. I’ve also done a very basic like-for-like test with a SRAM chain (lying one chain next to another) and the Shimano had less sideways flex.

But if it’s only 150 miles old I’d be talking to warranty. Just to double check – how old is the cassette that it’s meshing with?

I’m based 45 mins away in Tring – loads around here from the techy XC loop at Aston Hill to flat singletrack and good pubs around Ashridge, or traditional Chilterns rolling hills and chalky singletrack heading over towards Chequers.

Alternatively the Cotswolds start around Woodstock – not fantastic riding, but you can get a reasonable loop in.

Drop me a line if you want to know more.

Kind of like a Chinook, but able to carry 91 tonnes at 350mph.

    Lun-class ekranoplan

Edit: OK, so it may have problems doing VTOL medevacs. ;-)

I rode a Meta 6 for a bit and own a Five. The Meta’s suspension action is definitely plusher and it seems to climb better, but as an out-and-out fun bike I’d go for the Five every time.

Bazzer – assuming you’re a similar height to me (5′ 11 1/2″ as near as dammit), I’d personally go for the large, unless there’s been a drastic change in the frame layout. With the dropped TT there’s still bags of clearance (my 17.5″ was something like a 14″ c-to-c). You’ll then have the option of running a shorter stem too.

I bought one (a freeride frame), built it up (as a singletrack steed) and didn’t get on with it (funny that).

However, for its designed purpose I would imagine it’s great – a short stem, big forks and dropped saddle would reveal its true colours – but for I wanted it for it’s a little short. The workmanship is gorgeous though.

Would I buy another one? Absolutely, but I’d get it made from scratch. And if you want to buy mine it’s up up for sale. ;-)

Bazzer – I now ride a 2008 Five (still a 602mm virtual TT I believe) with a 65mm stem and I’m 6ft. My problem with the Hustler (compared to the Handjob that I also owned) was that the seat angle was a lot steeper, altering the length of the cockpit quite significantly, especially when running a long post at full extension.

Given the option again I’d get the 19.5″

Actually, I lie – given the option again I’d get the Five – the same playfulness, but it actually fits me. ;-)

After three years I decided to get it done. Although it wasn’t uncomfortable, it was causing issues in my shoulder and back because of the way it had healed. It feels more stable now, but everything in there is still far from perfect.

However, by this point I considered it necessary. Should I have had it done immediately? No, I don’t think I should. Although I would have liked to have got it sorted out when, after six weeks, it was obvious that it wasn’t healing brilliantly.
