6’35” is 8 feet 11 – no wonder it’s too small for you!!

I’ve been buying stuff from on-one since about 2000 I guess when I had one of the first Gimps with no tyre clearance (hence my user name!) and Ive never had any trouble with them. Had pedals, bars, tyres, multiple frames, saddles, grips and they’ve all been reasonably priced and provided the exact performance I expected.

I wish them well if they’re trying to get back to what they once were, although other than an outlet for stacks of other frame suppliers I don’t really know what they are now.

I used to ride 29ers, but I’m currently riding a 650b+ hardtail which is a slack trail/dh bike, and I’m using the 29er forks for a bit of extra slack – I feel like i’ll Go back to 29” at some point though – it’s just faster in my experience of being a hacker

Even though mine is relatively current I’d say it’s still unfashionable.

    1. It’s a hardtail made of aluminium and not a full sus in carbon.

    2. It’s got a non-stealth reverb on it.

    3. It’s got Superstar wheels on it which though light, straight, wide and subtle, are neither Hope, nor Stans, nor carbon.

I like it it but I don’t think many would covet it so I’d say unfashionable.

I went 11 speed with SLX mech and cassette, SRAM chain and an XT shifter as I find it’s the shifter that gives feel.

It was about £120 I think and I sold my old XT 10spd stuff for £50 so not a bad upgrade for the cost of a new XT 10spd chain and cassette.

If you buy a new set of deores you’ll need to shorten the hoses & probably bleed anyway. I know you “can” do it without bleeding, but you do intimate that you’re not very good at such things.

Surely you’d get a good enough range going 1×11 with an 11-42 and a 30t sprocket?

I have 29” RS Pike 160’s on a Dartmoor Primal plus 27.5 frame. It’s supposed to be slack anyway so it’s great fun still, I have no idea how the different offset affects it but it rides nicely. I figured I’d cut the travel down to 140 or 150 to cancel the difference out but to be honest there’s no need. I think you’ll be fine.

Using cone spanner’s, undo the caps on the disc side, pull the axle out, the freehub will come with it (pull from freehub side obviously) knock the bearings out (x2) with a drift, press new ones in, replace axle and nip up nuts on disc side again.

it took me about 10 mins, and 2 of that was finding my cone spanner’s!

As luck would have it I’ve got a set of 6903 bearings in the shed from when I had an old Enduro, so will do the bearings later, happy days.

Look out soon in the for sale section if you want some Roval 29ers with new bearings!

Cheers all, I’ve got a vernier in the box at home so will just bash the bearings out and have a look. Was just hoping to pull them out and put them back the same day as I don’t get much maintenance time unfortunately – hence my new bike mostly sitting in the box still after a few weeks of owning it all!

Treated myself to some 30/35mm rims on Electro hubs for £150, must be some sort of bargain.

Anybosy want to buy the Bonty Dusters I bought last week and haven’t taken out of the box?

That’ll be the third set of wheels I buy in 2 weeks then. 25% off puts them in line with second hand offerings so might as well get some new ones.

    Thanks!

I think you need to talk to him via email or Facebook, because he also does an enduro bike that isn’t on the list so I guess the website isn’t up to date.

Have been reading since you gave me the link! Seems

they do more frame styles than listed on their order form now so we’ll message them and see what’s on offer. Seems ludicrously cheap for what they are, and I now quite like the look of their full sus so might up the budget a bit!

Oh I see. Might have a play around with some specs and see what I come up with.

    Cheers.

Get off my toes you sod!

I’m after a large as i’m 6’ so I guess a 19” would be ideal. What frame are we talking?

Thanks guys, I’ve seen the few that sick have posted on their Instagram but would have thought there might be a bit more in the way of personal reviews by now.

Might just stick with the Dartmoor idea as I can at least sit on one of those at the shop in Gloucester before deciding. And it’s only £230 so if I live with it for a year and then move on to a Wulf then it’s not much lost.

Granary Cycles are (or were) knocking out a set of Tech 3 E4’s for about £250 a pair not too long ago. They just be worth a bash?

I enjoyed that, the gimbal action made it look like a computer game. Look forward to seeing what you come back from BM with.

@joebristol I agree with your mechanic, and I much prefer SRAM because of it. I also see your point about Shimano being a bit vague, which is why I’m slightly disappointed that my new bike is coming with 10spd XT. I would upgrade to 11 speed SRAM but the cost of the XD Drive cassettes puts me off somewhat!

Might be because of over tensioned hoses, or poor quality zip ties, but I had 2 break yesterday at FOD which I mainly put down to brittle cold plastic.

Does metallic count as brown, or is it bronze?
I used to have a 2009 Enduro SL in Bronze and it was probably the nicest brown I’ve ever seen.

Not the one I was thinking of, but thanks anyway. It’s a bit more homebrew than the dirt one.

There’s a guy on Vital MTB that’s turned his Enduro 29er into a 27.5 Fatty, looks really nicely done too. Will try to find the link.

I got an sj4000 for Christmas and ended up choosing a uk based ebay seller rather than Amazon. It’s the wifi model and as far as I can work out its genuine, its origin isn’t really of great importance to me though, it was a £60 camera that does a great job, is easy to use, connects to my phone and gives good quality films. Might not be super hot at quick paced transitions from light to dark but having seen enough go-pro footage I’m not convinced it’s any worse than those!

For training purposes I imagine it will be grand.

Surely he could have at least used 30A screw clamp chocoblocks, who doesn’t have some of those lying around?
At least they would be screwed then rather than just relying on compression.

That looks a cracking effort, I’d have on myself if I hadn’t sent all my money on a new fangled bike with 29″ wheels… I like the 29er but I bet I’d love that little thing!

Ive just bought a 2014 Stumpy Evo 29er, have I done the wrong thing! It’s a big brand, with an own brand seat post & wheels, and it’s all black so doesn’t even have cool graphics.

I’ll be even slower than usual won’t I?

I’d get a road cassette with close ratios, something like 12-28.

I came on here to ask a few questions about replacing chain rings, I also need a new BB, seems easiest just to buy a set of those dual ring SLXs, so that’s what I did. Cheers!

Thanks All, looks like I’ll be selling the cranks with the frame then!

Anyone want a 2011 Whyte 19 Alu with X9 cranks?

Nemesis, I thought I’d read that PF30 uses the same width axle as ht2 style, just thicker at 30 rather than24mm.

    And no, Si69, it’s definitely pf30.

Cheers chaps. I was doubtful, just hopeful!

Thanks, so the mech is a simply bolt on then, my Enduro was an e type without the plate but it needed an adapter too.
I’ll check out the headset too, cheers.

    Ryan.
