See what you’re doing now is jumping your bike, as opposed to riding your bike over jumps. Top man!

Looking forward to getting up Rowberrow on mine, my C2W voucher request is in, I’ve paid the “difference” (to cover the charge that the c2w provider takes from Bird) and I’m just waiting on the certificate to send to them now.
Need to shorten my Yari’s and we’re good to go.

Ah cool, I think of Whytes as being quite long so I think if you’re finding an L to feel longer I’ll probably go for the M/L.
    Shall get the order in!

@weeksy How do you get on with the large frame? I’m also dead on 6 foot and I’m about to order a frame, the size chart shows me plumb in the middle of M/ but my last full sus was a Large Giant Reign and the M/L seems a little shorter in ETT even if the reach is a little longer. I always found the Reign a bit short when seated so wonder if the large Aether might be a better fit. I doubt I’ll get a demo ride anytime soon and I’m impatient to buy…

Ted James Designs would be the guy I’d go to for anything custom if I:
    A) could afford it
    B) could justify it
    C) wanted it to be superbly crafted
    D) wanted Ti or steel

My Lyrik didn’t have a crush washer, not a great deal of riding after it didn’t have a bolt either… when I ordered a new bolt from TF it came with a crush washer.

The current price hikes are probably going to fully price me out of the ebike market, I’d decided to buy one late last year but would hold out until we moved, we’ve just made that move but now the bikes I was looking at (if they were actually in stock) have jumped that bit farther out of reach.
Will see what happens in a year or two but I can’t see them coming back down so I presume I’ll just keep on being the slow guy at the back.

    I’ve just been though my
Pinkbike album to find out if I had a Hightower a few years ago, I think it is (Luce yellow) but was an LT. Ran it with a fairly basic spec (SLX 11 speed and Pikes, cheap wheels) and its “probably” my favourite all time bike, not really for its climbing ability although I couldn’t really knock that.
I paid something like £700 for the frame about 2 years ago, was reasonable condition but I haven’t seen one so cheap since then.

They’re short mind, way out dated compared to current geometry but if you size it right I think you’ll like it.

I’ve got an Angi still in its box that can be had for £20 if anybody wants it. Not overly sure why I bought it as I never ride without mates.

Red Lyriks make you 25% faster so I think it’s worth putting them on the hardtail.

@joebristol I’ve just seen your frame on the MarinoUK Instagram page. Looking spangly!

The last thing I ordered on a next day service with CRC was placed at about 3pm saturday, it came with Hermes and arrived at about 2pm on Sunday. That was over Xmas too, can’t knock it.

I follow Harry Main on Instagram, he’s a funny guy and an amazing rider so worth a watch – we’ve all done dumb stuff with bikes and I’ve struggled with bearings the same way he has, but having used a tiny punch I managed to get mine out of the back of an enduro only leaving the outer shell in place… that was a pain!

My biggest issue with him is that now he’s got an AXS Reverb he runs the battery at the front with his saddle pointing skyward claiming it avoids tyre contact when he bottoms out. I don’t believe that and think he just got it wrong, but he’s a bmxer so it’s understandable he doesn’t know how to set a saddle up.

I’m the random guy that just liked your insta photo btw.

    It looks grand.

The barb should be in with the bolts and bleed blocks/hose clamps. Along with a spare olive (there will also be one in the lever body.

Worth making sure it’s heavy enough not to move when you hit the lip, the upward slope is going to take some force if you come in fast – like any good old lever would. And you probably will want to hit it quite fast to make sure you don’t just do a drop off, because of you do a drop off you’re likely to loop out over the front.

    pimpingimp

Yup, that’s quite a lip – you’re going to a want a pretty steep landing to hit that comfortably.

I’ll weigh my Marino/Sick for you one day, that’ll make you feel better.
It’s heavy, not as heavy as I thought it might be, but doesn’t feel it when riding – if anything it feels light to ride other than the 40mm rims and 2.8 tyres.

I’m definitely enjoying it, didn’t really expect anything else though as my bikes have been getting progressively longer and slackers for the past few years and this was the next logical step.
No we didn’t get to any of the steep stuff, the guy I was with pointed out the way to get there but mentioned it was closed due to logging. To be honest at that point my fingers hadn’t warmed up and I’d have struggled with holding on and braking so I’m glad we didn’t get there.

FOD was called off today so we did Leigh woods and Ashton Court, the bike handled such extreme trails admirably well – anything remotely downhill was great fun, it rails around berms with a bit of leaning and even jumps the rollers.

    Uphills? Not so much… :)
It’s going to be amazing at BPW and anywhere else gravity orientated.

My fitness holds it back more than anything, but I found with the steep seat tube my leg position wasn’t ideal – will have to slide the saddle back a bit.

Overall, 10/10 ride. Well happy. Say what you want about the Sick Bike Co, they knew how to design a hardtail.

You might get lucky, mine came from Germany boxed euro style but the levers were disconnected and plugged so they were an easy fit on the correct side.

No idea about the retailer but they’re great brakes.

I’ll be up for a local ride at some point, off to FOD on Monday.
My brake mount is for 160mm PM but I assumed 180 so had to find an adapter in the shed, but mine is a bit older than yours (and adjustable/removable) so presume he’s updated to the modern world

I’ve gone with a Yari on my new hardtail, they’ll probably be set at 150 too. MoCo will
Do for the whole and then I’ll put an upgraded damper in for the compression.
I like a beefy fork and my last bike had a lyrik, I don’t think I could go back to a Pike chassis after that.

Who knows Joe! Maybe 150, maybe 160. I’ll ride it at 170 for a bit and see how she goes.

Yes @marksnook it the one that was in stock. I’m really pleased I randomly stumbled upon it as who knows what I might have ended up with without it!

Sort of finished mine now. Photos show it in the longest wheelbase but I’ve pushed it forward since and thread locked the bolts. Haven’t set my saddle to the correct height or angle.
I forgot how much of a pain it is to set up an internal dropper cable when it does up inside the seat tube rather than at the lever. What a ballache!
Forks yet to be reduced in travel (currently 170mm) but I’ll do it when I get around to it.

Best of luck guys! Mine came with APC/Paisley Freight and even though it was a 1 day service it missed its terminal between pick up and delivery so was a 48 hour turnaround. Hope you don’t get that issue!
Enjoy your frames, I think you’ll love them.

My second order (placed last Sunday) was showing as “in transit” in a German place I’ve forgotten the name of for 3 days, and at 9.45am today it was showing the same.
It was delivered at 1.45 today.

Terrible tracking system, excellent delivery service!

Certini Bristol have a wildly coloured Spoon in stock, I saw it with my own eyes today when being shown £85 Phenoms by a salesman in there after explaining I didn’t want to spend much on a saddle…
if it was black I would have bought it, but it seems the only black mtb saddles in there appear to require monthly payments in 0% finance if you’re shopping on a budget :/

Yup, UK stock and it still took 12 days to arrive – so good luck with yours (everyone on here)

It’s a hardtail and it’s incredible, forks will be dropped to 150 or 160 when I get around to it but I’ll give it a bash at 170 to see how stupid it is first.

Photos will follow as I had 20 mins spare earlier so fitted forks and wheels but I should pick most other components up from the office in the morning.

Mine arrived at lunch time, headset, bars, stem, forks & wheels already fitted.

If you lot have anywhere near the sort of quality of this one I think you’ll be really pleased, very clean welds, good powdercoating/paint, I’ve got sliding dropouts that went in first time and the axle went straight through with no fiddly alignment.
Well worth the cash. It feels heavy when bare, and yet when it’s got the components on that it does (inc 170mm Yari’s) it doesn’t feel heavy at all.

Only waiting on my brakes to arrive and I need to order a a saddle but it looks like I might get an Xmas ride in!

My DPD order has now arrived, it had been ordered 4 days after I ordered a UK based frame, my dispatch was delayed by 24 hours because a part wasn’t in stock so I had to choose some other items and it still arrived before my uk based products.
    God bless the Germans.

I was penny pinching in January and bought some from Amazon that were about 15% less than seal Skinz, I’m convinced only one of them is actually waterproof. My sealskins must have lasted me 8 years and these haven’t survived 2 rides. I still wear them as they keep my feet warm but I’d be looking for some decent reviews before I buy my next pair.

I’ve made 2 orders with bike-discount.de, one on Thursday last week and one on Saturday. The first is now in bristol following a 2 day lull in tracking information that this thread made
Me worry about, the second is in Germany still at the same stage as Fridays was for a few days so hopefully it gets cleared and delivered soon as it’s with DPD.

Great news! My S!ck Wulf frame is going to be delivered today. Just 2 years after I originally wanted it, I mean I only ordered it from Marino a fortnight ago but still.
We know disruptive it was to the industry, let’s see how disruptive it is to my riding group. I imagine it will slow things down somewhat on the uphills as a minimum (if that’s even possible)

I ordered mine last Monday and it was in stock in the uk, I was told on Saturday that it was sorted Thursday and would be with me today, just received my tracking from Luke to see the courier was organised Saturday, booked yesterday and the frame was picked up today.

I’m not super fussed because it’ll still be here this week but if you can’t get a delivery within a week and a half from a uk based frame I wouldn’t be holding out hope for a 2020 frame that might either be in Peru, or an airport, or an aeroplane…

Mine’s going to be longer and slacker, and way way way heavier, running 2.8 Nobby Nics with my Yari’s it’s going to be a monster truck. And I can’t wait!

@joebristol having done a bit more checking on the website it’s because I ordered the 4 pot front and 2 pot rear set, and the 2 pots are out of stock. So they’ve refunded me that part of the order and when I get back to it I’ll get the 4 pot set which are in stock.
Went for GX Cassette and chain, SLX cranks in 165, XT BB, Deore shifter & mech, and will be Deore brakes.
Just found a dropper post 2nd hand that might mean I can sneak this build in under budget and then I’ll see you up at Ashton Court and Leigh Woods once you’ve built your Marino and I’ve built my Wulf.

Bugger, placed my order and the Deore 4
Pot brakes weren’t in stock so my plans that all stemmed from the I spec EV have been thrown in mtb chaos… :)
Could go SLX twin pots but then there’s also XT… decisions decisions!
