don’t look like they are particularly well educated ..

You can tell someone’s level of education by looking at them.

Ive read some tosh on here, but that’s quite the statement.

When my ridge tile got blown off onto my brand new car my home insurance wouldn’t pay the claim as it had damaged my own vehicle.
They explained that if it had been someone else’s car then they would have paid out.

This was several years ago so unsure if it’s still relevant.

@bsims if nothing else your misfortune has really helped me out.

Clearly your post opened up some unhealed wounds and I was grumpy that my remote still doesn’t work. So this afternoon with renewed vigour, I striped my key back to the pcb and used a cotton bud, and a single haired paintbrush doused in isopropanol and cleaned all the contacts and pcb.

    It only bloody worked!

I’m actually so happy, and a little bit embarrassed that I didn’t even think to try this before.

Thank you for making me cross enough with myself to have this flash of inspiration (despite being several years after the great washing debacle).

Well that was poo in my pants scary, narrowly missed a tree falling on my wee Panda on the A85. A couple are down Gannochy way too (and an absolute hero with a chainsaw clearing the road).

Stay safe people, it’s really quite dangerous out there.

    1. Will it work in the morning?
    2. How much will it cost to replace/ have I saved if it works?

    1. Yes… once and then be dead forever.

    2. For my Panda when I did the exact same thing quoted about £280 from Timpsons or £400 from the Fiat main dealers.

I’m unlocking my car the old fashioned way and have been for a while now.

I love it, friends, family, food, music, indoor tree and crackers with silly party hats.

    Whats not to like?

I am very excited for Christmas, I’m even getting to spend it with my Mum this year.

It’s the first time in 8 years I’ve not have to work over Christmas, so I’m going to make the most of it.

Just resurrecting this thread from a couple of months ago to say thanks for the advice – I start my new job on Monday 😀😀😀😀

Congratulations 🙂 best of luck for Monday.

Im now 2 months in to my new career, and I’m like a new person. I finally have a work/life balance.

I tried the beyond meat ones on the back of a previous thread, I have to say, they are very good.

Expensive yes (you can always find them reduced in my local) but even at full price they are worth it.

Opened this thread to say the Linda McCartney Mozzarella ones… beaten to it (twice!)

I need to try these next.

and the fans love him just now.

Yes we do, I’ll admit, I wasn’t keen the first time round, let alone the second. But he’s done something that I haven’t seen in my lifetime.

Im loving being a West Ham fan right now. What a result today!

I work in HR (ducks) and we are having a heck of a time recruiting.

I think there’s something about coming out of the pandemic, having basically been thankful for a job, but now looking and thinking the grass is greener or that people aren’t going to put up with the same poor treatment and colleagues…

I think this is a fair comment and similarly, people have really found out what they value during lockdown, they have had both the time and distance from their regular workplace to reassess priorities.

I have been an Xbox fan exclusively, I was introduced to halo at uni and that was that.

My stepson is a PS die hard, we’ve clashed heads over this a lot! Some things however, are more important and I secretly bought a PS5, and have been practicing fortnite.

We got our first VR in duos the other day. That moment was totally worth it ☺️.

I have Battlefield on preorder and the day off to play it (more like half a day after the updates).

Fair to say, I am loving the PS5!

Elden ring trailer was released yesterday

    That looks amazing!

I’m fed up of the girlfriends lad beating me at Fifa.

I’ve bought a PS5 and my own copy of Fifa which arrived earlier, so I can practice at mine and kick his ass when I’m at his.

Hold on to one bike. I did what you did and sold them all. Can I afford to get one back now, nope.

On a plus side i retrained, got a new job, have a work life balance and enjoy working and living again. You’ve taken the first step to that so well done.

The rest will fall into place. Enjoy a bit of stress free living, and use this place to vent when you need to.

Well **** me, thankfully it’s 5:23 so an acceptable time to get out of this hell hole of a bed and potter around (without waking the dog, or her son who’s bedroom is downstairs).

£1000 she spent on this mattress, it’s shit, sharing a bed is shit, no sleep is shit!
I’ve been awake since about 1am and I have an 8 year olds birthday party to endure today. This is not going to go well is it?

I guess moving in anytime soon is also off the cards as we would need a 5 bed house to still allow visitors over, we’re never going to be able to afford that.

My house currently doesn’t have a roof on it but I’m sleeping there regardless tonight.

which will probably lead to more 70s sitcoms style rumpy-pumpy anyway.

Humble brag, we’re at it like rabbits, that part of our relationship is very healthy 😉

Oh I do snore, but she never hears it because from the second her head hits the pillow, until after the third alarm has gone off, she’s asleep.

Shes just spent a silly amount on a new mattress, so next weekend things might have improved.

    That’s great, congratulations.

I aimed high and am a little nervous I’ve bitten off more than I can chew!

Aren’t all new positions like that? You will be fine after a few months, or fail probation 😉.

I was up for this last year then illness hit right in the early days. I’m in this year.

If I remember rightly wasn’t this started to remember someone’s fallen friend?

Ear plugs would certainly help with the snoring, but not the being punched in the face, wriggling and lack of space.

Get a large dog and have it sleep on the bed between you. No one can steal duvet then.

We have a medium sized dog and he’s nearly as bad as she is for sharing a bed with.

We both have king sized beds, maybe that’s the issue? We are maybe so used to having a king size bed to roll around in.

Id like to think I’m a pretty good bed companion, I fall asleep on one side and wake up in the same position (even when I’m at home on my own).

Separate duvets might not be a bad idea, won’t stop getting punched in the face though.

But it’s probably not helping returning to your own bed to reset the familiar every few days.

That’s a valid comment, it’s not just to reset the sleep, her household is fairly chaotic with 2 children and a dog so we are finding the balance for everyone at the moment.

Thanks all. Just been out for a lovely meal with my team to celebrate getting out of that hell hole, already I feel a huge weight lifted.

you never feel you’ve done enough do you…

No, you really don’t. My presentation went amazingly, it’s when I sat down and tried to answer the first question I completely dried. I had to ask for a second to compose myself, eyed up the door for a quick retreat but got through it.

How did you get on @Kryton57

    how did it go?

    I start on Monday, wohoooooooo.

I was so nervous as I need to get out of my current job as it’s destroying me, but apparently I aced it.

Best of luck with your two.

Having just had this dilemma myself, I went with a suit.
I was going to go with an open collar but my internet sleuthing showed me that the senior staff still wore ties, and I just so happened to have one in the colour of the company logo.

I’m very sure I do want to replace the door with something nice and traditional (1899 property). Just a small matter of the 14k to fix the roof first.

Unfortunately removing the waterfall in the living room takes priority over a new front door, hence the quick/cheap fix first.

It’s probably intended for a wendy house or something. I’m finding nightmare after nightmare in this place, but it’s mine and I love it.

Its on a proper old school (probably 90’s) Everest aluminium front door. The doors and windows will be done after the roof, but id like to change the lock first as it’s starting to play up.

Yeah from the front edge of the plate, but it won’t be 33mm, apart from anything else you wouldn’t be able to get your escutcheon plate on – it would hit the doorstop.

Thank you, excuse my non technical terms but from the plate where the lock protrudes from when you turn the key to the center of the key hole is definitely 33mm.

Sorry for the hijack OP but whilst we have the burglars in, do any of you know about 5 lever mortise locks? Do I just need the measurement of the end of the plate to the center of the keyhole (33mm)?

I’d like to change my front door lock but have only had euro cylinders before.

Bloody hell, I wish mine was that easy to sort out. I’ve got a waterfall in my living room every time it rains and this has been going on since the beginning of February.

I think I’ve had every roofer/builder/chancer out that lives within a 50 mile radius of Perth.
