TandemJeremy- Thanks for that but I don't have time to read all the info at the moment but will read it when I get time. What I would say is the the link looks like it get much of its information from RTA records and police reports of RTA. This does not reflect the tumble Simwit had.

Can you find a link that supports your view that is mountain biking specific?

    @ TamdemJeremy

I was present when Simwit had his tumble and I don't need to read any websites, test results or tea leaves to realise that the helmet saved him from a head injury. As you say the helmet has "failed" because it has split but the helmet has nevertheless prevented a head injury and that has to be a good thing.

The ground where the incident occurred had exposed rocks on it and one/some of those rocks impacted with Simwit's helmet. The helmet received the impact from the rocks and this helmet has the marks to prove this (although the photo's don't show this too clearly). If he had not been wearing the helmet the rocky ground would have impacted directly with his skull and caused injury.

As Simwit says – Wear your helmet kids.

Judging by the shape of the bruise on your back it looks like you landed on a small kiwi-type bird!

Have a serious weakness for biscuits, once they're open they're gone. Fox's are a particular favourite. Cup of tea is a great excuse for even more biscuits.

Berm Bandit – Common sense is indeed a great tool but for some reason it usually fails to fall within the "Guidelines".

    Absolutely shocking case.

I wonder if the lads involved feel like they've had a bit of a result?

I agree with the Mr Haque's son that justice has not been served. The lads were on bail for a similar offence at the time of the incident so that would suggest that they didn't take their actions seriously or the potential punishment associated with the crime they were accused of seriously. I hope that the sentence's will be reviewed but wont hold my breathe.

You should have a look at the Moots Mooto X. The finish on Moots' products is wonderful and you can go down the custom route too. You can kiss goodbye to a good chunk of your insurance payout when speccing one up.

Without going into details I have had a few "customer service" issues with Mosquito recently. I will never use them again. Having nice stock is no excuse for poor service, as stated above.

I was in there a while back and a woman came in with her 5 or 6 year old son. The son had a puncture and in front of all the customers in the shop, a member of staff declared that they don't deal with kids bikes and to take it elsewhere. I thought that was a pi55 poor attitude to take with potential customers.

You can easily ride from the S&C to Windspit. There are plenty of options down on Windspit but as stated above, it can be busy. There has been a few raves at Windspit in the past!! There are some better spots about 1 mile or so east of Windspit but might require a bit of cheekyness.

You would have to force the lock by sticking the screwdriver in the keyhole and turning the screwdriver until the lock breaks.Or insert the screwdriver and hit it with the hammer until the lock breaks.
Have a look at the other windows(assuming they are all the same) and see how the mechanism works. You should be able to work out what you have to break in order to open your window. The locking mechanism will be rather flimsy and not of great quality. There are many retro fit window locks on the market that you can install rather easily to make the window lockable again. Or you could source a replacement handle with key's that match the others in your house.

See if there is a manufacturers name on the window or handle (guessing the lock is on the handle) and request a new key from them. Failing that, most locks on windows are fairly crap so a hammer and/or a flat bladed screwdriver will be your friends.

There are a few spots on the coastal path, some of them are quite popular and you need to get there early(ish). Some of the beaches within the army ranges are worth looking at too.

Always used Shimano and they have always done the job well until I got some fancy Crank Bros ones and now they are doing the job well, but look nicer. IMO

I've walked that route a couple of times and I doubt I would take a bike on particular bit. As debaser says, the Bad Step would not be fun with a bike. I would be interested to know if anyone on here has done the Bad Step with a bike?

Maybe trail centres or land owners will insist on it if your riding on their land due to previous court cases and claims against the land owner and you can't blame them if that were to the case.

twaddle. No landowner has had a successful claim against them and they couldn't enforce this anyway"

With our increasing claim culture it wouldn't surprise me that a "future" claim against a landowner would change the way a land owner would view things. A few years ago people would have said "twaddle" to wearing seat belts in a car or day time running lights.

If folks want to wear armour for whatever reason, then good on them, esp if it works for the wearer. It might look excessive to some people but who cares what other people think.

I wouldn't be surprised that in 10 ~ 15 years time wearing pads and armour etc will be the norm. Maybe trail centres or land owners will insist on it if your riding on their land due to previous court cases and claims against the land owner and you can't blame them if that were to the case. When you look back 15 years many people didn't wear a helmet, now you notice someone who does not wear a skid lid. BTW I don't wear pads etc but do wear a helmet.

The Hilti one I use is very very good up to about 20 ~ 30 metres (depends a bit on what your measuring and how bright it is). I was a bit sceptical when they first started to become affordable but once I got one I found it to be completely accurate and now I wouldn't be without it.
