yup use it on when climbing and open when descending (rp23 on a 5) never seemed a prob switching on the move and i find it makes a difference…

running a 32 up front and one up 42 on rear, works fine gives plenty of range, and is easy enough on legs,
you can spin out on fire / road descents but i wouldn’t normally ride a route with them, I’m happy with it for local stuff, hamsterley, thrunton, glentress, inners.

i recently got rx prescription inserts for my goggles…they’ve been great ( being able to see where your going is a benefit? imagine that!!!) so much so that I’ve been using them for trail not just DH, which makes me look a bit of a div …so interested in the uvex link as seem ok priced as up until the rx inserts I just used whatever was cheapest and light safety ones, mainly due to the amount i lost broke, left on top of cars etc..

Yup V4 takes a 183 or 203 rotor, doesn’t need to be vented but its more DH orientated.

yup easy to find the path down across the lintzford road, coming up the track from newcastle, if you go under the station bridge theres a track up to the bridge on the left then drop down the track to the road and the gates to chopwell, its a good little climb up on the way back to…

…..apologies for slow response…i bought some adidas pinner goggles secondhand and then got the rx insert glazed the rx insert was way more expensive than the goggles, but i was riding virtually blind without them and i’d tried contacts but just couldn’t get them in and out easy enough…

Yup Vallnord is fine, not a huge amount of runs but enough to keep you grinning, route 66 is a great run back to la mansanna, the upper lift runs are a good addition, so if you can get there on a weekend its worth it, Tracks are pretty smooth and theres no major obstacles,,,,i think the main diff (like any alpine style place) is the length of the runs down,,,, enjoy

had the same set up and it worked fine….wrecked the mech a few weeks back got a new one and could not get it to go through all the range…tried everything.. then admitted to myself indexing gears is a dark art and took it to LBS… PROB SOLVED.

I think if you find a group at a similar level its great, but knackering, I play most weeks with a group of 30-40 yr olds and since most of us want to keep playing no ones getting kicked up a height, Don’t think its helped my bike fitness at all ( running 5k a few times a week did, but its boring….)

the issue was with a 36 ring on a double set up as it can (not always due to tolerances ) foul the chain against the back face of the swing arm pivot bearing, the bash will not be a prob here its the chain as the front mech moves it up. I ran a 24 -36 bash set up for about 2 years and it was fine but it was close, 22-34 bash should be no probs.

i ride in the alps and pyrenees with mates most summers and although I’ve often thought i wish i had my bike here… the cost hassle of getting them there / damage / spares etc in the end up never seems worth it.

You also get the benefit of trying bikes for a week you’d never ride / need / afford at home, Most places will let you switch if you don’t get on with a bike, so pick a shop that has a few makes
