Medical Writer here. I help Big Pharma peddle their wares. Tastes a little bit like sucking Satan’s c*ck sometimes, but I genuinely like wot I do on a day to day basis.

Used to be a research scientist, but got very jaded due to all the politics and constantly begging for money from funding bodies.

GW, he’s just about 18 months now. Without the headrest thing, he does grab the bars a little too forcefully for my liking.

Sort of along the lines of – hmmmm, why is it suddenly pulling to the left… aaaaaahhhhhh treeeeeeeeee. He’s a bit of a big monster for his age. (Looks more like a 3 year old and probably as strong).

Fair point Binners. I’ll need to see what he thinks tomorrow (1st day dropping him at nursery). He’s already ridden on my Soul and Blur, so maybe he can post up a comparison on here….

That Blimp exploded over Germany in June this year. The Germans don’t have much luck with their airships, do they?

I did get one back – saw it for sale on ebay and the police recovered it for me….

I wouldn’t expect that to happen again though……

Sorry, I didn’t specify. It was my contents insurance that I tried to claim on after my bikes were nicked. I left the window unlocked, so the claim was thrown out.

I did see a guy order a bacon butty from a roadside greasy-spoon place who asked for both red and brown on it. At first I was a little bit horrified but, I have to admit, I am quite curious to know what it’s like….. I’d hate to waste a perfectly good bacon (and HP sauce) butty however.

It did remind me of a product that I tried when I was a nipper on holiday in South Africa. It was called Tomusto (sic) and was a hotdog dressing consisting of ketchup and mustard in one bottle. It was blooming loverly.

No preparation whatsoever – in fact, Pie Jnr was conceived as a result of an unusually hedonistic 4 day long bender featuring a large variety and sizeable quantity of intoxicants. I’ve mostly knocked all that on the head now though (mostly…..).

He’s very healthy BTW, was a shade under 10lbs at birth and, at 16 months, is developing nicely. He’s got a mahoooosive gut though, just like his old man.

Unless you have been trying for ages without success, I wouldn’t worry too much about changing your lifestyle (unless it’s one long series of benders).

    Just get busy!

Not tried either of the above suggestions yet. I will do when I get home though. Version wise, it’s V5.1.3 I think.

    Thanks for the advice.

The brake is spongy with no bite. I’ll try bleeding it again and see if it makes a difference. I wondered if the plate might be letting in air somehow, but it’s probably just poor bleeding. Thanks.

He wears his hat happily sometimes, at other times he’s not so keen. As a professional carer, I would have at least hoped that she would recognise that when he is not wearing his hat, additional measures are needed, such as – oh, I dunno… SUN CREAM maybe or find some shade??

Also, my desire for revenge, whilst still simmering, has abated considerably since this morning, as is hopefully reflected in my subsequent posts.

Edukator – it’s buried in one of my posts above.

    For the hard of reading.

“When my wife collected him from the child minder, it was very apparent that he was burnt. The childminder informed my wife that she applied the suncream “every 10 minutes” (which I find very hard to believe). We have also given her a sun hat for him which we would expect him to wear when outside.

Binners, your concern for my family’s welfare is truly touching. I never knew such things were possible….. :D

Thanks for reminding me that I’m off to the Alps tomorrow. All this excitement/anger almost made me forget about it…

Ok, some of the later posts on this have made me realise that some further explanation may be a good idea.

He gets dropped off at 7.30 am. At that point we saw no reason to cover him in sunscreen as it wasn’t especially sunny. In hindsight, I will dip him in a big vat of the stuff in future.
If we ever have him out in the sun, we DO apply it liberally and regularly and this has never happened before, even when at the beach.
We provided the child minder with said cream on the understanding that if they were to be out in the sun that it would be applied.

When my wife collected him from the child minder, it was very apparent that he was burnt. The childminder informed my wife that she applied the suncream “every 10 minutes” (which I find very hard to believe). We have also given her a sun hat for him which we would expect him to wear when outside.

At no point has there been any admission on the child minders part of having done anything wrong. It was so obvious that he was burned that I fail to see how it could have gone unnoticed as it was happening. This alone has eroded a very large part of the trust we have in her. If there had been a simple “I’m really sorry, I made a mistake and it will never happen again”, that would have gone a very, very long way in helping to maintaining the trust.

    Anyway.
My wife took the little man to a drop in clinic/hospital and we’ve been told to keep him inside/out of direct sunlight for the next 3 weeks, and apply sudocrem to the non-blistered areas and to watch out for infections in the open blisters.

3 weeks…….now I’m starting to get angry again.

As the day has progressed, I have been swaying between incandescent rage and thoughts of it being an honest mistake and that much worse things happen at sea etc, etc.

We will be considering our next move very carefully. Our kid is really happy with the minder most of the time, and I certainly don’t want to ruin a livelihood for the sake of one incident.

Aaaaarrrggghhh. Why did no one tell me that having children would be like this????? (or why didn’t I listen properly to all those who did tell me???)

Thanks for all the advice and comments. I’ve calmed down a lot with the help of the STW massive.

Wifey is planning to make a formal complaint about it.

I’ll put my hand up and say that “trauma” may have been a bit overly dramatic, (dictionary definition “any bodily injury or wound”) but it’s hard to keep perspective when it’s your child.

He is only 14 months old and does have fair skin, so I am taking a bit more seriously than if it had happened to myself.

The blistering has gotten worse over the last 3 hours.

wwaswas – that’s exactly it. We feel that we have been badly let down here.

I remember them well! I also had sci fi comics (called Starblazer I think) and football comics all from the same publisher. I can’t for the life of me remember what the football one were called though. Oddly, I can still vividly remember several of the stories.

something similar happened to me. I saw my stolen bike on ebay about 6 weeks after the theft. I called the police and told them I intended to win the auction at any cost and then pick up the bike in person, with no intention of handing any money over. When I told them I was planning to go meet the seller with a group of mates purely “for emotional support”, they very quickly got on the case and I had my bike back 4 days later.

They were really, very, very good about the whole thing.

How much headtube space do you think is needed? Was hoping to fit it to my Cotic Soul, but it’s not got a lot headtube sticking out.

I’m 5’11” and ride a large. I have a short torso, longish legs and disproportionately long arms though (read unevolved) so the medium felt a bit cramped (elbows banging on knees). I have tried both the 456 summer season and then the Soul. The Summer Season felt a bit more industrial than the Soul, which feels almost delicate/dainty in comparison. I love it.

You can borrow mine if you like. It’s a 58cm frame and fits me well. It’s nowt fancy, but it’s good at what it does. I’ll need to put some wheels back on it, but it can be ready for pickup this evening. You’ve got my mobile number I think (Iain N), so give me a bell if you want a look.

He gets 3 6oz bottles of milk a day (7am, 3pm and 7pm)as well as meals – breakfast (porridge/muesli and fruit), lunch (homemade meat and veg) and dinner (similar to lunch). We do a mixture of feeding him with a spoon and giving him something to feed himself with (he’s a big fan of bread and fruit).

I think the most annoying thing is that he can’t be in the same room as another person who is eating without kicking off about it, even if he has just eaten!

I’ve got a copy of Hear the Wind sing that I bought in Tokyo a few years ago. It’s quite good, and some of the characters from his later books are introduced.

I’ve just seen an ebay ad for it – going for about 11 quid.
    Proper bargain
