    For MrNutt’s benefit.

No-one is disputing the RoW for 4x4s over Houndkirk Moor. Unfortunately though some drivers have taken to driving off the established RoW through the Peat, leaving what looks like a 4×4 play-park. This area near the summit used to be very small, but in the last few months seems to have quadrupled in size and the adjacent footpath also seems to be seen as ‘fair game’.

I guess this may partly be due to Totley Moor being closed of, however that place was getting like the somme, in areas random muddy tracks covering an area up to 30 metres wide for a stretch of probably about 200m. The main irony of this being that 4×4 drivers wanting a ‘challenge’ in their cars that could easily drive round the world drove round the mud pits.

This display of disregard for the sustainability of their routes / access agreements and general inconsiderateness leaves me with little room to be sympathetic.

Although initially dubious, I found clipless dead easy. Do some rpactice rides though first as it may not come as second nature.

I’m sure back in the old days you used toeclips / straps? Your feet come off easier.

When I get these cards it narks me because the local depot is down the road, but apparently it takes 48 hours as it has to go across town to the larger sorting office to be sent back to the depot near my house.

Given the choice between riding all day and running all day I know what I’d choose

They have a tiny boot, however my Broter has just sold his Honda Accord as he never uses it and him and the wife and toddler will be using just the Mini. So much as they are tiny, you can live with them.

Much as I think the Rohloff is too expensive, I also think the Alfine is too cheap, or will be very expensive to maintian IMHO

MrSmiths graph suggests that waiting a while longer, or even now to buy a house would give a massive ROI in about 10 years time

    I run and bike.

There’s nothing better than running past cyclists on the uphills, although uphill is one of the sadistic bits of running that is enjoyable. And TBH I find the difference between running uphill against flat less different than that for cycling, if you catch my drift.

A runner who goes as fast as you downhill is very good! I get scared of broken ankles running down some descents anywhere near the speed a bike would.

I guess so. I just thought if you timed them properly you’d just need lights for traffic getting onto the roundabout – they do it on others

There’s a new roundabout in Sheffield with traffic lights to get onto the roundabout, then traffic lights on the roundabout at each junction.

    Carbon frame?

I don’t think either stem will make any difference to road buzz. Just get the lighter one.

Why do those neds insist on driving with their body twisted at 45 degrees and the arm holding the top of the steering wheel straight?

    Surely that can’t be comfortable

I’m biased becasue I DIY, but to get a really good finish is hard,, and takes alot longer than you think.

I have no idea but if its an old house with off vertical / horzontal walls I guess half a day, therefore £50 tops

If so the trailrakers are prolly too skinny

Is the downhill not muddy? Sounds like you don’t want to change your tyres much. If you aren’t doing many road miles the Swampthings sound good

    What tensioner are you using?

I found a Surly singulator to be fine for ‘ages’ of use

    Dustcap could be knackered.

Doesn’t explain QR or sideways movement, but would explain freewheel not back-pedalling properly

FWIW I’m riding trailrakers at the moment. They’re a (very) skinny 2.1 but what I gain in grip more than makes up for the volume disadvantages at this time of year. They have a tendency to clag up in really gloopy stuff, but really good otherwise.

When it dries up in a month or 2 will return to ‘normal’ tyres

set the rebound so it goes ‘swoosh’ then work either way from there
