Do hippos get castrated in their mouth or does the vet not know one end of a hippo from the other?
philxx1975Free MemberSo, once the UK manufacturing is sorted has Cy mentioned anything about painting them with more than 2 colour choices? I say more but I can only ride black frames, with black on black muyda colorway.
http://www.cotic.co.uk/product/rocket ,the colours are there looks like 4
philxx1975Free MemberI have a Litespeed, wouldn’t particularly recommend it to anyone.
A side note and question almost ,that XACD is that not how Enigma get their frames made? ergo by an overseas vendor this was what put me off them initially but maybe I listened to others opinions and its not correct.
It was one of the factors that actually led me to the decision to buy a Litespeed R frame.
philxx1975Free MemberDon’t some manufacturers actually weld/glue a shim into the frame to bring oversizes tubes down to a standard seatpost size?
philxx1975Free MemberYeh, that’s what I thought. Dunno, though, is it mass produced? Might be hand made by someone in the UK? Guess it’s got a pretty good R&D history, not many steel frames could claim that.
Didn’t the chap that worked for genesis leave? It could be made in the UK?
philxx1975Free MemberThe chances are, if you want a £2000 steel bike, you’ll get it hand built by a bespoke builder, and custom sized. If you want a bike to race on, you’ll probably buy a cheap carbon or alloy frame.
Right on
You might just have to look further afield than the UK though
As hatter points out, crash alu or carbon and thats likely to be the end of a frame
That is disposable society, a 2K frame in 953 is built for you ,its not a 500 quid On One off the shelf
***Disclaimer other carbon brands are available***
philxx1975Free MemberAre you a trader?
WTF !!! Would trading standards be interested in some nut job “off of a forum”
I would let her take me to court…polite email saying Ok get your small claim in either way court or otherwise you won’t be getting your money honey!!
I don’t think you will hear anything else , maybe the big bad wolf might huff and puff then jog on!!!
eBay has seen a rapid rise in people trying to send back items different to what they actually bought. So make sure you actually get back what you sent. Not saying that is what has happened here, but seems strange for her to kick off give if the stem is as pictured in the advert.
When i was 10 someone did this with my LEGO ,tried a bit of sleight of hand I kicked his head in and got grounded
philxx1975Free MemberIf had had average use it would have gone well within the first 2 years for a full refund.
Sodajim
Mines a Lynskey R340 its less than a year old but you have me worried as you say in your case it would have failed well within the first 2 years.
From what I have also read on an American Road bike site the earlier frames were literally bulletproof with many happy owners who have put 10’s of thousands of miles on them so they obviously were built to last. The later ones however have had a fair few problems and more than a handful of owners publicly disagreeing with Lynskey’s opinion they make fantastic frames.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing after the event!! 😳 as mine is now considered a later one. I paid through the nose as I was led to believe they were regarded as a premium manufacturer, if i had know all this
beforehand i dare say i would have gone down the route of a boutique manufacturer.Im sorry to hear yours has expired.
philxx1975Free MemberI’m lost is it a custom frame?
If they do not make it anymore what do you want them to do about it ? replace it like for like? Seems reasonable to do so but if its no longer made what do you do?
I cant remember what the company is called that does Ti frames
PS I only chimed in because i have a Ti frame and its made by Lynskey and if mine breaks this might be useful info to know
philxx1975Free MemberInteresting, what’s that based on? Early 953 had micro-cracking and staining issues but the alloying has changed a little in recent years to solve that, it seems.
I have been interested by an american frame building website James, I am only repeating or regurgitating what some of the builders have posted up on there.
As I am not a frame builder I can only base my opinion on what I read? Would I buy one? I own 2 custom bikes and to be honest it is kind of what got me interested in having a go at building a bicycle myself but in my case I suppose I’m basing a buying decision on what I have read there.
philxx1975Free MemberThe Framebuilding forum I frequent has guys who build stainless frames ,they use Columbus and KVA not Reynolds tubing. Opinions seem to vary between Reynolds being expensive tosh to it actually rusting to some degree.
I Know Rourke is about the only top flight builder using it here in Britain, you seem to see his name on lots of the stainless bikes in the forum and mags.philxx1975Free MemberIt’s a bit of tapered bar.
Just do a drawing and send it to a machinist?
philxx1975Free MemberMy dad was in hospital in South Yorkshire last week. I did wonder what the staff were doing instead of giving him his prescribed medication, despite him asking for it repeatedly.
We were both upset by it, and I’m not stuck as to what to say.
She’s mentioned this at work in a discussion with her line manager as there are also staff who never seem to do a lot, she works in dentistry not a hospital.
I’m of the opinion she should just find another job in private practice.
philxx1975Free MemberPiemonster
It was actually in our local paper called the Chronicle but as it’s a small area of South Yorkshire it must mean if your from round here and you have appeared in the Mail you must be famous!! That was the only reference I could find to the article and what the woman was saying. Unfortunately we don’t /can’t read the Mail because we are working class scum!!
philxx1975Free MemberAndrew Denham at The Bicycle Academy was going to get Burf of BTR to teach Tig welding in Frome.
I have found a frame builder locally, thank you for the tip. I had seen the course by the Bicycle Academy but it is too far away and too expensive for me now .
philxx1975Free Memberf it was an automated signature, like for email, it would be understandable-ish. The fact you must have to write it after every post just seems a bit unnecessary.
…but if it makes you happy, then go nuts.
Cheers,
Rachel
I am unsure if Colorado is actually under another name on here but I also wonder if people who post that frequently do actually have time to go and ride
Whut?I signed up for Bikeradar also and there is a chap on there called called cooldad who basically non stop posts ,can’t get a word in edgeways and is quite always correct about everything.
Wonder if he is on here under a different name as as I have seen the same names just pop up over and over and over. To be honest some folks like that who have to shout loudest to be heard have put me off posting on here altogether ,even if I do have questions.
Easy answer if you don’t like it go away but why should some spoil it for others?
philxx1975Free MemberI don’t actually mind either way. I find it more annoying, in fact to the point where it’s no actual use even posting on this or another forum ,that some people have to answer every single post or topic regardless of subject
I am unsure if Cooldad is actually under another name on here but I also wonder if people who post that frequently do actually have time to go and ride
THE MINUTE I see some names pop up on a thread it means press the back button.
philxx1975Free MemberIs this the new Rocket your waiting for? It seems all these bikes are either non existant or sold out
philxx1975Free MemberThe contract is what you agreed on the phone.
RECENTLY on watchdog was a story, she was actually a contract lawyer in London iirc.
Basically case was that a document sent with different terms on it after the verbal contract made over the phone however many days later constituted a completely different agreement, ergo not one that was agreed to
She won lots of other folks are now now going down this route.
They also cannot use the terms on our website in effect clause anymore with regards mobile contracts which have been verbally agreed to either. We had to prove this.
To beat these shysters you will need to take it all the way to court with case law …and spread the word risk them hammering your credit record and basically thinking they can do what the he’ll they want.
Someone should set up an ambulance chasing type company for misoldd phone contracts eh?
philxx1975Free MemberEmail sent thepodge.
CK I read all 14 pages of your bicycle thread over on the welding forum, I posted my first attempts up there.
I have a foot pedal and gas lense and a wp9 torch, money is a bit tight now though so maybe a different torch will have to wait. I have spent months reading up and watching videos but haven’t quite had that moment of clarity where it all comes together hence ,seeking guidance hands on now.
philxx1975Free MemberCK that is awesome, Is it one of yours, where did you learn
thepodge I actually live in a place called Oughtibridge .
Edit , Actually Citizen Kane I found your bike thread on the welding forum 🙂
philxx1975Free MemberThanks for the tips
I am on a welding forum also seeking advice. A lot of the folks on there seem to be welders who make what could only be described as fabrications way out of the size I am looking at ,Think oil rig pipework and the like, though there are some that have built a few bikes. Most of the courses are for coded welding or just general fabrication.
Whilst they are helpful a lot of the advice has been to try and get some tuition from someone doing something similar . I was hoping there would be somewhere local as most of the courses as mentioned above by CK are for brazing frames.
There is information on the web but even then most of the sites ar American and seem to be roll cage or experimental aircraft, again it’s plain gauge tube and still quite a bit thicker than bicycle tubes.
Ben I have tried this and well basically whilst im sure we all have to start somewhere it wasn’t great!!!
Daveport the one I got was this
http://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/welding_equipment/Tig_Welder/TIG_Welder_Digital_Series_210A_ACDC
It will also weld aluminium which is another area I would like to try
philxx1975Free MemberAt least you get to keep the frame. I saw TBA at Bespoked and just assumed they offered frame building courses, however it appears you pay your money and you don’t actually get to hang it on your wall “someone who needs it will benefit from it”
700 quid gets you a course from a pro builder like Dave Yates or even a good 2/3rds of a frame actually made by a pro builder, Ben Cooper could build me a frame for my kid for £400 ,a balance bike
philxx1975Free MemberTBA- bandwagon jumping
Its money for old rope perhaps and you probably would learn as much on a college welding course. It does make me wonder if these new “I want to be a bike frame builder” will do more harm than good
I certainly wouldn’t be parting with my money especially as some of the newcomers have built 5 or 6 frames after doing a course somewhere.
As for using build your child its first bike as a marketing tool to get custom ,what a cock
philxx1975Free MemberYou would think for every standard out there!!! There might at least be a standard for a part which carries a component most bicycles equipped with one have.
philxx1975Free MemberGo to Bespoked next week for the real high quality builders ,I’m also going to attend as I found it the best way of speaking to a framebuilder and guaging their proces.
philxx1975Free MemberToday has really dragged. TBH its more of an all their eggs in one basket, as a growing business if that employee leaves then there will be no one to do the work so there’s a bit of guilt going on that the income is based on me pulling my weight for them and completing certain jobs .
However had a chat and it seems they are going to see if i can get out early
Thanks for the input all
philxx1975Free MemberMy contract says 2 months min and I am pretty much their workhorse, as in if I go it will leave them up the creek with their 2 juniors doing jobs.I cant stand it anymore and want to take a more relaxed approach to life. Mind is made up and honestly just want ou.
philxx1975Free MemberI like the custom bike building scene, but after watching NAHBS for nigh on 10 years this show was full of builders struggling to outdo one another or trying far too hard and failing miserably.
Personally whilst I would part with my hard earned cash and have done several times for custom frames a lot of the stuff at NAHBS wouldn’t get a look in
I visited Bespoked last year also and just found it the same old just in Bristol.
philxx1975Free MemberThis gash copy of Solidworks you have Johnellison, You might want to keep that to yourself instead of advertising the fact.
philxx1975Free Memberyes I’m local to those places.
Hi Pook is there much good riding round here, currently Oughtibridge side.
Can’t find a lot of the trails other than the main fire roads in the wood
I have come across a fair few riders on the Pennine way up to Langsett but heard there were a lot of good trails round here.Hi to everyone else ,Seems like a friendly place.
