I was after a narrow wide ring from that UK co but couldn’t get one just ordered a hammerschmidt as it seems NW is a bit of a solution with the same problem, a lot still complain they’re losing their chains and the one company’s product that doesn’t suffer this ,you cant actually buy it

Road bikes are so much less troublesome, does make you wonder why the cash gets spent on mtb.

Do they have the experience to build, for example, a FS bike? Can they match the price that Pact will secure through contacts and reasonable production run sizes?

I mean, there are already plenty of custom frame builders if you want something out of the ordinary?

And don’t they make out they are the dogs danglies, I’ve dealt with two reliable ones ,one stateside (not sure if Lynskey counts) but there there did seem to be a lot of I’m in the premier league attitude about them which was pretty obvious before deciding which builder to go for , do they not realize cock wun in the china factory does the job just as well

Maglite and a reflector bracket did I save myself 101 quid

All artisan types should be forced to cut off an ear to prove they are comitted to the movement, simply growing a mcbeardy isn’t enough or owning an axe.

@scotroutes All the good builders are darn sarf it seems ,Roberts is an itch I would like to scratch ,Yorkshire seems to be a bit dull, maybe its because of the weather.

Ok so if we turn it on its head and wanted a steel frame based on some of the advice here

It begs the question as there’s so many good off the peg frames, seems pointless going custom ,that and the good builders seem to be road not mtb specialists.

Which frame for pootling round on?

What happened to the days of riding your bike and a factory team sponsoring you because you were good enough and won stuff ,lots of guys out there not paying 7k to getin a magazine.

I had a frame from the manufacturer beginning with L ,kind of hence the question

    SENSIBLE 😯

4-500 quid maybe for a rigid frame, road or otherwise yes, It’s quite amazing how this custom made demands an extra 500 quid premium because a hipster in a shed has touched it.

Holy crap did you see the prices for that chickensframeemporium, they’re having a laugh.

they can but they then lose all buyer protection so why would they?

Dunno about that I’m quite trusting and haven’t ever been scammed but it seems to almost let someone have the opportuniy to play a system, I’m only just reading about Re; scams and frauds and its quite complex and unnerving TBH

I sold something and Paypal wouldn’t release the funds until positive feedback was left.

WOW they don’t tell you this crap when you sign up that’s all hidden till there’s a problem

Just spoke to Ebay they say unless positive feedback is left or a tracking number delivery plus 3 days is confirmed this will be the case, gutted also if you are left negative feedback this will also work like a credit record, black mark strike means your back on probation

I wish I had known this earlier, can people just pay direct to paypal and not use Ebay at all?

Don’t get me wrong its not some BNP type sentiment ,I’m no historian but if I try to connect things it seems at some point all civilizations have gone by the wayside in some form, the roman empire for example maybe its western civilizations turn to be overtaken or replaced by another, the only thing that seems to connect them is war will always be waged.

Is it wrong to wonder what the world would be like if we had not quelled Hitler and his ideas ,would there be peace in the world under one nuthob as opposed to infighting and slaughter by lots of nutjobs?

Not at all, i treat everybody equally, and i admit that was poorly written, but i mainly meant walking round with a bucket in my hand on the streets should not pay more than being a bike mechanic.

It wasn’t poorly worded just bear in mind there are some nobs out there who will twist anything, I know some charity workers further up the food chain who are lets say not short of a bob or two through their position.
Often the guy with bucket in hand is a volunteer or having his expenses only paid

Bit sorry I started the thread; not sure it’s serving any purpose other than to give an opportunity for people without any interest to express angst on others’ behalf. I’m sanguine.

From the sounds theres very few with any real angst value to add , more poking fun

I was just reading about the Netherlands and Denmark where they have ‘presumed liability’ That is what we need here in the UK. It basically means the motorists is liable by default unless they can prove otherwise. They say that as a result of this, motorists give cyclists more room

according to my recent thread it was education and a bit more cooperation from both sides that was needed not some draconian blame culture

It was just an observation my OH made today that she sees cyclists in her RH mirror a lot more than in her left ,she doesn’t ride a bike btw so has never seen it from a cycle commute point of view on the road.

She was however far more aware cyclists are killed on the LH side and in her words “undertaking”

the thought just occurred you wouldn’t (generalizing) try to get a car up the inside of another car so why do it on a bike , just because you can

So you’d rather sit in the traffic jam along with all the cars then? Sucking up all the carbon monoxide and adding to the length of the queue… not sure how that helps anyone.

The result of sitting in carbon monoxide is generally the same outcome as being crushed, lack of breath ,IMHO id rather get home to see my kids at night alive than try to save a few minutes on a left hooker

And whlst its great for experienced cyclists to have enough common sense and awareness to get away with it , there are those that just aren’t road aware, new bike riders, new helmet, ride to work seems a good idea at the time types ,I was thinking more for their safety

Didnt it get thrown because neither side knew if it would fall foul of EC anti competition laws, pretty sure if you say you can have a sole distributor for a company then the real moneymakers ,the lawyers get all uppety re anti competition in the EU

Pretty sure they EU can fine any company up to 10 percent of their revenue

I can clearly see that u.k companies are now finding it cheaper to start making components here again

With the exception being that its just getting more expensive to make things overseas levelling the playing field in the traditional chap labour countries

I wonder when things get made in S. America and the African nations where the automotive folks are eyeing new locations for factories and markets

They would still be able to do custom one-offs, but it means without the Kickstarter funding they don’t have the up front money to get a batch of the linkages machined or order a batch of CCDBA shocks so would more expensive. (probably too expensive for some)

The KS thing is to try and raise some money up front to get a batch going, they’ve already built a couple for customers already.

    http://www.btr-fabrications.com/support-and-faq/pinner-faq/

Would it not be wise to just stick to doing one offs at that price, considering the news its now available on the 650b bandwagon ,actually going back to my previous comment/Q regards money and mouth ,I can see why, I thought there were loads of them already out there in 26″ the PR says there’s actually only 1 in existence and that is a 26″ inch bike,

This Kickstarter thing? Does it mean they wont be making anything if they don’t get backers, seems not a lot of people are prepared to put their money where their mouth is Pinkbike generated 170 odd comments but no one bought one?

They have just put up no parking towing signs in Outibridge, this is a bit ridiculous is there not some kind of warning they must give like two weeks notice or something ,other than the sporadic sign’s about a half mile apart and no other road markings saying do not park here ,its not illegal to park anywhere on my road till the 6th of july

the black or white options for the rear ‘triangle’ are apparently for people to match with their fork colou

Are all forks black and white these days?
