    Accessibility for me.

I helped build a DH track this summer. I would never build an XC course.

People like the excitement of DH so why would they do XC? If you wanted a slog fest on a bike theyd ride road.

Tiny bit of top out, cant say ive noticed it when im smashing down the trails anyway. Im a few clicks from slowest.

And if you do notice it when you’re riding you’re either riding too slow or theyre ****.

Sixtapod willy waver to warm up as stated. I’ve done that so many times its crazy, think Strava show me having done it 25 times. lol.

I would miss wibbly wobbly out of the reds, used to be good but not im not so keen, rough and boring top section, woods are ok then its mega off camber for the speed you can do out of the trees at the end.

Rim dinger seems to just get better and better and so do insufficient funds.

I do like doing Melted Welly, split onto Vicious Valley and ride the fire road for 100 yards and do blue belle or just go straight into Bonneyville, then insuficient funds to finish. Hell of a run. Or ride the fire road down to Rim Dinger/Willy Waver area.

When you know it you can mix and match massively.

Ive just had mine changed to 160mm by Loco so will check mine tonight. Not used them yet at 160mm but didnt have an issue at 150mm.

I drew up one before then cut out a plastic folder for 99p from Tesco.

Mucky nuts are kind enough to show you the profile so working out the size was easy enough.

Cafall and Twrch at Cwmcarn on your way down.

Stay somewhere, drive to Blaengarw, do two laps or however long you feel (short trail, good as a warm up), then ride Blade at Afan and go drive up to The Wall bike park for a play around and do the addtional loop.

    lol. Good point.

Let me check the exit angle when mounted at 90 degrees and if its better count me in.

I’d love something like this for my Specialized Command Post.

Is that just a 31.8mm diameter to fit the remote onto? If it is i can use my command post lever with it.

Thats good to know when i get round to putting my 150mm 26″ air spring up in the classifieds.

I’ve been hitting the gym so i’m actually in better shape now than when I was riding. lol.

I don’t hang about riding and have only been doing it for two years, (have a look at most strava segments at BPW in the top 10 and you’ll see me), so a general lack of skill from not riding that long and a mix of large testicles has me eating dirt a lot.

Yeah, just in case i ruin myself, which was happening more frequently until i stopped. Had some big offs lately so my body could do with a break. lol.

Thats what i keep telling myself.

5 weeks monday til i can ride it. Its a Alpine 160 btw, 26″ frame, build up with mits from my old bike, pikes, flows, formula the ones, monarch plus rc3, should be awesome fun.

It has all the safety rating as a open face helmet says it all for me.

And you look a dick on the trail with a full face no matter how you brand it.

2 months and counting. Although its not fully built yet, its in bits ready to be built.

I’m on a 3 month riding ban because im getting married…

So would my 2014 26″ frame have the wrong tune? I bought my frame with a Monarch Plus from Orange.

    Its a M L like you say.

    Afan masts.

Gulley run, medic, connect4 amoungst others are great fun.

Easy to find on strava, look at the bottom of the wall, where zig zags finish, move the map towards the sea or left and youll see the fire road climb winding its way up.

    Here we go…

In two years I’ve broken the following:

2 x chain stays (cracked) 1 on my voodoo bokor frame and one on my spesh stumpy evo
1 x seat stay (cracked) stump evo again
    2 bent zee mechs
    Snapped 2 chains
    1 x x9 clutch mech
One rear rim trashed and loads of spokes broken
    Brake hose split
    X7 shifter
2 x chain devices – truvativ one and the other one that looks like it but just a top mount
    Single chain ring

I just read the RS wesbite again, “DebonAir, High Volume Solo Air, Standard Solo Air/Air pressure via Schrader Valve”

Makes more sense now what Orange are saying now as the debonair is a HV can basically.

    philwarren11

Sure? Ive not seen any listed for sale or RS dont mention this on the website, i thought they all came with debonair on the 2015 RC3’s.

I had my frame 3 weeks ago from them and i’m sure it says debonair on it.

Can you even get a 2015/fast black Monarch Plus RC3 that isnt a debonair?

    philwarren11

Debonair as standard on the new RS Alpine and available as an upgrade on the others. And you can tune it with volume spacers to make it more progressive.

Not sure why Orange would say it wont work as they spec that shock on most 2015 Fives and Alpines.

I weighed my new large 2014 26 two weeks ago when i picked it up, fitted with a rockshox monarch plus RC3 debonair and it came out at 3.85kg. Nothing else fitted except the seatpost QR clamp.

Think theres about 130-150g difference between the Fox and RS shock.

    Hope that helps.

Technically it’s open but half of the original skyline is closed. If you know it we’ll and know where to go it’s all perfectly rideable albeit a bit grown over in places.

I’m building a 2014 Orange Alpine 26″ at the moment with pikes, monarch rc3 debonair, zee cranks and mech, saint flats, 780 renthal bars and stem, formula the ones with 203mm hope floating rotors flows on hope pro2 evo and specialized tyres, charge scoop and specialized command post dropper and by my adding up of parts I reckon it’ll be about 32-33lbs. I’ve had a lightweight ish bike before and kept breaking it so I’d rather have a slightly heavier bike that doesn’t break.

    100kg

No speed compression for trail centre up to 3 clicks for steep local stuff.

About 25% sag, not really sure as I just ride and adjust depending on how much travel I use.

    2 tokens

Few clicks out from slow I think. Probably about 4.

    150mm 26″ versions.

Cafal is good but short. If you got a pass BPW is good as you can ride as much as you want hours wise.

Blade is a pretty long XC, some bits are alright but it feels like there more climbing than downs.

Im one of the weird ones who skis and snowboards. lol.

Going to Belle Plagne over Easter, mate of mine is a school teacher so we’re tied to when we can go. Been 25 years since i’ve been there so will be interesting to see if i can remember it. Probably not.

Ride blade instead if you want something challenging. Its most of the old skyline re-used, or ride blade and tag on the current open sections of blade as its signposted as an extra loop.

Or if you know the original Skyline its all still there and rideable, albeit a bit overgrown in places like the end of grand canyon and the start of handy andy.

I have one of these ready to go on a new 2014 alpine, not used it yet but it looks good on the bike being built up. lol.

Keeping an eye on this thread.

Most of my mates down here in south wales want Orange bikes or have them, simple, no nonsense bikes that take an absolute beating.

Ive just sold my 1 year old Spesh Stumpy Evo as i was fed up of breaking it and replacing stuff that’s just simply not made for this country. 8 pivots, stupid PF30 BB and a rear triangle that I cracked twice (chain and seat stay).

Cant wait to order an 26″ Alpine, does that make me even more weird?

Any way of finding out what the reach is of a bike if its not published?

My bike has a seat angle of 73.5 and so does my potential new bike, theres 3mm different in effective top tube length (new bike is longer), is it fair to assume that the reach will be similar as the bottom bracket is higher on the new bike by 9mm. All pretty close im guessing and will feel similar.

My bike is a 2013 stumpy evo, new bike is a 2014 orange alpine. Ive sat on one and it felt near enough the same!

    6ft 1.

    150mm stump evo
    45mm stem
    780mm bars
    617mm effective top tube
    442mm reach.

Feels spot on for me and for what i enjoy.

I must be in the minority of people who don’t mind it.

If they keep knocking out deals like Saints pedals for 32 quid who cares if it goes a bit slow now and again.

Probably because you look like a dick riding a fat bike.
