I’ve got an Ibis HD, before that had an Ibis SL.. No I didn’t pay full price for either of them but would I have – yes..
As someone mentioned above, if Ibis can sell a bike at £8k or $8k, then fair play to them – if it means they stay producing bikes for another 5-10 years then how can that be viewed as a bad thing? If they didn’t sell them they’d drop the price.
As for the price it self, when I bought mine I was lucky enough to be in a position to buy one, just receiving a decent sized bonus from work.. I’ve loved Ibis bikes since the early 90’s, never ever dreamt of actually owning one.
Say its $8k = £5,111 or thereabouts, is it overpriced to most people – maybe, probably – is it overpriced to those who have the disposable income, for something which is still a very good bike, no.. And thats how things go. Yes, you could buy 2 or 3 Capra’s for that, I could’ve bought 2 for what I paid for my HD, but I didn’t want a YT, I wanted an Ibis – because I’d always wanted one as a kid…
Finally, yes you can build one yourself much cheaper – I did, but I had the time, effort and knowledge and like lots here enjoy creating my own personal toy.. Others are not in our position where they do not have the time to hunt around and spend hours reviewing parts etc.. But they still love mountain biking.. Surely that’s what matters?
