Plus have a look in hembury woods. Some fun stuff in there and I think you might be able to get into the bottom of them directly from the park.

This.. I grew up in Buckfastleigh and Hembury was my go to after school.. There is a fort at the top, from there there used to be a run that went straight down with switchbacks to the river – we called it the Slalom. Looks like it still exists.. https://www.strava.com/segments/3696315

Hembury is perfect for a quick 45 minutes escape..

Also, Kingswood used to have some decent racks in – again a few years ago now, but it did host a fair few DH races back in the 90s..

Other side of RDCP, you’re not far from Dr Blackall’s Drive – another favourite.. https://www.strava.com/segments/7794934

Yep we have everything here – cliff path single track, wooded valleys and some pretty technical DH – what weekend are you over?

You could ask Hot Pursuit? They always used to do rides when they were based on the high street.

I’m going to curse mine now…

My Inline went to TF, they repaired ut under warranty. 8 months later it went again.

This time they repaired it and upgraded it to an iL. 4 weeks in and its still running beautifully.

(Or it was until I wrote this post..)

I ran a Zee rear mech with a RADr cage on an 11 Speed SRAM cassette with an XTR 11sp shifter for a few months with no issues at all.

Got some IXS Dagger knee pads – they have a hard shell – wear them every ride. Glad I do as well. Sunday had an off and even with the pads now have a massive bruise on the side of my knee cap. Dread to think what would’ve been the injury if I hadn’t been wearing them.

I think I got lucky and got some WT’s direct from Maxxis last year – ran a 2.5 DHF MaxxGrip in the Alps on the front – simply amazing tyre. I also ran a 2.4WT DHR2 in the rear and again very impressed.

Interesting what you say about the Shorty – I’ve got a 2.5 WT that I also took to the alps – I used it this winter when it was really gloopy and again a fantastic tyre – not really thought about using it in any other conditions though.

Totally agree re DHR2 as a front in looser conditions – I had an OTB moment on Sunday as a result of the DHR2 washing out on me in loose over hard conditions.. Got a DHF going on imminently as a result!

From reading this I think I’ve decided on my perfect tyre combos:

    Winter/Big mud:
    Shorty
    DHR2

    Spring:
    DHF
Ardent (Been using most of the winter – really impressed)

    Summer
    DHF
    SS

So, who on earth actually uses an HR2?

I’ve had a LEV, Reverb and Fox Transfer – the transfer is so far the best. Has it for about 4 or so months from TF – I was one of the first to get one, I think I had the first batch that came in – Murray from TF got the first one and I waited for him to use his for a week before pulling the trigger. Love it, so much so that my mate who can service Reverbs has just just bought one.

Does anyone have a link or want to share their GPXs? Perhaps sharing them will make it less painful for those who are still going?

I’ve not been with TA as we’ve always stayed with WhiteBeam, but when I have enquired it’s their way or the highway, no flexibility in guiding only or accommodation only.

Also bear in mind angle sets – although most modern headsets are zero stack, if you stick an angleset in at a later date you’ll suddenly need 10mm..

I had similar issues with the Fox 36 as per that thread above. I picked up a set of Formula 35’s off here a month or so ago, and they really are amazing. They’re not quite as stiff as the 36s , but thats not necessarily a bad thing. They are fairly simple to service and look around on the web – although there are only a few reviews, but they are all good. I think only STW had 1 issue with stanchion wear but that seems to have been a one-off.

Also the support guys are great – had a couple of questions about setup, sent them a FaceBook message and got a really helpful reply.. Not sure you’d get that with RockShox or Fox. (oh and it was around 7pm on a Friday night – replied within a few hours!!!)

    Formula 35..

    Had 36 RC2 and Pike.

Wouldn’t change the Formula for anything else.

Bought some 5.10 Elements… Rode in them tonight – very impressed, feel so much better than my old 5.10s.

Perfect – thanks – as I said I’m actually more interested in the redundancy rather than balancing.

    Thanks guys!

Hasn’t the black coating been wearing off on quite a few DB Airs?

Where did you hear that? I’ve got a DBA CS with black coating that saw a good hammering in the Alps over the summer and some on-off use but its still ok. (Not questioning – genuinely interested in case I need to keep a closer eye on it.. :) )

    Thanks.

chiefgrooveguru – when you say the tongue is stiffer on the Elements – is this compared to the ELC or on the ELC compared to normal 5.10s?

    Cheers

Thanks all. Think the AM7s are out.

Anyone got any experience with the Elements? They don’t look so… loud.

I’ve got ME7 and AM9 – love them both for different reasons. The ME7’s are stiffer, feel lighter and can be tightened up more for some reason. Nice and easy to get off when covered in mud etc.
AM9s are heavier but comfier, don’t feel as efficient (more flex when cranking hard).

Both of them can have the cleats really far back.

I’d buy both of them again.

Heard a lot of reports of the soles pulling apart on the M200s so stayed clear of them.

No love for an ibis mojo hd3 on here?

I’ll second that – rides like an XC bike uphill, and is more than enough bike for me downhill.[/quote]

    Thirded here.. :)

Julzm, I’ve got a -1 works components in my HD3, love it, really makes a big difference on high speed stability. On MTBR the Ibis page has a lot of threads about anglesets.

Although not identical, there are a lot of good reports of running the M9020 trail XTR levers on Saint callipers. In fact a lot of EWS riders use that combo.

@jambalaya – if you get the chance, try one. Was such an amazing car! I’ve had Celica GT4s, various other BMWs, Saxo VTR ( – although it handled like it was on rails and actually a lot of fun) a Golf GTI and now an Intergra Type-R (DC2) and none of them come close to the M. What made selling it worse is that the values have now gone mental – 4 years ago they were around the 10k mark for a decent average milage one – now close to £20k!

Erm… BMW have made some silly cars.. I had an M Coupe, based on the Z3, but with a boot, 321bhp rear wheel drive and no traction control. Loved it. Could even get my bike in boot, although it was better on the roof. Stupid quick.

Miss that car a lot. GTi that replaced it is dull.

    This was my actual car..

Ive got an Ambush, I mount my Exposure lights onto a GoPro adapter and use the GP mount the flat of the helmet – the mount point works well for both the light and the GoPro viewing angle..

Why not? Or is it because your mate had a problem? If that’s the case you’ll struggle to find any brakes to use!

Nope, I used RSC’s last year and suffered chronic fade.

This year I used Saints and had no problems at all. This year my mate had Ultimates, and suffered fade.

Re the comment about the KOM – it was to backup that he isn’t a crappy rider and hammering the brakes every corner – if you drag a brake down a mountain, you’ll probably fade it irrespective of model etc.

I’ve had M785, Guide RSC and Saints.

After 1 week in the alps with RSC’s I will never touch them again. A friend of mine who is very fast (KOM on one of the Les Arcs runs this year) managed to fade out his Guide Ultimates, a day after telling me how great they were.

My brother has a Macan S.

Everything is an optional extra, even the physical dipstick.. (yep, really..)

To be honest, I think there are much better value similar options out there that I’d consider before the Macan.

I actually quite like the new Jaguar F-Pace..

I’m still running my Minion SS on the rear – decided to run it as long as I can into winter.. For sh1ts and g1ggles…

I’m genuinely shocked by how well its still holding up. I fully expected to have ditched it by now for almost killing me, but no. Don’t underestimate it :)

Generally don’t bother with a High Roller – the Minions are better.

Interesting… Not tried the HR2 yet, this was purely on recommendations.. So DHF/DHR is as good?

    philstone

I’ve transferred from Schwalbe to Maxxis recently..

    My combos are:

DHR2 front/SS rear – standard Summer setup for variety – dry, loose over hard etc..
DHF/DHR2 – I’ve been told that the DHF is grippier, but doesn’t roll as well so
HR2/DHR2 – Middle of Winter but still rolls ok, wet wet wet…
    Shorty/DHR2 – Deep mud/roots etc..

Hope that helps.. Surprised you’re not a big fan of the DHR2 though, are you using 3C or Dual Compounds?

I think the Speicalised command post lever is the same way as the Fox.

Got to say, it does make setting it up much, much easier..
