if it gets them out of validating a warranty then they’ll be very picky! why wouldnt they?

but how would they know if you took it off before you sent the frame back?

re the layby. i only have a small van, i dont mind the odd night in it before an early start but i dont wanna return to it after a ride. prefer somewhere i can have a shower then sit by a fire for a few hours…

im pretty dedicated to the idea of riding the tweed and the lakes, ive ridden both before plenty so know how much i like them, but never seem to find the time to get back often enough… Dales is pretty far out of my way and ive done ard rock a handful of times. Breasthigh Road sounds like a god option tho!!

ive no interest in going back to Morzine myself, but its probably your best bet for the first trip…

driving is the way forward. dont waste a day driving tho, do that shit over night when the lifts are shut!

last year we left home at tea time after a day at work, drove through the night and were on the first funni up to Les Arcs the next morning! adrenaline gets you through the first day!

also having the van with us meant we rode a different resort almost every day – not to mention all the kit and spares we were able to carry!!

i wish there was a a more mtb friendly version tho, one that helps you easily identify segments as descents, gives you the option to switch off all tarmac segments, and lets you create segments shorter than 200ms etc….

Surprised by the positive posts im reading about Prestwich and Whitefield, they must come from people who live there? my nan lives in Whitefiled, she reckons its nice too – its not. they do have Heaton & Philips Parks going for them in fairness, but in reality the whole of north manchester between the city centre and Bury is grim. stick to South east and retreat to the peaks at every opportunity.

should Leisure Lakes be considered a LBS?

given that they have a few branches around the place now and they have an online presence too, albeit completely shit.

they are my nearest shop anyway, but i dont feel like they need my support.

i never use them other than for real emergency purchases (they charged me £9 for a tiny little bottle of 0wt30 suspension oil the other day)

i generally prefer to travel a little bit further to a genuine local bike shop if my bike needs some cash investment…

yeah cheers, should have mention this will be an upgrade from a small partner van, that van has been brilliant but its just not adequate for kipping in comfortably. no doubt the lwb caddy’s would be but im definitely leaning more towards a tranny custom or vito type… dont really fancy a transporter – cba with the stigma.

also 3 seats is a priority… good point about the window – how about a roof light?

that 500-700 quid – is that installed by a professional or just to buy the gear?

the old winter hardtail thing is a bit of a cliche now, but I enjoy my hardtail and my full suss an equal amount, they are both immense fun in their own ways. which one i choose usually boils down to how long ive got, and whether ive time for the cleaning routine when i get back. if im pushed or its after dark ill choose the HT because i will just put it away till next time when i get home – this is the only reason it gets used more in winter. but if i have more time ill take the full bouncer whatever time of year it is…

couple of things in the Luftkappe instructions i dont fully understand…

NOTE: Make sure the Luftkappe piston is close to or touching the sealhead when you reinstall the sealhead. If it’s pushed a long way
into the stanchion before the sealhead is reinstalled, you can trap too much air in the negative chamber, which will result in your fork
“sucking down” even when pressurised as it is not able to extend far enough to equalise pressures between positive and negative
    chambers.

given that you need to push the shaft all the way in to fit the circlip…?

    and

Note: ensure footbolts are done up with the fork fully extended. If they’re done up with it partly or completely compressed, the fork will
    suck down into its travel.

given that the videos ive seen on changing the airshaft (Al, mbr) fully compresses the fork before installing the footbolts…?

thanks for the replies mates. must admit to having second thoughts now after many of the reviews ive read today. very hit & miss. im pretty sure the mrs will hate it, especially if there is no sun! maybe if we went in a bigger group it would be less of a risk…

if i had the dollar, id have an ebike. and ive no health issues! i just **** hate climbing. and if i can double the amount of descents in the same duration ride then no amount of piss taking would bother me.

Purchasing a new coat in Cotswold Outdoors i enquired about the ‘price match promise’ she said i have seven days to find it cheaper elsewhere, bring proof into store and they will refund the difference. i went on my phone there and then and found the same item £43 cheaper – bosh! refunded! was absolutely astounded, and mightily impressed – i wanted to shake her hand!! :)

yeah sorry, builder stem. thats the one i sent back. always turned on the steerer even when the bolts were well torqued up. had to reset my bars after every uplift at BPW once because of the measly force from the trailer straps! shame because its a beauty to look at!! the binary one is fine tho.

i have the alloy bars, very nice! the 8-bit stem was shite tho but they replaced it with the new Binary one for free which was good of them.

Interesting that they are all the ones i try to avoid!

When leaving we stopped at a layby near Pirbright Camp which had an awesome step up and table top in it. The step up was great as you could just pump down the hill to get over it and then try some style or tricks! Its up there as one of the best jumps I have rode actually!

i believe you are talking about Tunnel Hill, just east of Mytchett Place Road? its an absolutely cracking little spot for a play about! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rflU8Ta0Krs i heard its at risk of being fenced off…

i have the edge explore 820 and the navigation is super crisp, concise and the stock maps have plenty of detail. use it loads, i have gotten in the habit of creating courses on strava on my lunch breaks then firing the GPX onto my garmin never to be used again!! nah in fairness most do get used, i ride in new places quite a lot with my job so its really useful. all off road too btw.

my main problem is mounting the thing. i hate having it on my bars, but the out front mount, the top cap mount, and the barfly have all been snapped off in crashes – the best place is mounted on my top tube but that is far from ideal when navigating!!

I work on site 300 miles from home so rather than putting loads of miles on the car i bought a little van to use while im away. i used to get the train up and down then use the van between my digs and the site, and then to wherever in the evenings to ride; but now i just do the full commute in it, its racking up some impressive mileage but i love it and i enjoy having it at home on the weekends for other pursuits.. got some ply racking installed so its home to loads of tools, kit, shoes, other paraphernalia; like a mobile bike shed! im always ready for a ride at the drop of a hat wherever i am!

honestly the best thing ive ever bought!! next van could do to be bit faster and have more seats tho…

No 19. ‘Love’ is great is too. one particular scene in ‘The Date’ episode might be the funniest bit of tele ive ever seen!

Have a look on amazon for horse head masks, I got one for my sister but now I want to keep it.

i have one of them, i keep it in the van with me to brighten up boring traffic jams!

took it skiing last year too, didnt actually ski in it but a very serious looking horseman arriving at the top of the chairlift got some good laughs

looks like an awful faff, if i had that much room id just lay it flat!

mine goes on one side, i have a ratchet strap from the far upper corner to the bottom corner by the door where there is a fixing point. loop it round the seatpost and tension it up.

went skiing once, in the days of Airtours Allocation on Arrival cheapo deals, landed a nice enough hotel in Sauze but copped for a basement room with no windows. we were only about 18 or 19 so were kitted out in mainly borrowed gear. my mate had borrowed a fancy new ski jacket of his dad, we’d gone & hit the apres one night straight after the lifts closed stayed out till 2 or 3am then the next morning there was no sign of this coat. he went round all the bars & hotels looking for this coat asking everyone he met if they had seen it. never found it. just ski’d about in loads of jumpers for the next few days, then one night i woke up to him talking to someone, only his voice, bare in mind in was pitch dark, ‘i muttered who the f*&k you talking to?’ he said, “whaa, someone sat on the edge of my bed i thought it was you..!?” we fumbled around for the light switch, turned it on, looked down at the end of his bed, and there lay the missing coat!!??

    true story.

whenever i have relayed it, peoples immediate guess is that it was all an elaborate prank by him, but he was properly shaken up, and was skiing piss thru & freezing cold for a day or so… another theory is that someone from the hotel found it and brought into our room, but the dorr was locked, bolted and the key left in, and no windows remember, and why would they do it in the middle of the night…?
