    My thinking is that rear wheels are heavier to start with so adding a heavy tyre makes it worse. So instead on a 1kg front and 3kg rear it should be a even 2kg and should need less effort. Could be completely wrong though.

    just been told by a mate who lives at the house by the main gate of lee quarry that the road up is more or less clear with some patches of ice, he believes it will be clear by tomorrow

    the main route comes out around the back side of the quarry just after the spiral on the red route but i always use the cut at the top of the quarry on your left after climbing the ramp.

    Yes, I bought a second hand DT Swiss singlespeed wheel recently (did I mention I’ve got a singlespeed now ?) and found the freewheel didn’t engage properly for the first half of my commute to work.
    About half a turn of the cranks and a bit of crunching from the hub before it engaged. Once it was in it stayed in, although I didn’t stand up to pedal, just in case.
    Coming home after spending the day in a warm room, it was OK.

    so do u think squirting GT85 or similar water repellent into the hub may help?

    remove the wheels remove the cone? and clean and relube the bearings. probably completely wrong mind.
