thats a similar alternative i have mind instead of black sail, but the route i have takes me down to ambleside, we know someone who lives in ambleside so stuff is being dumped there.hoping to make sadgill by end of the first day, maybe even a little further

it’s being done for charity so we need to make it a challenge hence why we have set 3 days. the plan is to ride the lakes section without any kit and collect it at ambleside.

I used to be in the army so i can survive with very few items, bivi bag, basher and a small fuel burning stove, clean socks, baselayers and liners for everyday. a change of top half clothes. then boil in the bag main meals. kendal mintcake, sweets etc. i’m planing on getting this into a 30 liter back pack. water, first aid kits and spares spread across the group.

Seems like more of a challenge doing it with out someone carrying your kit.

any advice on route? i’m looking at black sail pass but there are other options available, do i go over gaatesgarth or go the longsledale route to tebay?

lifting the seals doesnt really, you need to remove the lowers and service them that way.

I used to lift the seals on mine every 3/4weeks but the stancions wore lower down where i couldn’t see it with just a seal lift.

I ordered some pedals from superstar and some shoes from CRC. Pedals arrived yesterday and shows arrived this morning, so well done both of them.

i love the way we turn on our own, no wonder we can never achieve anything, somebody is putting obstructions across trails which are causing a hazard, thats the issue thats being discussed, cheeky trails or not it’s still endangering people.

on another note there should’nt be “cheeky” trails as we should campaign for full access rights.

i agree about the anticlockwise direction and doing middle moor near the end, i’ve only ridden once in the peaks and that was by far my fav bit.

i can see a route on the map to do Hayfield-Jacobs-edale-hollins cross-Mam Tor- royce clough and mount famine clockwise, then a slight doubleback and down middle moor 😀

i’m planning on doing it next sunday the 16th, anyone is welcome as all i have is a map and a sense of exploration to guide me 😀

    Ok demo over.

I’m 5ft 8 and weigh 15.5 stone and have average fitness.

    Spec of demo bike

    Medium
    Fox van 180 fork
    Fox van coil shock
    Renthal fatboy bar and stem.
    Avid elixr brakes.

It ride a lot better than expected uphill and was very comfy and balanced. It bobbed a bit on pedalling but I managed to dial some if that out on the shock. It flew downhill and ate the rocks and techy stuff for fun, it never felt like it would fling me off. I reckon with a few weeks to play with setup the bike would be 100%

I’d just keep the 66’s in the front and save money on upgrading to the fox. I’d also spec the cane creek double barrell for the rear to help keep it stiff on the pedalling.

This is no all day bike but for rides of 2 to 3 hours its brilliant, Aslong as you dont mind pushing up the really steep stuff

exposing calderdale secrets is punishable by death.

but look for stoney lane, down to the gold club. right at the T junction, then turn left. go staright onto until you see an opening on the right and hammer down there. come out on to a road and take the cheeky footpath to the right follow that and it takes up down a lovely desent to a car park.
