grew up in fleet, currently residing very near swinley (not sure about giving too much away on a forum where some member might stalk me in the future haha)

i’m really interested in getting involved, but think i’d need to really work on my bike mechanic skills first!

For me my priorities are the other way round. I don’t need to win the lottery (which is a mindset a lot of people take, but thats a completly different debate) and you shouldn’t wait to win the lottery either before giving to charity.

Everyone has different opinions out there but the problem in the UK is that most people if asked what they would do if they won the lottery would say they’d rather buy a penis extension than helping out those less fortunate than them. Just different mindsets i guess.

as i mentioned i already give to charity, annoyingly i had to reduce the amount as i couldnt afford to give so much, however will continue to raise money when i can.

and i dont want to win the lottery… if i did then i’d buy a lottery ticket… something i’ve never done. as long as my job stops me ending up homeless and worse off than the people i’m looking after in my job.. i’ll keep doing it and be happy with my lot :)

i see your point LHS, and agree to a point, just think its a bit odd to make a point of it in this thread which was set out to be a harmless daydreaming thread about fancy cars.

    peter,

am i remembering correctly that you helped out with a bike scheme for kids in the area? if so is there a website or anything with details of this marvelous idea?

good good, so if you won the lottery you wouldnt spend anything on making your life a little more comfortable, paying off the mortgage and so on before giving to charity?

i give to charity each month, but i know that i’d definately take the opportunity to pay off a mortgage and buy a car that would last before decided how to distibute the rest… it’d be nice to win enough to not have to work again.

this would mean instead of working i could spend my time doing things for charities instead of making donations that get eaten up in admin costs and rebranding etc etc.

i already know which charities :)

    *off to daydream*

i attach several helium filled balloons my my seatpost, this cancels out any weight gain from the following:

    carrying essential fluids
    carrying a spare inner tube
carrying a small pack of allen keys
    carrying a waterproof
    carrying my excess body fat

sometimes i take an AA emergency car kit with a tyre jack and warning triangle in my camelback (charriot racing special edition (as we’re naming them)) jsut incase i come across a borken down car, occasionally i bring a ladder incase i need to break into my house due to forgetting my keys when packing the balloons

not sure if i should mention the fact i wear american football padding for riding along the canal tracks, you never know when the back wheel might wash out and i could fall into a keep-net

that reminds me, i should work out how to pack a snorkel

i hope you give all the money you have in your bank at the end of the month (after paying the bills and buying just enough food to survive) to charity LHS?

or have you occasionally splashed out and bought luxury items for yourself?

was that the “magic hour” someone suggested the other day? if so that was more to do with having an hour to get changed out of wet cold clothes to prevent you getting a cold….

then that was rubbished by someone saying that being cold has nothing to do with getting a cold.

riding would be a great cardio warm up as long as you get on those weights quick enough and keep that heart rate up.

i know this OP must be trolling.. but its fun to join in :D

See more and more people doing 4 mph on their full sus MTB’s, shin guards et al. Look like Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Are they going camping or what with all that stuff? Just no need at all for all that luggage and kit.

Its not as though are riding hardcare “shredding the rad” like Lopes/Peaty etc.

Ive done 6 hr + MTB rides without the need to have a 25 litre+ bag on my back.

they are riding hardcore, they’re riding to the bits you dont know about and can’t handle… especially being a XC-mincer who is riding slow enough and gentle enough to ride for 6hrs + with no fluids, or never riding hard enough to need spares or food

very tasty, good pre-ride fuel but as above, not as good as a flapjack for during a ride.

i did chuckle when a mate shouted up the stairs “dya want a 9bar dude? i’ve got 3 here and i only plan on eating one”

understood. cheers for the help people. being a noob i measured my steerer tube and thought i was being clever ordering a couple of those fsa ones in the link a while back for when my (and the OH’s) headset needed replacing… however now it needs replacing the ones i’ve bought wont work haha!

think i might keep one for a future bike build, and sell the other.

coffeeking, i agree, the young vs old thing was part of the trolling.

perhaps another example would be pointing out that once upon a time people went to balls, then years later they went to dances, then years later they went to discos, then years later they went to raves/clubs, then years later they got krunk

all generations chuckle at the older people being stuck in their ways, then moan at the younger generations for ruining what they understand by changing the rules.

Who says they have ‘form’? They could be beyond our spectrum/field of vision or exist as what we’d describe as ‘wraiths’?

Not everyone in the universe will have arms and legs like us will they? Just look at own planet to see the utter diversity of life.

    exactly

i think aliens exist… but i dont believe that pyramids and such have anything to do with them.

aliens get painted as monsters or human like creatures… evolution on a different planet in different conditions would create completely different life-forms and might not be recognised by us humans and life or inteligent life.

its perfectly reasonable to suggest that there must be life on another planet in the universe, same with suggesting there is probably inteligent life out there somewhere. i just dont believe that its evolved in a way that could fly over and make crop circles or giant tombs.

old people in “i cant understand the young people” shocker

i bet i’m younger than most of you, but i still had to spend time looking up what most of the acronyms and abbreviations you use on this forum meant. i initially guessed that the forum was populated by 16-21 year old downhill rebels who have wasted their time when not riding on msn, myspace and facebook.

little did i know the forum was full of old middle managers who buy expensive bikes and never ride them to their potential, who seem perfectly happy to use a language thats been created recently and god-forbid… use slang words and local sayings.

then in true stw style they forget and jump on an opportunity to have a go at people who are different.

its not your language, its everyones to develop and use as they please.

    cheer up goths!

(young people annoy me, but not as much as dumb people, ginger people and people with tattoos and piercings, none of them would get a job in my photocopying palace of dreams!)

EDIT: need to point out i’m trolling (ohh look there’s a new word) with this post. i agree with a few points made, but i also think its very easy to forget that you were young once and probably used words your parents frowned upon which are now part of your everyday vocabulary.. for me that word is “cool”, dad used to laugh at me for using it saying “you’re not american”

with quality documentaries like district 9 available to the public now i really dont understand how people can doubt the existance!

it was aliens who destroyed the twin towers in an effort to push up the price of office space in the city. fact.

so your saying they’re flying over to steal my resources? its hard enough battling round tescos let alone finally getting back to the car and finding a gang of ethnic visitors from outerspace standing in the way demanding my milk!

yeah its a type of shark, pretty easy to catch along the south coast but make sure you know what your doing when unhooking them, they have a habit of wrapping their tails around your arm and its like extra-rough sandpaper trying to get them off.

crop circles have something to do with this im sure… and they’re not little green men, much more advanced than us.

calling them little green man is the kind of attitude that makes us believers seem like crazy people.

ahhh excellent, i needed a reminder to get the powerball out and start using it again….. i just spin and change hands when it gets too much, IIRC there are quite a few exercises you can do with it to work specific muscles, google would probably be your best friend on this one

any simpsons based around or featuring lisa heavily get turned off, she’s rubbish and ruins everyones fun.

the odd musical number is good, but the whole shows of singing get turned off

family guy has its genuis moments and the odd genius song, but conway sogns make me loose my interest and i end up distracted and no watching by the end of the song/clip

american dad is more political and throws in some incredible sexist jokes…. these please me and the OH

but when it comes down to it… since i took up MTB… i havent watched a single one of them

tried the whole hot to cold thing? most people suggest ice-packs or bags of frozen peas but i think to make sure its extra effective you should be flying from a hot country to a cold country… saves money on peas.

IIRC halfords have rear mech hangers that are universal for their appollo and carrera bikes…. last time i saw one it was just up on the wall along with the rest of the stuff… not hidden behind a counter or anything.

i might be wrong, but this is what my mind is telling me.
