PRN, sleeping tablets, 3 meals, the opportunity to be rude to anyone you want, including staff and doctors you used to work with…. i’m almost tempted to do it myself!

this is a hugely uncertain time, but there will be hundreds more similar teams and stories in the coming months.

    +1

nearly every CPN or social worker working in mental health (mainly community teams)i’ve spoken to recently has expressed concern over their department or job.

fingers crossed for you B’mitch, if it all hits the fan, get yourself admitted and have some fun being the ultimate patient, free food and board after all.

What a mature thread this has turned out to be! How disappointing.

So it turns out you’re all stoners then…. better find a roadie forum.and threaten their pure ways or something

some interesting views… not enough fighting yet though… where’s the “my son smoked and now he’s not my son; i say kill all users and their babies”

    or

“i’m so stoned right now i agree with TJ AND the computer’s much more shiney than before, i like shiney things, things is a funny word isnt it? haha if you say “isnt it” quickly it sounds like “tit””

    responses?!?!?

Certainly there is a link between cannabis and mental health issues but what theat link is is still debatable. 3 hypothesis – Cause, trigger of co incidence. ie cannabis causes psychosis, cannabis acts as a trigger in susceptible individuals or people who are going to develop psychosis smoke cannabis.

    well described

I think its trigger effect myself. I know respectable successful professional people who smoke / have smoked cannabis – some a lot of it for years. If yo are not susceptible to psychosis then smoking cannabis won’t cause any great issues.

agreed, however i think its a mix of:

a)trigger efect – cannabis triggering an episode of drug induced psychosis in individuals who are pre-disposed to a mental illness when there is a strong enough trigger

(EDIT: “strong enough trigger” could be anything from a death of a relative to being fired, its entirely individual and could be anything.. although usually stressful)

b)a larger amount of people not being ashamed to admit to smoking when younger, health professionals being quick to assume that it played a part in the patients current mental state.

c)if someone smokes enough… even if they weren’t pre-disposed to psychosis, it will cause some paranoia… that level will depend on a billion different factors in that persons life and more often than not, stopping smoking will reduce/stop the paranoia

d)people with paranoia will have the problem increased by smoking

thats all from experience working with patients, working in the music industry, living with smokers… in the interests of saving people time later.. i am not willing to waste my time searching for links to back up my opinions, i’d rather post pictures of cats with odd captions

TSY, if you’re reading this… would you not care to throw in an opinion to the mix? or if not an opinion some good leading questions that get people thinking/debating more?

its not like you HAVE to come back and argue with people who disagree… leave them to it and angry at their comps due to you not responding

i’d be interesting to know your opinion :) but fair play if you cant be arsed…

fair play nonk, been in the same situation myself and had to move out after 3 months as it turned out they were spending the rent money on drugs and not paying utility bills…. mind you he was an idiot before he started smoking apparently so its hard to say.

in the interest of fairness i know some incredibly reflective smokers.

i wonder if initial IQ and level of personal development before starting smoking makes a difference to the resulting personality, or if heavy smoking sends everyone down the same pathe ventually, its just a matter of time before they end up in one of my units worrying about the goverment putting satelites in their brain.

the dope smurkers of society turn to layabout spongers who are unable to self reflect.

why would smoking cause a loss of reflection skills?

maybe it would be interesting for people to put (if they’re willing to admit) if they have “personal experience” with cannabis in their post?

**remember kids, drugs are bad mmkay**

I chose cannabis as the subject as its something a lot of people have personal experience with in one way or another…. I’d hopefully be able to safely guess that less people had the same level of experience with heroin and crack.

If i return later and check this thread to find everyone’s agreed with each other and STW has avoided arguing by heading off for a spliff together i will not be happy!

LMTTM – some very good advice here, i’d like to do a big +1 for:

    a) take some time for yourself, proper time, outside of your normal routine and get away from distractions.. ideally in the woods away from people and phone signal type thing

    b) talk to someone; vent your feelings, samaritans are good at just listening and not judging if you’d prefer to just let it all out to a stranger.

    and i’d like to add:

    c) instead of thinking “how am i going to deal with this?” try approaching it as if someone else is asking you for advice on the same issue. simple but sometimes surprisingly effective.

    d) get up half an hour earlier in the mornings and just relax before starting your day, waking up to an alarm and instantly rushing around until bedtime is rubbish, i’ve always woken up early to have 30 mins to myself before having to get ready. for some reason this helps me and has for some others i’ve suggested it to.

    e) ignore the “realise how lucky you are, go work in a hospital for babies dying of hungry genital desease” type responses. although they’re meant with the best intentions, they kinda miss the point that everyones problems are going to be seen as big or small by someone else… however that doesnt change the fact that they’re still going to effect you and be big to you as you’re the one experiencing them…

sometimes staring at people worse off makes you feel guilty about your own problems and that doesnt help at all.

    f) go jump in puddles like a kid :D

i wear a helmet because i have a high IQ and the world needs my intelligence. its my duty as a member of the human race to protect myself for the future of mankind.

therefor i suggest that those who wear helmets are awesome (much like surf-mat and I) and also that wearing a helmet is a sign of intelligence.

pretty people should be forced to wear full-face helmets as the world must protect the pretty.

(pretty can only be defined using the “Phil’s Scale of sexiness” as others opinions on what is pretty will not do)

work/life ballance is incredibly important to to, and something thats very easy to forget when you work in care.

been offered the chance to up my pay by 15k a year and my job role wouldn’t change much at all… but what it would mean is that i’d be on call 24/7 and that it would be me thats held accountable for the work of others and the stupid decisions made my head office.. at the moment when i leave work i ignore my mobile and its the MD that gets it in the neck when something gos wrong.

initially i turned down the payrise because of my commitments but now they’re gone i’m very happy i made that choice. as long as i can pay the bills i’m happy, its nice to have spare cash to buy things, its nice to be able to save, but i was just as happy/happier in a way when i took a break from nursing to deliver shopping for tescos for near minimum wage.

riding a bike in the woods away from traffic noise, hearing only the sound of nature and your wheels rolling though it is blissful, concentrating on your line through singletrack you have to focus on… turning your mind off from everything bad in the world, its beautiful and i often wonder why people come on stw to moan about the world when they could be out on a bike forgetting about it :)

Luminous (and Trout if you’re reading)

i know that being the experts you are i might be suggesting something you’ve heard a million times, so if this post is annoying then forgive me.. its written with the best intentions.

i love the idea of helmet mounting lights, however the 2 helmets i own consist of 1 p1sspot bmx/skating/snowboarding style helmet, and 1X full face mtb helmet.

the p1sspot helmets seem to vary dramatically with the venting on offer and as you move towards the ones made by mainly snowboarding based brands the venting becomes less and less but the possibility for extending a range of lights that can be mounted to SB helmets would be awesome… but i’m rambling….

in all the photos i’ve come across that show helmet mounting of lights its shown on a nice expensive “normal” mtb helmet with lots of vents…. can i suggest/request that helmet mounts are tested and have photos taken on full-face and p1sspot helemts as well as the normal ones?

again… apologies if this has been done before and i’m just being annoying!

if i can see the bottom or know the route well enough to (hopefully) assume correctly that its not going to be 4ft deep and swimming with crocs… i’ll ride through and use it as an opportunity to clean the tyres.

if i dont know the trail or it looks like there might be crocs i’ll ride around it, but i try and ride so i’m riding in the side of the puddle (a couple of inches deep) so i’m still in the puddle but not making it wider.

a mate bunny hops into every puddle and i’ve swallowed so much puddle water from his antics that he’s close to loosing a riding buddy haha

empty a spray bottle, fill it half with thick bleach and then add about a 1/4 water (leaving a 1/4 of the space in the bottle left) shake it up to make it slightly foamy and then spray all over the bathroom….. leave it to drip slowly down the tiles and then if you’re feeling like a second spray… go for it, no one will judge you (unless you’re wearing a full-face and body armour.. not getting the point of it all)

much cheaper than re-tiling or grouting 8)
