Yes. I started a thread last week sometime. It’s annoying.

That just leaves the lack of overall power for big overtakes….you just need to be honest with yourself as to how often you get to do those in today’s traffic conditions?

    Numerous times daily :D

And noticeably fewer times when I’m in our slower, less powerful van.

I’ve got a Baja Champ in the garage that hasn’t moved for a few years, I cracked the chassis, bought a replacement and I’ve never got round to refitting it. Tbh it never felt as good as the Top Force and my battery/motor combo didn’t seem to work that well so I lost interest.

I had an original Top Force. I remember my dad taking me to the shop too choose a car and a second hand (nearly new) Top Force was the car of choice.

I didn’t like the pink it had been painted though so it got a new shell ??

I used it for years but finally sold it, probably for peanuts, when I need some cash. It was quicker than my mate’s cars, had proper limited slip diffs, oil shocks and carbon fibre. I wish I hadn’t sold it, looking back I think it was a pretty decent thing ??

I’ll be keeping an eye on this out of interest. I currently drive a dirty diesel 2.0 Octavia VRS. I like it. I can’t see a 1 litre petrol equivalent being as fun, quick or easy to drive on my daily commute.

It also averages 40+mpg on my day to day twisty/fast/slow A/B road driving, and as much as 55mpg on a decent run.

I wonder how these small engined bigger cars are to live with.

Run the cable and get a wireless access point. (For a while I used an old router which was fine-ish).

For some reason the WiFi in my house doesn’t reach from one end to the other, it’s not a very big house, so we have to have an extra access point.

It works really well usually, although it’s playing up a bit at the moment and I haven’t looked in to why yet.

yes thanks mate, twas indeed a corroded ABS ring i think, got a mechanic mate to replace.

Both my rears went on my Octavia, about 1000 miles apart.

I’m a recent convert after getting a new bike back in September.

I was concerned I would miss the gears going from 3×9 to 1×11, but I don’t. I think I’ve lost a gear at each end, but really like the simpler set up and a chain that never drops.

So yeah it really works for me, it might not work for you.

My gfs 12 speed eagle is even better and she will never run out of gears.

    Glad you’ve got it sorted.
If you’ve just twisted and taped wires together though it could well go again. I’d think about ordering a new plug with repair wires and soldering & heat shrinking it.

Then again your repair could well outlast the car!

That’s not narrow wide though Rob

Maybe related, maybe not but my Chromecasts have both been dicking about this week. One needed a hard reset and the other after switching off and on a few times seems OK.
Wondered if there’s been a dodgy update recently?

I’d recommend Les Gets for a mixed family group. I really like the resort and there’s enough skiing in the Portes Du Soleil to keep everyone entertained.

It’s a bit low though so could be a bit of a gamble at New year, but Avoriaz should be OK.

I’ve got a 38 on the way from Amazon.

Grofitness Aluminum MTB Single Chainring BCD 104mm Round Chainwheel Repair Bicycle Parts (Black, 38T) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06WGQFVL9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RCbqAb2S8NEBS

Doesn’t say it’s narrow wide but the 36 I ordered last week (from the same listing) is.

May just be my style of riding but I was pedal striking constantly on technical climbs and not having Pike’s up front was really noticeable. The reviews and everyone I talk to says my riding style is a few years out of date and they are great

At first I was smacking the pedals a lot on my 2017 T130S (the 2018 has shorter cranks to help). Properly setting up the rear shock, adding some bands, has sorted it out and I very rarely get pedal strikes now.

It’s half way there. It’s now 1×9 (tbh I might keep it that way) and has some Schwalbe Big Ben 2.35 tyres.

And because everyone likes a photo

And this one shows the funky reflective sides on the tyres

(Excuse the state of the lounge).

Still looking for a cheap fork.

Mine is a Genesis Latitude re-configure for a local town/pub/run around.

The suspension fork is going and it’s (nearly) 1×9 now. I might end up going to singlespeed.

Got some skinny tyres for it but undecided if I want to use them or get something a bit grippier.

Plan is to stop using the car for all the legal running around, time will tell if it actually gets used.

I’ve ordered a 36T narrow wide (and some shorter bolts) incase I keep it 9 speed.

If it ends up SS I’ll get the on one ring, it does look nice.

Roof rack for me. As much as anything it’s because it lives on the roof permanently and is always ready to go. Storage space at home is an issue.

Getting bikes up on it is fine, I have no problem, my gf struggles occasionally if she doesn’t get it lifted up right first time.

Our van has a permanent rack on the tailgate which is much easier as it’s a fair bit lower.

Surly forks – the sus-corrected Ogre might be the one for you. I’ve been running the Instigator 1.0 forks on various (26″) bikes for over 10 years.

They look ideal, bit expensive unless I can find some secondhand.

keep seeing this thread and thinking that if we have “rigidify” we should have a little more on “singlespeed”

should I rigidify and singlespeedebee my old bike?

:D Ha, too late to edit :(

Did you remember to remove the washer before inserting the puller? That’s the usual way to strip an Octalink crank…

Yeah washer was off on both arms. I’ve given up trying to get them off, if I do ever need to I think it’ll be a job for the hacksaw and replace everything.

I’ve taken off the chainrings (cut the small one with a Dremel to split it) and am going to ride it around as 1×9 until I decide on a gear.

What sort of chain ring do I need? I’d guess at a narrow wide but currently using a 9 speed chain, which I presume won’t be compatible?

Probably looking for 36T and 104Bcd.

Cheers OCB, I’m looking for something around the 470mm length now after doing a bit of reading and having a quick measure of mine earlier.

29er forks seem to be about the right length, I’ve got my eye on some Singular Hummingbird ones but think they might be a bit short.

I had to do mine last year. Can’t remember how the air box came out off have but don’t think it was too difficult – I’d guess at just tugging it and the rubber mounts coming undone.

My issue was a broken wire right near the plug on top of the switch. I soldered in a new section, heat shrinked it and wrapped it back up.

You’ve probably found this thread but it’s got a couple of pics on. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/228930-reverse-sensor-switch-location/?tab=comments#comment-4782519

We went last year, spent half the time staying in the car park at Lac D’Ecoles in Les Gets.

Also stayed at Camping Le Frene for a couple of nights. Don’t think it has a shop but baker comes in the mornings. And has a pool and lovely view across Les Gets.

Bit far up the hill to make it an easy walk or pedal though, but you can get lift up Mont Chery and it’s downhill from there.

I’ve got a Funn stem on my proper bike, it’s only 35mm and I very much doubt I would ever notice any difference if I bought anything posher.

I’ve just put one on my new hard tail too, with £25 Funn bars too. Seem to do the job well enough.

Oh didn’t realise I’d be able to get it off without removing it.

I did think I’d need a different ring though anyway to keep the chain on, or will it be OK with the original?

    phil5556

I was about to start investigating my cranks and see if I could leave just a single chain ring on it, but didn’t want to come off. The thread stripped with ease

Going to try a gear puller but will probably end up cutting the spindle and fitting a new BB. which is a shame as the one on it is still perfectly good.

I have to admit I don’t understand the singlespeed thing – especially not for road use. If it were me I’d go 1×9 on the cheap if you’ve got most of the bits already.

I live on the coast, this will only get used locally and there’s no hills. I might try it as 1×9 at first (less hassle initially) while I decide what gear to go with. If I find I’m changing gear all the time then I can scrap the SS idea :D

I’ve just got some Nukeproof Horizon Comp plastic pedals. Only screwed them on this morning and ridden round the block but seem solid enough and grippy. About the same size platform as my vaults.

I’ve just wrapped old inner tube around my new bike chain stay. Cut a length about 25mm wide, cable tied at the end and wrapped it tight on its self. Surprised how well it went on tbh.
