Cheers, I’ve watched a video now. I’ll order a cheap case opener and give it a go, with tiny nudges.

I wear it most of the time apart from when I swap to my Garmin either for a few days at a time or holidays etc. So it doesn’t sit around too much.

The little screw pot with +/- next to it?

Worth a go I guess… How much of a turn is it likely to need? And presumably turn it to + to speed it up?

Is it as simple as that?

I’m rubbish at swimming too, I can chug on with breast stroke for ages but don’t move particularly quickly. Front crawl is a big splashy mess of arms and legs.

I have considered getting some lessons because I spend a fair amount of time in the sea kitesurfing, which is all fine until you lose your kite.

I’m also Lifeboat crew, but no one asked if I could swim :-)

Accuracy should be -20 to +40 seconds a day for a Seiko 5. There’s no real point in servicing a cheap watch, a new movement will be cheaper. If you send it away for a service that’s what they’ll do.

I downloaded one of those accuracy checking apps and it is running about 160secs a day slow.

So who would I send it off to for a new movement?

I seem to have an odd shape head so struggled a bit with finding one that fits. I wanted a Pro Frame but neither the current or previous versions fit well. Same with the Endura.

Bell fit well so I’ve got a Super Air, but it’s not DH rated and the chin bar is a bit flimsy although it has saved me a couple of times in medium crashes. The Super DH is a step up and the chin bar feels but more sturdy and is DH rated, obviously overall it’s not as light and airy – I’ve just bought one but haven’t worn it yet.

IMG_1577Too late, Bezos has delivered and it’s all up and running.

3 wired Decos, painless set up. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

This from a previously terrible part of the house :-)

Well after a reboot of the router this is better.

Like i say, the actual speed to the router and over Ethernet is fine and sometimes the wifi is fine too, this is my phone just now.

Ta. The Deco I’ve gone for is dual band and I do have ethernet cables at each point that I want them, so I should be good to go :-)

I like the one with the “proper” boot on it. In Brabus flavour.

    (although not necessarily that one)

This seems like the place to ask…

I have a Seiko 5 that is about 5 years old. It used to keep great time, only really noticing it had lost any time after maybe 5 days or so. Now I’m having to wind it forward a couple of minutes every day or so (I’ll check more accurately soon).

If I got it serviced would it likely improve, how accurate is acceptable for an automatic? I know I could nearly get a new one for the price of a service, but that’s not the point.

    It looks like this

There really is no point surely?

Sometimes after an early shift I’m a fan of an afternoon nap, can’t beat Tipping Point to fall asleep too :-)

Yes I’m sure I could find it on the STV app but I’m not that invested in watching it.

There’s no such thing as self cleaning.

Maybe not self cleaning but it does seem to have made it more repellent to muck sticking to it.

Is the Apex crank direct mount like my Rival cranks?

If so you can just swap to a direct mount ring.

Thanks everyone, looks like we are thinking along the right lines.

(Also – if its a Charger 3 damper, there’s a reason they’ve just released the 3.1, and that’s because the 3 was universally considered to be overdamped.)

    I’m going to go & check if it’s a 3 or 3.1 damper. I don’t think it’s the latest 3.1 as it’s a 2023 fork. I think.

    @benpinnick
That’s interesting thanks, she did indeed buy the bike from you :-) We’re off to Wales at the end of October, I don’t think we’ll have to time to do anything with it before then but might well be in touch when we’re back, in the meantime I’ll check for tokens and make sure the compression is all open. I guess the lighter oil is the first step before going down the re-tuning route, is that something you also would do?

She loves the bike BTW – very happy wife! :-)

Might be of interest or not…

2 bikes, 2 new drivetrains. Both done about 10 near enough identical rides. Both cleaned properly with chain cleaner at the start of this trip, ridden twice and hosed off between rides (to get rid of particularly sandy / gritty muck) and lube re-applied after.

These pics are halfway through the 3rd ride.

First pic using Lifeline Dry. Second pic using Peaty’s All Weather.

From this unplanned experiment I’ll be sticking to Peaty’s as it does seem to work as advertised: “Peaty’s LinkLube actually cleans your chain as you use it!”

I’ve been playing in the Highlands on mine the last couple of days, turns out  it’s the perfect Torridon bike.

Yes mine is very quiet too.

I’d do a bit of measuring of your legs, seat tube length plus crank length and see where you’re at. Then get the longest you can fit in the frame.

    To actually answer the question…

I’m using Lebara (in my campervan) which runs on Vodafone. It works well and was a cheap deal through USwitch.

Edit: Just realised you might have meant 25GB total, in which case Vodafone & Three both used to do 12 or 24 month prepaid sims but I couldn’t find one last time I looked.

Think I used to use a Vodafone one that was 24GB valid for 24 months.

    Thanks.

I was going to order it but I’m sure it was £40 when I first looked then went up to £50?

I’ve had good luck with Curry’s eBay outlet for ex display. Had a phone and more recently a Mac Book – both looked brand new.

    Otherwise the Apple refurb store.

I’ve been using Finish Line Dry and putting up with it not being the best in wet weather. The fact that it stays so clean and doesn’t go black & gloopy makes up for the amount it needs reapplying.

    BUT

I’m going to try something a bit more long lasting that will hopefully stand up better to the wet. Just not quite sure what yet.

I’ve been a longish term user of deathgrips but they don’t last long at all and once worn are mega slippery when wet.

I’ve just swapped over to Burgtec Bartenders and they feel as / more grippy and will hopefully last longer.

My new bike has come with some OneUp grips which so far feel pretty good too.

@squirrelking yeah you’re likely right, which is why I haven’t ever got around to actually getting any. But they’re getting cheaper and if they’re a bit of a deterrent for that one time someone decides they want to check my garage out then May be worth it?

A buy one get one free offer for Eufy kept coming up on Amazon but I couldn’t actually get it to work.

Mine’s been nagging me for years…

Probably because for years I have used the same password for an awful lot of things.

I’m slowly getting through changing them.

Do they still use the headset with the crappy plastic tapered preload jobbie?  This was the cause of noise on our MK1 Rises.  Swapped the top headset parts out for Hope and noise went away.

I came here to write exactly this.

The Acros headset in mine was shocking, it needed tightening after every ride. Haven’t touched the Hope one since I fitted it. No idea of the current rise is the same though?

    Nice one @tetrode

I Invisiframed mine in a bit of a rush so that I could ride it the next day, there’s a couple of little bits that aren’t perfect.

Mine’s had a couple of outings and I’m enjoying it so far :-)

Ohlins suspension is taking a bit longer than I’m used to setting it up but it’s nearly there.

I’ve done a lot of climbing on it and initial impressions are that it climbs really well and it’s quick on the way down.

A sign that Garmin’s user interface is still a bit rubbish. Every Garmin I’ve ever used has been an exercise in frustration.

Yeah it could be a lot better, but it’s not too bad once it’s all set up.

Yeah I run a 160mm Lyrik Ultimate on mine with a Slacker headset.

Doesn’t climb quite as well but it’s better coming down.
