Cheers. New mech bought. All working well except…setting up the rear derailleur is hell. Never done it before. Wish I kept it SS at the moment!

Core 40 here. Love love love it. My favourite ride. Also have an iO which is a lovely bike too. Friend has a Aether, which is a great cheap roadie. Really rate Genesis.

    Are you still building Sunday?

I’m back in Southampton for Sunday. Will keep an eye on this thread to see if you’re still going then.

Had my first (hopefully of many) quantocks ride today. Went from Holford – found an awesome run from Bicknoller Post down to Lady’s Edge (though obviously no secret). Great ride in all though. Where else is good on the ‘tocks?

I think it’s fairly well vented already – but you’re probably correct with the night sky radiation.

Agree with the insulation being in contact with the surface which is why I’ve been reluctant to fit Kingspan so far. Spray foam might be the next step then. It’s not cheap though.

Found mould on saddles and bar tape so would rather get it fixed. There is a DPC on the floor so it probably isn’t coming up – I like the carpet idea still. Nice ideas for cheap insulation – was worried I was looking at some sort of expensive closed cell spray foam arrangement! Now I’m thinking kingspan and glue.

This will cover the air gap. Should I fit an airbrick or is it best to not bother with airflow, it’s not a heated space.

Any one used epoxy paint/sealant as a moisture repelent – I understand these cement roof tiles are pourus.

As for security. It’s the best I have so will have to do. Going to fit a garage defender ASAP, and we’re in a pretty friendly/neighbourhood watchy low crime cul-de-sac kind of area – and the other garages in the block look more inviting that ours to thieves (dark corners and lax security) – unless they spy what I’ve got in there of course!

Another +1 for Smudge. Bought an XML for Erlestoke earlier this year, it was fantastic – and an absolute bargain. Smudge was a pleasure to deal with too.

Was in a similar situation a month ago. Giant and Trek sized up very differently for me. Trying them for size is most important.

Defy didn’t fit me at all in any size. Went for a Trek 2.1 (Leopard colours) and couldn’t be happier. If you’re not fussy about the colours a 2011 2.1 can be found for around £850 IIRC – there are also some great deals on the 2011 Giant TCR2 around, which sizes differently to a Defy. I wanted guard mounts so went for the Trek.

Also – Anyone with any of these bikes offer an opinion?

A friend of a friend did, until recently, hold the the record for SDW each way in under 24 alpine style. He’s a rep for ‘dale, cx and road racer and all round bloody nice guy. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you gave him a shout – @cottydale on twitter – if you tweet. I also know @johnmcfaul and @james_bowthorpe aborted an each way attempt earlier this summer and might be worth asking.

It’s certainly possible, but it’s bloody tough. Me, I’m psyching myself up for a one way in two day attempt! But, then I saw you sprint past me many a time at Erlestoke – I was pretty much in awe of your stamina!

    Toe overlap?

    petestuart
    Free Member

Kona PW has toe overlap which is a little annoying on a fixed – at least my 2009 model did.

If I were buying another I’d get a Genesis Day or a Charge Plug. Mind you that Ridgeback looks ace…

I’m doing it for the same reasons – riding round the docks which are usually closed off (and something I think Southampton should make a feature of, being it’s biggest… feature!)

Somehow I’ve ended up volunteering to marshal! I’ll be on a Genesis iO – possibly with a Bumper trailer (if it turns up tomorrow) so I can take my daughter round. I’ll look out for you.

That’s my thought. What lights do people advise though, and how many for a decent light to work by…?

Well I *only* tried for 3 pairs of tickets = £300, but my story is the same – Nowt.

I was moaning on Twitter about it then realised I’m certainly not the only one; Bradley Wiggins tweeted that his Wife and Kids did’t get any tickets so will have to watch his team pursuit on telly. Ridiculous!

It’s a proper mess up. Gutted.

My 3 man team (was four but one dropped out on Friday) managed 25th in the 12h team event. 13 laps, and I was the one that got the 5th in the dark! We were chuffed as you like with that. Some of you heroes were absolutely flying – even in the dark. And you soloists… unbelievable! This was the first time any of us had entered an event like it and well… what an event it was. Great course, great crowd, great prizes and freebies (cheers Charge) – Hope it’s back next year. I’ve been aching today mind.

Big thanks to the guy who stopped to check I was ok, after braining myself on the low hanging branch as the route entered the woods after the ridgeline sprint… My head still hurts.

Used to ride 48:16 fixed on my Paddy Wagon. Great commuter bike. Flats and uphills were no probs but downhills were a bit sketchy at times. Riding a Genesis iO currently at 32:16 free and although it’s a bit spinny on the flats I’m not finding it too dull. I’m learning to spin to keep momentum but it’s not nearly as fast as the fixed! Tempted to get a flip flop hub so I can ride it fixed too..

The council is committed to address the loss of open space resulting from this development

Does this mean WCA’s plans will be more likely as a result of the loss of the BMX track?

I use a Kodak Playsport at home, and a Flip Ultra at school(work).

Both are very easy to use with great pictures and sound.

Kodak edges it for me as its a little more robust, waterproof, cheaper and has slightly better video quality to my eyes. Though the sound is lower and it doesn’t look as … shiny! Flip is easier to transfer video to computer as the usb is built in. It’s also (slightly) easier for younger kids to use. But it is a bit ‘precious’ being shiny and expensive. Everyone will say Flip. They are very good – but give the Kodak a thought.

Kodak will do 1080p, 720p and 60fps @ 720p. Also has WVGA and a 5mp still. For under £100 its brilliant.

Also in a similar position. Though looking second hand – probably a low spec Trek or Ribble. What is the Ribble lottery?

I’ll pop into the hub soon to sign the petition.

Ran the Horseplay tonight. Not quite as tough as the Deerstalker I understand but tough enough for me. Great events the RatRace things. Done quite a few now.

Our little one is 11 days old now. We’re using a second hand Quinny buzz with a new maxi-cosi car seat. We also have a sling. Went second hand because, as already suggested, we plan on selling it on shortly after she can sit up properly. Quinny are very popular so there are heaps on ebay!

Generally all buggies seem overpriced piles of metal and plastic.
City jogger are worth a look for the collapsing method, out n about looked good for price also. Depends on your needs though – long walks, popping to the shops, off-roading!

Our decision hinged on easy use of car seat with buggy and ability for baby to face parent.

Best of luck on your buggy hunt, and for the birth and then on. It’s been an amazing and wonderful first couple of weeks for us – though the nights are long, enjoy the sleep now!

I’m attempting Welsh Cakes today. A little late to be topical but I love them.

On the flapjack front try these, the tahini turns syrup a fudgy consistency. No crumbly granola effect. Very tasty. I sometimes leave the sesame seeds out as the taste is quite strong.

Wow. Thanks for the response guys. I need to do a bit of research I think. Can’t promise I won’t mail you for some more advice on your suggestions.

Jammy – I’m super impressed, looks really great – bit put off by the homebrew battery bit. I’m usually well up for a bit of bodging but I think I just want a fit and forget (bar the battery situation!)

Think the bar and helmet combo is the way to go though.

    Thanks again folks.

I have a Genesis core 50. Absolutely love it. Most confident I’ve ever felt on a bike. Great forks over the 40 too. Also looks stunning IMHO! Do it.
