dunno about the two frames, but i had a PX carbon bike with internal routing. It broke, two weeks out of warranty. Bit of an argument later i got a Ti bike off them (a sample, made by serotta in america, so not entirely comparable to a pickenflick).

Worlds of difference. The Ti is much more comfortable, more composed under pressure, and you get the impression it’s not going to break anytime soon.

So yes, spend the extra £200. People can be too obsessed over weight, and 500g. Get it for comfort and longevity.

Point of note is that Gmail ignores dots
You learn something every day….I’ve only had a gmail address since 2005.

I didn’t know that – and I’ve had one for twelve years or so

it’ll please the wife – people keep missing out one letter in the middle (which annoys some woman in america who then gets them by mistake)

I think that Samsung signed an exclusive with ITV for their player. Thought that had lapsed

It looks like it’s still not on panasonic though

I have the wahoo. Once you’ve set it up – with the phone – you don’t need the phone again. But you can – if you want – customize en route. Get the phone, fiddle a bit, and two secs later your new metric is on wahoo.

It will load via wifi as soon as you’ve pressed stop; get an alert from the auto link to strava generally before I’ve opened the back door.

The wahoo is much more user friendly and has a much more readable screen. The route mapping (only through RideWithGPS admittedly) is excellent, with the LEDs adding a bit of a hint.

No complaints with it at all. Battery life seems very good. Move away from the crappy garmin software.

Course, dunno what it’s like with an Android phone. Apparently not quite as good, but that’s partly as it was helped to fruition by apple.

database admin for a massive manufacturer.

It’s good. Easy enough – a lot is experience. Knowing when to panic and when to not.

It’s easier (less stressful) than being a DBA at a big law firm in London. Twenty minutes drive, or a decent hilly cycle. Flexible, bit of travel. Pays the bills.

I could be earning a lot more back in london, but why bother? I earn enough to do what I and the family want. Why kill yourself for mammon?

It’s not what I did at uni. Not what I wanted to do. But needs must :D

sod the pub crawl. Just sit in the Market Porter and work your way through the 10 odd beers and whatever ciders they have on. Stumble out to get food at the market.

as an extra the wine society are trying to broaden their membership; young females are the target at the moment.

but it is well worth the £20 membership (£40 but £20 credit)

a panda is of course the same as a fiat 500. With a different top.

And slightly less street cred.

but they are half the price.

we had issues with the line recently (was water in the cabinet down the road). They got openreach out a lot quicker than BT have in the past.

Call centre in Glasgow as well.

sorry – been a while since we’ve been over, but the wife lived there for 2 years. Soumenlinna in the summer was amazing. And going to a wedding in the vanhakirkko, with reception on one of the inlets was the best wedding ever.

Seeing all the locals cleaning rugs down at the harbour when the place wakes up in spring, or participating in the sauna to harbour invigorating experience in winter (ice kept away by a small electric cable in the water). Going to Leningrad Cowboy bar till 4 in the morning, and coming out and it’s brighter than summer here. So many happy times.

spent an awful lot of time here – lunchtimes, and especially evenings.

Probably all changed now.

it was probably a queen wasp. they obviously hibernate over winter (otherwise there’d be no wasps….). The warmish weather (or logs being brought in) will wake them up.

And the fens and norfolk had malaria for centuries. If you read history books and see a disease called the ague – it’ll be that.

I studied parasitology at uni – parasites are really amazing adapters for life. They help drive evolution.

this lot

Sold out a few years ago; becoming a bit too commercial and less boutigue-y now. Even the Bell at Aldworth didn’t have any last time I was there.

so also this – still made by one bloke (and five daughters). And delightful.

this lot is near to work. Very small, very friendly, and excellent beer. My go to brewery for the odd polypin

I think with the computers at that sort of price is that (even at Decathlon) they’re not Bluetooth or ANT+. Technology is obviously still too expensive.

sounds like a job for the Wahoo RFLKT

To quote “Keep your smartphone safely tucked in your jersey pocket and access all of your App data from your bars. RFLKT displays speed, distance, time, heart rate, and other sensor data reflected from your smartphone.”

Course, you might as well just go for its bigger brother and get the automatic uploads etc. It’s generally uploaded the ride to Strava before I’ve got my shoes off.

I’ve just invested in one of these. Pretty impressed so far. Very bright, decent length of light as well (not just a spot), and as it’s shining down as well it lights you up even more.

Fits on the seat post, so mostly covered in the event of rain. I’ve got flexi mudguards on that have a break near the brake, so the brake gets mucky, but the light is still in a pristine condition.

Edit – just seen the reviews since I’ve bought it. Oh well. Mine seems okay. So far.

I had two quotes for my work; my usual tree surgeon said four people, all day. £800

And then – as i say – it was £400. Two people though. So (even my addled brain can work out) the price appears £200 a day per person

again, all detritus left.

today I’m working at home, as I’ve had the tree surgeons around. Reduce three yews from 40ft to 6ft. And take down a 50ft dead cherry.

£395.

However, i will be getting rid of all the brush. And there’s a lot…he did say if i wasn’t doing it, it would be two men for two days to chip it.

it is coming up to the time of year where we can climb the ridgeway to the best pub in the world, have a few pints, then try not to fall off back into the village at 2am.

There’s always one that doesn’t bring lights.

Can’t wait

Funnily enough I went out Tuesday as well. Just a quick 30k; absolutely lovely. Very quiet, moon was up, deer and owls were about.

Shame the weather’s changed again, but next week looks okay

excellent bit in today’s Private Eye about how, when JC does weekend work (like the Andrew Marr show), he gets time off in lieu the following week. Bless.

Hate to think what would happen if he were PM and there was a weekend national disaster. You wouldn’t see him for days afterwards.

Here maps is free and offline. It was one of the only benefits of a windows phone. Now of course it’s off there, but on iPhones (and I assume android).

Very good. Used it all around Europe. Your only limit is the amount of space. Obviously the traffic alerts don’t work offline

I have (and have had) many.

They’re pretty good. Better than lewins but not the best obv. I know what fits well, so generally buy five/ten a year. Always in a deal. Rarely buy cufflinks ones, and they have a better selection of buttoned cuffs than others.

They don’t half bombard you with offers though. Never pay full price!
