We got two of those explorer k2 inflatables. Quickly had to replace one due to puncture. Then replaced another due to split.

Then gave one to the school fete as a silent auction prize and bought three sit on tops instead.

    Inflatables canoes are rubbish

nokia was bought by microsoft, who then changed CEO, and wrote off the $7bn, and windows phone as an OS (for the time being).

the old finnish nokia managers then got backing and spent $350m buying the name back. There are four phones (3,5,6 and 8 or 9). And the 3310 of course.

The smart phones get very good reviews indeed. Apparently £100 for the cheapest, £150 for the 5, and £200 for the 6. No idea on the 8 (or 9) yet.

Are they better than (say) the vodafone own branded ones, which get excellent reviews as well? Dunno, but will be interesting to see.

the elemnt is very good indeed, excellent in fact. But i noticed it’s not as cheap as it was at Xmas. Brexit? Or more sales negating the need for discounts?

    @shanta

i used my HR monitor last night – it did the usual up and down with the HR over time (and hills). And obviously when I got back it was back to normal very quickly

    Yours sounds a bit dicky.

    I always look at decathlon.

I’ve got one of these, but they appear to have replaced it. There’ll be an equivalent though.

Pedal Norfolk is a lovely event. I’m gutted I’m not there this year.

Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

    cheek!

my px ti sample was made by Saratoga Frameworks; the remnants of Serotta after they went bust.

It’s very good American titanium. The remnants of Saratoga are now #22; mine is basically the same as this, including the lovely anodizing.

It was going to be the equivalent of the Lynskey made PX branded ti bikes (apart from mine hasn’t cracked yet), but Saratoga then went bust as well. All got a bit messy

    Great bike though.

it took me many years to get mine under control (and still is).

Best thing was realising it’s not eczema, but Seb Derm. Putting all the creams on was making it worse. It wasn’t flakes of dry skin i had, but the equivalent of dandruff on the face and arms. You need to kill the fungus that causes it.

So moved away from all lotions (apart from one occasionally, which you can’t buy here). Away from shower gel. Now it’s just soap, and proper exfoliation with a flannel. Old school really. First couple of months were hard, as the skin has to get used to it’s own oil production again. But it’s worth it.

Other thing is sunlight. Or more importantly Vitamin D. So in the autumn, winter, spring I now take 50mcg a day. Seems to work.

Now obviously everyone is different. What worked for me may (probably won’t) work for you. But it may not be eczema

i’ve got a elemnt, and use the HR on that and with the Suunto watch.

Never had any issues; might be slightly high (got up to 195 in a run the other week), but it does come back to normal when I stop. Resting according to it is about 55 so seems rightish (and obviously that’s without any a lot of sweat)

no good for you as you’ve got accommodation, but we’ve stayed in Carisbrooke Castle for a few holidays.

You’re the only ones in there; they lock the gates and leave you. You can walk the rampants all night. The kids loved it – and talk about the holidays even now. It really is ace; extremely atmospheric.

    Just don’t fall off.

you can still get Win10 direct from Microsoft, for free. If you ‘use’ assistance technology.

    It doesn’t say what that/they are/should be.

I’ve done it. No issues at all. See the guardian here

I have a Spa Cycles ‘Swift’ – aka the Aire Titanium.

Very good actually; little firm to start off with, but my posterior is now the last appendage to complain, rather than the first, on a long cycle.

Bit cheaper than the Brooks equivalent.

Especially – it seems – for off road stuff.

Probably less people using it though!

ours seems pretty un-corrupt as they go. He’s apparently the richest MP and worth £110m. And his private chapel is being by used by Her Royal Bottomness to get married in a couple of weeks, so he’s already got influence.

To be fair, he’s not bad. Stands up in parliament, asks vaguely searching questions, and campaigned to stay in the EU.

if you’re in wallingford, just head to the end of Rectory Road in Streatley, and go up the Ridgeway to Ardington, come down to Stanmore, then back to the Ridgeway, and back to Streatley. Only 30km or so, and no real hills (apart from the first one…)

I never spend above £10 for pair of trousers

with a name like ‘anus’ i’m not surprised.

i generally get mine in a sale. Used to be Banana Republic till they shut. Then i left that there London, and my shopping choices became limited. So it’s now Fatface, when they’re about £15. And i buy a few pairs at once, so they last

everything comes out of my account; mrs petec uses my credit card (only thing she puts on hers is a haircut, after i expressed surprise once. And if i’m lucky she’ll remember to use hers on my birthday present).

this is mostly a tax thing (she pays less), and also cos i’d probably spend it. So i end the month on £0 in the bank, but if i need any money, then she’ll transfer some in; there’s no restrictions. Otherwise hers is saved, but i’ve no idea what she actually does with it 8O

Basically, what’s mine is hers. And what’s hers is hers  . Unless i need it. Or she wants a new bathroom or flat roof. It’s worked for 22 years so it seems to work.

excellent old tents. My parents had one. Very heavy but effective. Survived the Esk flooding in Boot in 1990.

However, the waterproofing on the back of the flysheet doesn’t last 10 years wrapped up in the loft.

    Bitter experience told me this.

mentioned before but get the suunto ambit 3 from wiggle. The special exclusive etc is £219. It’s an ambit 3.5 really; more functions and better GPS than the normal ambit3.

no issues with software, navigating, finding GPS, anything really. Can’t understand why people do Garmin. Made in Finland not China as well.

Wife has a tomtom; mine finds the satellites at a lot quicker and has infinitely customizable screens. And comes with the equivalent of relive.cc for runs and hikes.

You’ll know then that any overspray will kill grass!

No it won’t. They have different hormones. It’s like you not being affected by glyphosphate, yet it kills plants. Or insecticides that target juvenile hormones. They will not work on anything else.

Grasses are completely different to broadleaved weeds; there’s no way an overspray will kill them.

It may burn them – similar to too much iron sulphate – but it won’t kill grass.

    Even the RHS says so

Hormone or growth-regulating weedkillers (such as 2,4-D from lawn weedkillers or rough grassland weedkillers like Vitax SBK Brushwood Killer containing triclopyr) leave grasses unharmed but can cause damage to broad-leaved plants.

Broad leaf herbicides depend on surface area of the leaf. Grass ha a a thin leaf so absorbs less. One spray won’t affect it

selective herbicides don’t work on the size of the leaf. They work on the differences between monocotyledons (grass etc) and dicotyledons (weeds)

that one from Whitchurch to Goring used to be great when there was nothing but steps. Riding down the steps used to be ace.

then the national trust put in a path.

Back when the Hairy Legs was a proper Biathlon it was on the route. One dog walker complained (about 300 cyclists coming at him 8O ) and it got changed to two runs instead. Still ace.

i went up foxes tarn last week from the pike to Scafell with a 10 year old, who loves walking/climbing. We sat at Mickledore for a few minutes discussing options; I pointed out the possibility of loose rock on Lord’s Rake and he agreed we should do Foxes. He loved that though.

Started from Wasdale, up to Styhead, over Great End etc, to the pike, then to Scafell and back down to Wasdale via Green How. It was 15km, and took about 5’30”. Hopefully you can see this. Ignore the dithering at the start (took the wrong map!) Lovely day – and he loved it

Did Great Gable from Wasdale the next day – very good climbing, but very misty

funnily enough my latest fad is to replace our rubbish pergola (rotting, unusable etc) with something like this, with a pizza oven built in.

Obviously my man skills are rubbish, so I had a look around and there are places like here who can do things.

They may be able to do something – bi fold door style

    i have a 59 panda as a run around.

can easily fit a road bike in the back, been reliable so far with nothing really changed in the four years I’ve had it. Get 58mpg easily, fine up to 65mph (then starts getting a bit bouncy).

Keep thinking I should change (to something like a mini), but the car does the job. Gets from A to B easily, relative comfort (not for long journeys, obv), cheap, etc
