My wife logs everything, so I can tell you we spent £3972.69 on shopping last year. That’ll be sainsburys/waitrose/tesco/ocado deliveries, spot of Aldi, etc

That works out as £331.06 per month (£76.40 a week), for a family of four (12 yo daughter, 10 yo son). Obviously August was less, december was more.

Doesn’t include meals out, and most of the alcohol was bought in france, so is separate. The odd school/work lunch won’t be in there, but mostly it’s sandwiches for all.

Hardly any ready made food, and not that much meat (but when we do, we don’t hold back on quality)

I got a dodgy copy of these from Ebay and China. Cost me £18, plus a fiver postage.

Very warm…and incredibly comfy.

Obviously have to go barefoot in them though – unless you get these as well

buy it from john lewis. They price match up to 28 days after you’ve bought it. And it comes with a five year guarantee.

Why wouldn’t you?

i’m a dba. Most of my job consists of making sure all is working fine, running a few scripts etc. I may look at the internet or read a kindle whilst running long queries. It may look like i’m slacking. I’m not.

And when the poo hits the spinning thing, i can guarantee i’m the one still there fixing things. I’ve also had many, many years of hard work and learning stuff getting to this stage.

loved it – went in about 1999/2000; before the war was over. Loads of checking of bags, and road check points.

We hired a driver for a week (driver’s used to get free accommodation – he wasn’t used to our level of hotel!).

Immediately left Columbo, and went to Kandy. Couple of days there, then to Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya (and World’s End) and then to a shack on the beach in Mirissa. I doubt that’s there now, after the Tsunami a decade ago. Day trip to Galle.

Lovely country, amazing sites. Hot, but that wasn’t an issue. Nurawa Eliya was cooler.

Course, don’t know what it’s like now. The Buddhists cracked down on the Tamils a bit more, then the war was over. So it’s probably safer, but would it be any better?

i very much enjoyed the boot inn, in boot.

Lovely spot. Quieter than most in the lakes. But you can do all from the front door if you want.

the wahoo elemnt just works. Never had any issues at all with it.
My Wahoo Elemnt Bolt is amazing value for money compared to the equivalent Garmin.
Not sure I even understand the question.

Bez posted a link up ^^^ to a long review he wrote and has gone back to a Garmin so clearly don’t work for everyone.

To be fair to Wahoo, Bez’s complaint was over navigation. Nothing else. (as an aside, Bez’s Wahoo is also not the Elemnt, but the Elemnt Bolt. Which is quite a lot smaller. So shows less detail…)

I’ve never noticed the battery drain on my phone either. I know it’s not conclusive proof that there is none, but neither is his blog that there is an issue.

It may not be touch screen or full colour mapping, but is that something you really need? Surely it’s worth not having if you can have something that does work…

if you need it for the retrieval of data in sequence (DB2?), are you sure that data sequence doesn’t care about the uniqueness of C, but needs it for A and B? Without knowing DB2 too well, it’s hard to tell, but it is superfluous from a T-SQL aspect.

developers love indexes (indices? -indexes just sounds wrong to me). That and functions. I bleeding hate functions; saved 35 mins on one process changing from a function to a simple table lookup.

i have one table in one DB that has 150Gb of data and 560Gb of indexes. They refuse to entertain the thought of removing them, despite me showing they’re not used.

Which brings me to my main point (sorry, rambling). Check whether the index is being used here; if not, get rid. If it is, you can tell what is using it, and then see whether that should.

having just done the croatian islands, there were a few cruise ships. Big ones, party boats, but some ‘normal’ ships. About 20 cabins, decent stuff, nice locations. Mostly Katarina Line. Looked good.

mine was the same as DanW; albeit during rugby. Not nice. Still got a dent in my shin.

good few months in a full leg cast, and then no rugby for over a year.

Whole thing had been exacerbated by the ambulance strike at the time, so lay there for 3 hours till two 70 year old St John’s Ambulance chaps turned up. The rest of the team had been on the beers by that point, so came to “help” put me in the ambulance.

We’ve been a few times now with family – been to de Kempervennen (real ski slope, close to the Belgium border) and de Eemhof (boating, further north). Also been to Thetford.

There is no comparison. I wouldn’t go to a UK one again, but a Dutch one, definitely

We generally get the ferry to Calais, pootle along the coast to Amsterdam or Bruges, spend a day or so there, then head to centre parcs. Then on the way back you can the Somme/war graves etc. Take the bikes obviously. Decent cycling for the kids as it’s dead flat (obv) and decent cycle paths.

And obviously pick up a decent amount of beer/wine etc (L’Auchan in Grande Synthe…)

I think the one we went to in April was about €1200 for a week. That was for a 12 person flat, VIP, free wifi, free bread everyday etc etc. Top floor, overlooking the marina and lake. Amazing sunsets.

I think the equivalent in Thetford etc was about £2500.

Obviously you have to get the shuttle/boat and drive to Dover, but you can go to Harwich

Any questions, just ask

I love the route from Wasdale Head, up Lingmell beck to Styhead, over Great End etc. Then over Mickledore to Scafell and back down to Wasdale

did it with my 10 year old son recently (well, april). Lovely walk, and quieter than most of them up the hill

L’Auchan (supermarket) have a decent range of wine called La Selection.

They’re generally reliable, have a wide [French] range and are pretty cheap (about €4-5).

Generally ignore the boxes on offer at the end of aisles; would you buy it in the UK??

And visit a cider farm, buy some. And pommeau, and calvados. And honey. All excellent.

mum’s been coeliac for 70 years, since before it was officially a thing. Spent the first 5 years eating nowt but bananas really, and helped get coeliac society going properly in the 80s (there’s a reason it’s in HW). They used to produce a little booklet saying what was gluten free and what wasn’t (one i remember growing up was mini mars bars were okay, but normal ones weren’t).

It’s a lot better than it was (my grandmother (mum’s MiL) used to ask if cakes/biscuits/puddings were made with her ‘special flour’ and if so she’d go without). We were the only family to make pizza, never eat pasta etc. A decent bread maker has made a lot of difference to her.

It does really depend on how bad you are; you need to find your tolerance. It’ll take time.

As for beer, just rediscover the delights of craft cider!

not really. I just use them as waterproof trainers :-) But i think they’re sold as approach shoes.

i have both quecha boots and approach shoes. Both excellent, and wouldn’t hesitate to replace them with another pair from there.
