I’m guessing that’s a sister station to JackFM – which is actually quite good

i just use spotify now, and explore the music there. Either the tailored Daily Mix lot, or some pre-configured ones.

Now on one called ‘Transistor – apparently ‘Great tunes old and new, for fans of real music’. Not dissimilar to the ethos behind 6music, but no annoying DJs.

as, to be fair, all heads of state are. It’s just she has it slightly longer than most.

i have an kindle voyage (which they no longer make). Excellent, better than the paperwhite at the time, but I think the features of the voyage are now in the paperwhite
I really couldn’t cope without mine now

the targeted adverts aren’t generally an issue; never notice them. You can – apparently – get in contact with amazon, and complain, and they’ll take them off….

The beer price in the biology/medical bar at uni was something completely random like 84p. No rounding up then – it made a difference!

Well possibly on the food front (although no curry/chinese/thai/italian etc) – but the wine prices then

A glass of wine for 84p

    are you related or something?

Got a lot of [older] family up there; it’s gone from being a sleepy backwater to immensely popular, and the roads haven’t coped. The tractor/sugar beet lorry drivers will still pull out in front you like they always did, and a lot of people aren’t used to it. Coupled with the boy racers of Lynn (look at all the roadside memorials on the single carriage way stretch of the A47), a lot of the roads are dangerous.

you’ve not seen quiet until you’ve driven out to Terrington Marsh on a dank February afternoon. The thought of growing up there…

And yeah, the speed limit was planned to be reduced in exactly that spot.

Announced they are reducing the speed on that road today and placing cameras

Amazing how they managed to do it some time ago. This is from March last year

    https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/average-speed-cameras-between-kings-lynn-and-hunstanton-1-5422066

    or last week https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/politics/where-are-average-speed-cameras-on-a149-1-5847833

mentions the Babingley turn where the accident happened.
Now I really don’t know what happened, but a conspiracy theory is a bit much.

Hang on though, I’ve read 1984. Maybe there’s a whole team sat in a massive building changes old news reports to fit the new normal. Doubleplusgood.

Response of the authorities is that they’ll lower speed limit on the road

They were discussing it anyway. Knowing something of how councils work, this will have been in the pipeline for years.

If you are not safe you are not safe.

There’s no idea whether he was safe or not at the moment. Only those involved will know. Anything else is speculation; similar to ‘the other car driver had a heart attack’ or ‘the other car driver swerved to avoid a deer/barn owl/cyclist’

Course, I may come out of this looking silly in a day or so.

i know it’s possibly not fashionable, but shouldn’t we wait a while before blaming either party?

He is old, but we don’t know anything about the other people in the accident; knowing the area, they could well be even older!

you can set up KeepPass to use a normal password to get in, or a single user, or a file

or a combination of all three

    petec

    i use Keepass at work
No password to get into it – it requires a file stored elsewhere on the network.

So passwords stored on one server, file on another (in my own personal cloud drive). If you don’t have access to both drives, you don’t get in.

So in a home situation, store the passwords in a file on the C drive, then the access file on a USB stick (or two!) that only you have access to.

Thought this was a good comment on the Guardian today; I know Merkel shouldn’t have to step up, but it would be good!

Ok, now is the time. Step up Mrs Merkel.
This is her time to rescue the EU and the UK and cement her reputation for posterity.
    What about:
We need you, the UK, in the EU. We want you to stay.
We can offer a 10 year window when labour movement to the UK will be restricted to those who have confirmed jobs and certain essential skills and roles.
We also suggest that to support this a qualifying period of 2 years residence is needed for qualification for any social security – both ways – UK citizens to EU and EU citizens to UK.

In exchange, we suggest you hold a fresh referendum on the basis of staying with the above deal or continuing to leave.

If acceptable, deal to be finalised as soon as possible, and by 29/3 and to be legally binding on any future governments for 10 years.

Why this deal? It covers the area that upset so many people – immigration and burden on infrastructure.

Benefits – should satisfy both leavers and remainers. Takes away the Scottish referendum threat, gives UK a fresh vote with meaningful choices (stay with better terms, leave on no deal basis), helps EU and especially Germany with its threat of a manufacturing recession.

And finally, would enable me to take pride in UK, where, currently, our MPs cause me massive embarrassment.

Come on – step up Mrs Merkel and put Mrs May out of her misery.

Your original post in it’s entirety:

Oh good try, but unfortunately that’s my second post rather than my first.

Go back just a little bit further (clue: it’s the one with the bloody big map) and you’ll find the real first one

I’ll even quote another part for you ‘What we need to do is get more jobs and careers up north…. It would reinvigorate those areas, and stop the brain drain to the south east.’

    petec

I thought your point was that there’s loads of space

my point was there’s loads of space outside the south east. My exact quote was “there are vast parts of the country with very low population density”

why have a massive battle to extend Heathrow

Why is HS2 such a ball ache

Cos they’re building in the built up area….

you could build it in an empty area, but then it’s not much use…

And people do care about empty land. They like to escape suburbia. If all is built on, there’s nowhere to go. But that’s missing the point. Liverpool was (is?) knocking down streets of houses which would cost millions each in London. All to do with supply and demand. Create the demand. And to do that you need jobs, and work.

And with space – I live very close to the Thames, in a supposed busy area. I can go for a run on a summers evening on the tow path, and see no-one in the hour I’m out.

anyway, cos I’m sad, and like data, I found this 3D population density map

We need to create more land out of sea Dutch stylee

We don’t need to create more land; there are vast parts of the country with very low population density

    Density

What we need to do is get more jobs and careers up north (which i know is a cliche). It would reinvigorate those areas, and stop the brain drain to the south east.

Inn at Home is great. There’s also the Grumpy Goat in Reading if you’re in the area. Or even just popping out to the West Berks Taproom. They sell all the WBB beers, and the Renegade ones. But also other brewers, and Tutts Clump cider etc

i’m normally an emotional wreck after Watership Down. Not so much this time. It was emotional, but i think there was an element of remembering the original and the emotions from that. Not to say this one was bad, but it just didn’t beat the original

Course you can’t beat swearing in a cartoon when you’re 5 or so.

buy 3kg of beef shin for about 18 quid. Usual stuff with onions, carrots etc. Cover it with stock or stout
cook it at 120c for 6 hours, then 200c for an hour (that last bit really breaks down the collagen)

you’ll have the thickest, warmest stew. Serve with mash. Everyone’s a winner

it is slow. But it is so worth it

EDIT; scrub all that. Just read the veggie bit. Um, Jacket potatoes and cheese?

had this the other day when loading a book on the boy’s kindle
the cable is the issue; not all cables are equal
use a cheap one and it won’t work (i was using one that came with a bike light)

Get a cable that’s used on a phone, and it should work

i use SPDs on my road bike, and always have.

Some people mock. I don’t care. They work well, and it’s what i’m used to.
